(Certainly a lucky neighborhood) It looks small from the street but once you walk in, it opens up to a sizable store. We were greeted by a friendly staff member, he took the time to describe their cheese selection and the other things going on in the shop. He then pivoted to giving us tons of help selecting the right cheese. We sampled a couple of things and then he dialed in three choices for us to buy. (With an assist from another customer that insisted that we would love the Delice de Bourgogne) Prices were reasonable enough for the quality. We added some gourmet crackers that were neutral enough to not overpower the cheese. The next day, we made the three cheeses the focus of our lunch. The Delice de Bourgogne was the star of the show, a creamy, earthy, and savory masterpiece. The two year aged Gouda and creamy blue cheese were delightful as well! Truly glad that we walked into The Cheese Traveler!

In fact, it was the very first stop my husband and I made because I couldn't wait to enjoy my favorite chocolates again. Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing. The first thing I noticed was the new logo and packaging. While I know businesses evolve, the new design loses the classic, elegant feel that made Krause's so special and instead looks much more generic. More importantly, the chocolates themselves are not the same. Many of the pieces are noticeably smaller than they used to be, and the chocolate tastes different. Several pieces even had bloom, which affected both their appearance and texture. I purchased a variety of chocolates, including individual pieces from the display case, chocolate bars, and peppermint patties, and every product seemed to reflect a decline in quality. To make matters worse, many of my longtime favorite pieces were no longer available. I've happily recommended Krause's for years because it consistently offered some of the best homemade chocolates in the Capital Region. This time, however, I left feeling disappointed and honestly saddened. I truly hope the owners will consider returning to the quality, recipes, and traditions that built Krause's outstanding reputation, because many longtime customers remember how exceptional their chocolates used to be.

The food is real and what they don't make on site, is imported from Poland or elsewhere in Europe. We had a couple of nice visits, ordering from the deli (and picking up some packaged snacks from the other side of the store) and eating outside. On the last visit, unfortunately, one table had been removed, leaving only one remaining (where an older woman had set up shop with no intention of leaving even though some local nurses were clearly waiting to sit and eat). Also, there used to be 8 large menu boards with deli offerings, but only one was remaining. The others are covered up because the food on those boards is no longer available! I wasn't sure if this was due to Covid, but when we asked, they said that they had to cut down on the options because the store couldn't get any help! I see they are currently trying to hire help. Also, it seems that the prepackaged items on the other side of the store are a little sparse as well (several of the items we bought previously were no longer available). This is probably due to COVID related supply chain problems. I mention this and am giving three stars with as much love and hope as possible - I sincerely wish that they get the help they need and get back to full strength as soon as possible!
