Fresh focaccia with life-changing egg salad.
    Jeff O.

There's a lot to say about this gourmet grocer, including that it is eye-poppingly pricey even by Hudson standards and that it sells a wide array of intriguing condiments and candies that are genuine curiosities even in our globalized modern age. But the very first thing that springs to mind when I think of Talbott & Arding -- the thing that fills me with a sense of longing, the thing so bewitching that I fret about it being out of stock as I walk through the door -- is the egg salad. Yes, the egg salad here is so extraordinary that I sound like some mad romantic consumed by passion and lust when I talk about it. This is all the more incredible because I generally do not even like egg salad! Normally, when I encounter egg salad, I see large chunks of rubbery egg whites swaddled in mayonnaise and perhaps studded with chopped celery and flecked with parsley. Here, however, we have something different. The eggs have been minced and mashed to the consistency of guacamole, resulting in less of an egg salad and more of an egg dip. The color is almost uniformly yellow, interrupted here and there by bits of egg white and -- crucially -- by pieces of glorious golden yolk. Aside from the eggs, the only ingredients are mayo, salt and pepper, so the result is a genuine gestalt that exemplifies the power of simplicity. It's also a testament to the power of quality ingredients, because I have to think that the eggs come from chickens that are living a positively pampered existence. And I also wonder if the store, which makes its own meringues, has a surplus of yolks that help to make this the ultimate egg salad. You can enjoy this egg salad on its own by the spoonful, but it's even better paired with their freshly baked focaccia. As I mentioned, there's a lot more to say about this store, but I'll leave it there: come for the egg salad, stay to discover many more excellent eats.

It was pretty empty when we came in on a weekday morning. But the woman at the cookies counter was super helpful and the chocolate whale cookie and chocolate walnut cookies, which are her favorites, were delicious! The focaccia pizza was OK. We were told it had meat in it, but it didn't. But it was tasty and made with fresh ingredients.

If you are in Hudson and looking for great options for picnic food to take up to Olana, this is the stop! A wonderful assortment of cheeses and carefully prepared foods to suit many tastes. We ordered a pizza slice, several cheeses, and a lemon pound cake which were all superb. The space is very open and didn't feel crowded even near lunch time. There are also a variety of interesting gourmet foods and gifts to take home. This would be a definite stop on my list again next time I'm in the area.

Overall, very happy with everything we've had here! Their bread is excellent and I highly recommend it. I would also like to use this moment to BEG them to bring the cheese monger focaccia back, as that is #1 for me. Definitely also try the fruit and nut bread and/or their other loaf cakes- so delish! The grain bowl is very healthy and the components are always fresh. I think they typically could use a little sauce or dressing - maybe they could include a little of the miso dressing on the side (or whichever dressing complemented the flavors that day)!

I ordered a small mac & cheese and meatballs in tomato sauce and was surprised to receive the order cold. Unfortunately I failed to realize that this is a prepared foods place. Overall, the meatballs were flavorful and the Mac & cheese was great, just a tad too creamy for me personally. We microwaved the Mac for 2 minutes and the meatballs for approximately 3 minutes (didn't have access to an oven at our hotel).

Overpriced. Food, meh. Rude service. Waited a long time. Not organized. Heating prepared food to barely tepid.

Fly to Italy and you probably won't find better Parma ham. To Britain? You probably won't find a better Stilton cheese

My fiancée picked up a focaccia pizza with salami, mozzarella, and basil. I liked the soft airy crusted.

Both Brent and former owner, Ben Turley, may be familiar faces as they have appeared on several YouTube "Eater" videos. They both seem like nice, funny people. I was ready to really like this place because of the "familiarity" provided by social media exposure. Frankly, I wasn't wowed by what I bought. No complaints at all with the butcher, who was very accommodating. When I asked for pork belly, he asked if I wanted skin on or off. He also asked for the amount I wanted. 1 lb. and it was perfectly trimmed of skin, leaving unctuous layers of fat and meat. Cool. All good. House made hamburgers. This is where it went a little awry for me. Usually, it's an 80/20 mix of lean meat to fat. This was on the fattier side, more like 60/40. I wish I took a picture of it. I cooked the burger in an 8" skillet. By the time I thought the inside was cooked through (medium), the burger was literally swimming in its own fat. I ate it, after draining it on paper towels, but it wasn't what I expected. Is there a learning curve when you prepare organic meats as opposed to mass market stuff? Some items may be leaner and require less time to cook while other, fattier items, may not? Could the butcher provide a bit of info to inform the customers of what to expect? I admit I'm a bit ignorant on how to properly prepare these items. I'm willing to learn and I'll try again.
