Very friendly owners. Food is top notch. Had a sandwich and bought chocolate for the wife. Definitely going back when in town.

My trip to Hudson started strong with Kitty's! Located right outside the train station, Kitty's…read moreoffers quick bites and pastries. I tried three items: the blueberry corn cookie, maple cruller, and the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. All were fantastic. The corn cookie was a novelty. It was crumbly and slightly gritty, as corn pastries tend to be. It wasn't too sweet. Although I'm glad I tried it, the cookie pales in comparison to the cruller, which was deliciously sweet, with crisp edges and a soft, custardy interior. The sandwich was great, as well. The eggs were fluffy, the bun soft, the bacon thick and crisp. It was good! If you're visiting Hudson, make this your first stop!

Juicy deliciously spiced chicken is here!!…read more Very focused menu here and I love that.. means what they offer is what they do really well. Rotisserie chicken is their thing. You can get the whole chicken, half or quarter. For me, quarter was more than enough. If you get a quarter chicken, you get two sides. If you get half a chicken, then you get three sides. I feel like it should be the opposite to offset the amount of food. But honestly it was perfect, still a big portion. For sides, they offer crispy fingerling potatoes, cole slaw, market salad and butter rice. Their Cole slaw is amazing with that poppyseed dressing. And salad had a variety of greens and crunchy toppings with a light dressing. Also! The plate comes with two sauces - spicy chili oil (mild) and yogurt dip. It was all SO FREAKING GOOD. I'm a dipper so bring on the sauce! The drink offering is also abundant. Lots of craft sodas, botanical drinks, coffees and a full bar in the back. Ghia hit the spot for me. It's not cheap but for this quality of food it's more than worth it. For the vibe..it's a confused vibe. You order at the counter and sit down with a number to wait for your food. The decor is eclectic which I thought was fun. But the music.. it went from country to weird edm dance music. I think Kittys can gain a lot from a curated playlist. Sitting there I felt curious and excited to be immersed more but it wasn't giving.

The Meat Hook - Hudson is a new butcher shop in the area. The owner, Brent Young, has another Meat…read moreHook in Brooklyn. Both Brent and former owner, Ben Turley, may be familiar faces as they have appeared on several YouTube "Eater" videos. They both seem like nice, funny people. I was ready to really like this place because of the "familiarity" provided by social media exposure. Frankly, I wasn't wowed by what I bought. No complaints at all with the butcher, who was very accommodating. When I asked for pork belly, he asked if I wanted skin on or off. He also asked for the amount I wanted. 1 lb. and it was perfectly trimmed of skin, leaving unctuous layers of fat and meat. Cool. All good. House made hamburgers. This is where it went a little awry for me. Usually, it's an 80/20 mix of lean meat to fat. This was on the fattier side, more like 60/40. I wish I took a picture of it. I cooked the burger in an 8" skillet. By the time I thought the inside was cooked through (medium), the burger was literally swimming in its own fat. I ate it, after draining it on paper towels, but it wasn't what I expected. Is there a learning curve when you prepare organic meats as opposed to mass market stuff? Some items may be leaner and require less time to cook while other, fattier items, may not? Could the butcher provide a bit of info to inform the customers of what to expect? I admit I'm a bit ignorant on how to properly prepare these items. I'm willing to learn and I'll try again.

There is really not anything negative I can say about this place. It is always spotless inside,…read moreoutside, and even behind the scenes, like in their meat cutting area (I looked in there...seriously). This is the supermarket chain in Upstate NY that neighbor Rachel Ray goes to solelyfor her custom-cut meats, but you need not be a celebrity to get the same treatment here at Price Chopper: They will cut your meats any way you want them - as well as season them (free of charge) from a variety of rubs to choose from. Even if you go with the pre-cut choices already in their butcher case, the variety is vast and the prices can't be beat. The same can be said for their full-service fresh fish station and deli department. And their produce section (with lots of organic) is equally impressive. The overall prices here are very reasonable, with weekly specials and coupon savings that make it even better. There was some local chatter a couple of years back, when a Wal-Mart opened directly across the street from this Price Chopper location, that customers might go shopping there instead for their groceries, but this store has not experienced a dip in sales whatsoever, attesting to the quality and personalized service available here that customers favor. They are also open 24hrs, which may not impress you if you're a NYC dweller like me, but in this town, they roll the sidewalks in at 5 pm (the only thing opened on Sundays up there is the church...oh, and that dreadful Walmart...bleh) so an all-night grocery store is practically a mirage. Price Chopper is also very community-minded and philanthropic, always the first to respond to the charitable needs of the town and county. They often sponsor community health fairs, school-related activities for children, sweepstakes, contests, and giveaways. They once held a very well publicized hotdog-eating contest that attracted large eaters from across the state, including The Hub, who eagerly signed up. I am...ahem...proud to say that, after following my husband in a groupie-like manner all summer long - complete with family and friends in tow - I watched him win every contest all the way up to the finals. So I am now officially the wife of the hotdog-eating champion of the Hudson Valley, thanks to Price Chopper. At least there were no beans involved. So shop at Price Chopper next time you're in Catskill. And go easy on the hotdogs.
