Somehow, they pull off the menu for every eating lifestyle without feeling cramp. It works for everybody. They have your breakfast basics covered: eggs, rolls, wraps, toast or whatever carb you're in the mood for. If you have a sweet tooth, they have pastries, if you're on a 'healthy' kick, they have bowls. I had The Lox Works and it actually lived up to the name. Plenty of salmon, red onions, a sliver of creamy cream cheese how I like it (I skipped the capers, personal choice). The bagel itself was fresh and had that perfect crisp on the outside and a chewy inside. Except, it's little on the doughy side, and the tomato slices were also thick- but still, the sandwich was tasty. The jalapeño and cheese pretzel was great, the cardamom bun was delicious, the chocolate croissant was excellent, and the egg and cheese on a biscuit was probably my favorite thing I ate all weekend. I also picked up the blueberry and yuzu pastry, which I haven't tried yet, but at this point I have complete faith. I also just love the vibe in here. It feels warm and welcoming and like everyone is meant to be there. There are a bunch of fun things to look at while you're waiting in line, there's a great little outdoor area to sit and eat, and the whole place just feels GOOD. I was in London the prior week marveling at how good the bakeries were per their differential on butter and flour, but this place wiped that "London does it better" feeling right from my brain. No other photos taken aside from the food we ordered. It's a mini grocery store where you can pick seasonings, spices, deli items like "Gypsy bacon" which we will definitely pick up later this week. Their menu is extensive and impressive; they have some all-star dishes on their permanent menu as well as a rotating daily menu with a legendary lineup of seasonal items. I really appreciate that they have dishes that are hard to come by such as lentil loaf and lasagna, and these never disappoint. The lentil loaf is unique; it is a little brick of lentils (not your traditional sliceable mush of breadcrumbs and minced veggies). It's very well seasoned and the tomato sauce on top is not overly sweet. The mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy and (very) garlicky greens make it a great meal. The lasagna is one of my favorite dishes. It's pasta-free and just made from layers of sliced zucchini and other veggies sandwiched with their delicious crumbly housemade cashew cheese. The herby tomato sauce is super flavorful. The side salad and garlic bread that accompany it are great also; an ultra comforting meal. We enjoyed the macro meal, although honestly not as much as the other dishes. The pan-seared tofu was delicious, but the arame seaweed salad was super seaweedy and salty - a bit much for me. I'm also not sure why they didn't serve it in a bowl, which would have made the rice etc. easier to eat. It seemed to be missing something - perhaps avocado, or a hunk of sweet potato. A few items at the Garden Cafe are a little perplexing, compared to how perfect most of their food is. The tempeh is just ok. It's heavily marinated in a sweet and salty sauce and kind of strange. Also disappointing that it's just a big brand tempeh rather than one of the local tempeh brands available in the area. The housemade focaccia is also bizarre. The texture made me think it was gluten-free (but it's not). Is it whole wheat?? If that's the case, awesome, but they should mention that on the menu, so you aren't taken aback when you don't get pillowy airy bread and instead get something flat and gray that could be mistaken for a biscotti. We LOVE the Garden Cafe and wish more places like this existed serving organic classic meals. We wish they would open a location in New York City, but until then, we will be making the drive!

We brought it home and thought, 'we have found a great bread source'. A few weeks later I went back and bought the same thing, in addition to some brioche buns and everything bagels. Unfortunately, they put the bagels in with the danish - really? When I got the items home, the danish was dry and probably a day+ old, the bagels were sub par. The worst was the loaf of sourdough turned fuzzy in a few days, and we had it in the refrigerator. We will continue our search.
