    Egg salad sandwich
    Hwal L.

We were driving past Cairo recently when we stopped here for takeaway lunch. There were plenty of things to like about their egg salad sandwich and the sour dough almond croissant was effortless, so it would've been an easy 5-star experience except that the sticky bun was so incredibly sticky that I threw it in the bin after precisely 1.5 bites. I liked the airy vibe and the relatively sparse space added to it, since all the food items and display cases were on one side of the shop only. Most, if not all, of their sandwiches appeared to be available with as both whole and 1/2, so we grabbed the egg salad sandwich and we'd both get this again without hesitation because the porous, chewy arborio bread held the chunky egg salad together. On second thought, we both wish the "dried tomato" was quite a bit more tender and chewable because it was so hard that I initially thought my tooth filing popped and I chewed on it. Another wish - none of the baked goods were labeled and I'm not known to ever buy sticky buns, so it's possible that I wouldn't have bought it if I'd known, since I thought it was a cinnamon bun. All in all a great lunch stop, and I hope they continue to improve and stay open for many more years.

Sorry for the bite but you had to see the HALF INCH THICK sausage patty!

PLEASE DON'T GET THE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES so I can eat them all myself kthxbye. I've now also had the bacon Bodega sandwich and I'm a bacon girlie so this is the preferred.

Small place but cute. Coffee options are limited but everything we ordered tasted great and they were very welcoming.

This past weekend was my first visit here strictly for dinner (of course I had a few adult cocktails as well). With our 8 year old son in tow, we stopped in on a Thursday night around 6pm. There is a family friendly dining area as you come in the door and we were greeted and seated right away. Waitress grabbed our drink order as our son was given crayons and a kids menu. A few other families were there with their kids and numerous crayon drawings adorning the walls reassured us that this was a family restaurant. Nice menu with good variety of pub grub. It was wing night so "When in Rome". There was an all you can eat offering but neither of us had that kind of appetite so we opted for an order of boneless wings each. I got the Nashville hot and she got the Hot Buffalo. The portions were large and the sauces were great. The Nashville is a bit on the tamer side of hot and the hot buffalo was both hot and tasty. Definitely get the wings. We also got an order of the Rooster Balls. For the record, these are not actually the balls of a rooster. Chunks of white chicken wrapped in bacon and cheese and fried served with a remoulade side sauce. I'm drooling as I type that. Our son got the adult version of the chicken tenders with fries on the side. He seemed to enjoy the tenders but the fries were the star of the night. We basically cleaned his plate for him as they were cut and cooked perfectly. To summarize, great for drinks and great for a family night out. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and delicious grub. Plenty of parking, not far off the highway. And as my son would say "free wifi!". We will be back often.

Damon Baehrel, which is named after the chef himself, is probably considered the most exclusive restaurant in the world. It is literally a one-man show, as Chef Baehrel is the one who cooks, serves, and hosts a 5-6+ hour-dining experience for his guests at his beautiful home on his 12-acre property in upstate NY. As most know, this restaurant is booked solid until the year 2026, and they have not been taking any reservations/adding parties onto their waiting list since last year/'14 (this is for an indefinite period of time) - you bet your tootin' bootin' that I felt so victorious for bypassing others on the list by 11+ years!!! (Just note that it really doesn't matter 'who' you are, 'who' you know, and/or if you come equipped with a list of multiple referrals.) Known for his 'Native Harvest Cuisine,' every single item on his menu (besides the seafood that is brought fresh from Nova Scotia from his private supplier) is made/created/raised on the premise - when I mean every item, I mean EVERY item, from the flours, pressed oils, vinegars, breads, to the curing his own meats and aging his own cheeses! This restaurant is the epitome and the prime definition of what 'farm-to-table' should really be! We were welcomed warmly from Chef Baehrel, and I was super excited that we were his only guests for the evening - YES, IT WAS JUST THE 3 OF US, THE HUBS, ME, AND THE CHEF!!! (I think I literally sobbed right on the spot). Our super private dining experience was about 5.5+ hours, but actually flew right on by and was like a total dream - we were given a multi-course menu (about 24-26+ items, including some handful of extras since the Chef was just super excited in having us(!!!)), that featured seasonal, organic plants/fruits/vegetables/trees from his property, in addition to a lovely educational overview of each of the ingredients used for the dish. I just couldn't believe at some of the ingredients that he had used, and how each of them had a distinct flavor (and were all actually edible/okay for human consumption!) - it was amazing to listen to the experimentation, the time spent, the punctuality of harvesting such items throughout the year, and the multiple aging/preserving/curing process that he does. I had a lovely wine pairing with the multi-course dinner (delicious champagne, reds, whites, and dessert wines), while the hubs had homemade juice pairings made from the luscious fruits/tree saps (super delicious and refreshing!). The love, the passion, and the excitement from the chef was just purely an eye-opener, and this literally was the BEST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! BELIEVE THE HYPE (of the very few limited ones there are) - Chef Baehrel will change your life and exceed any and all expectations that you may/will have!!! You have to go there to experience it personally, as there are no words to describe such a unique experience - the overwhelming appreciation that you obtain in tasting the raw essence of the ingredients that are found around you was truly truly truly remarkable - Chef Baehrel is a GENIUS! Just note that there is no photography/video/recording equipment/note-taking allowed inside the restaurant, so PLEASE be respectful to the Chef (and, shame on those 'bloggers' who disregard/circumvent around this request/policy!). I cannot wait to go back! :D +BEST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER!!! +Chef Damon Baehrel :D +Native Harvest Cuisine :D +5.5+ dining experience :D +no photography/video/recording equipment allowed inside the restaurant - please be respectful!

I put in my…read morereservation request in August 2012 and fully expected a 5-year minimum wait but to my delight I was able to snag a "special seating" on a Sunday at 4pm. It helps to be flexible with your dates and within driving distance. 20 courses (!), 4.5 hours. 5 hour round trip drive. 1 car rental. Completely worth it. Damon Baehrel is the ultimate host, completely charming and engaging. My wife and I were the only guests and it was awesome! Not awkward at all. What I loved about the meal, besides his "Native Harvest" dishes, was that by the end of it you can start to understand his botany heavy food lexicon, as certain themes started to emerge. Stevia and clover as thickening agents, all sap everything, powders galore, nut flours, fermentation trickery, homemade cheese. Homemade everything! (except some salt and the seafood/wine). Hearing his insanely detailed and clever course preparations makes you feel guilty about eating all of these small bites in less than 30 seconds. Damon paces the meal perfectly, always happy to chat and answer your questions at length. He takes great satisfaction in his cooking and sharing his techniques. This meal is about learning the process as much as it is about eating, and both are better for it. There were some items that sounded cooler than they tasted, but overall each dish was solid. The highlights for me were the teal duck and the duck egg "creme brulee". I guess I like duck. If you are fortunate enough to get a reservation here come with an open mind and don't expect a rich fancy-pants food experience or you will be disappointed. PS - Leaving a one-star review for a restaurant you have never eaten at just because you can't get a reservation is pathetic.

Finally got seated and it took the waitress 15 min to come over and take our order. We never saw her again until an hour+ later when our food finally came out. She never even bothered to bring water to our table?! FYI: we ended up eating past 3pm. Ok, maybe they're understaffed and they're super busy? There were a total of 6 tables seated with people and 2 waitresses. Maybe that's a lot in upstate NY standard? The food was good, I'll give the cook that. But maybe the kitchen needs help so it doesn't take over an hour to bring out some eggs or avocado toast? Honestly, the food was a solid 4 star but the horrendous service was a negative so rounding this to a 2 star.

Gracie's is an elevated diner experience...all the breakfast and brunch things you could want, but up a couple levels from a classic greasy spoon diner. Not dissing the greasy spoon diner experience...love that...but this is based in that historical experience, with an overall nicer experience in terms of food and atmosphere. Also, before we get into the specifics, here are 2 words which would bring me in from just about anywhere: Donut menu. Yes, they make their own donuts here, and that's enough reason to stop in, take out, or worship at the front door. We got our donuts to go after the meal...The coffee was GREAT. Bold as I needed it to be, and the perfect foundation for the rest of the meal. My next go-to if they have it brunch experience is biscuits. They have them...you can get a biscuit on its own or, heck, go for a mini biscuit basket! I live for a biscuit-forward establishment. The Full Breakfast (submitting biscuit or potatoes for the meat) would have been my choice, but I decided to roll my own and ended up with a biscuit, fruit cup, and side of Hash Browns. The biscuit was good, large, and perfect with butter and honey. They make the hash browns to order - large hash brown patties - and with 2 different orders of them at the table, one was overcooked, too brown, and not impressive...but the other was perfect and delicious...bordering on potato pancake territory in presentation and flavor. Our server was fantastic...we had a large party encompassing 3 different tables in the middle of a Sunday morning (On Easter no less), which is, of course, the busiest time of the week.
