How have I slept on this place all of these years? I wanted to hate it, but I loved it as soon as I walked in the door. The person who stocks those shelves is very smart - so much I wanted to bring home with me, including matzoh ball soup!!! We ordered two sandwiches - jambon et beurre with cornichons and a chicken parm. We were blown away by both. Flavorful, high quality ingredients on the perfect baguette. Now I want to try ALL the sandwiches. Seriously, you can make a meal here very easily on your way into town. We also bought two packages of mushroom ravioli for another dinner. At Cheese L., you pick the cheese you want and you buy it--what's complicated about that? However, if you're cheese lover, standing in front of a counter filled to the brim with an assortment of cheeses is both a blessing and a curse. Soft or hard; milky or funky; aged or mild- there are options here. Oh, and there's no American cheese here! (Not that I saw any). This place really comes into its own as THE spot to offer a nice international cheese selection. The staff is super knowledgeable and were ready to guide me through their extensive offering. While you're shopping, you could be jamming to Barry White or Donna Summer playing from the music playlist in the background. I purchased a small piece of a Portuguese Zimbro to try at home and it was incredibly silky and price was fair at about $8+.These folks obviously explore cheeses from many different regions and beyond making it a paradise for the adventurous. This place is an amazing little upscale gastronomic slice of Paris on Rte 28 between Kingston and Woodstock. It's packed with high quality foods from a European viewpoint. I stop in from time to time for imported organic olive oil (many choices), and it's always interesting to see what they have ready to eat. There's a large variety to select from. They make sandwiches to order, plenty of salads, baked goods, pastas, two cheese sections full of French and European selections that would be difficult to find elsewhere, baguettes as fresh and delicious as one would buy in a Paris bakery, and all kinds of munchies, both sweet and savory. I'm always fascinated by the volume and variety of offerings they manage to display and create. Everywhere I turn in this shop, there are more entertaining and intriguing items to explore. The fare has been consistently delicious so I feel confident to be adventurous and try items that are not familiar to me. I haven't been disappointed yet! We are indeed fortunate to have Cheese Louise in the neighborhood. I once briefly spoke to the owner, a polite gentleman who cares a great deal about his employees and customers. I congratulate the management and staff. They are always cheerful and welcoming whenever I have stopped by. I just visited their new location in Rhinebeck. I think they will do well. The store has everything you would need for a high end chacuterie board. Cheese, meat, spreads, pate, crackers, etc. This is an upscale store, so prices are more than the local grocery. We tried proscuitto, soppressata, 2 cheeses, and duck pate. I can't believe I forgot to write a review for this amazing shop! We stopped here after a walk at the Ashokan Reservoir a couple of weeks ago - and were amazed at everything they had. Finally stopped and entered cheese louise after driving by for the last decade. Hubby and I gathered a bunch of delicious gourmet items for a picnic. We chose a gruyere cheese, organic salami, soft spreadable herb goat cheese, fig spread, and a piece of salted dark chocolate. Everything was fresh and scrumptious. A tasting or sampling of the many cheeses would have been a bonus. There were some amazing looking premade wedge sandwiches as well. No place is more deserving of a five star rating! I just left a minute ago and I cannot wait for an excuse to go back! As I browsed(i was brought in by my love of the name), there were so many great things! All different types of olive oils, vinegars, flavored sodas. Most importantly, there was tons of cheese! I picked up a blue cheese, a goat cheese, and a fontina! I also tried all the cheese samples of course! Throughout my shopping, I was assisted by both a man and a woman, who were both very engaging and friendly. They were asking me questions about cheeses I liked so they could suggest others. I also bought two loaves of bread which are NYC quality without the price tag! All in all, this is the best little market I've ever stopped at. These guys get it DONE! A real jewel of a store staffed by friendly people who know volumes about cheese and pairing all kinds of food with all kinds of wine. Keep your eyes open for it. Drive too fast and you'll miss it. (Drive too fast and you'll get a ticket. Keep it under 45 MPH. Take your time.) We had three different kinds of cheeses with a cracker they suggested when we got to our lodge, as well as a chicken breast cutlet. The first time I went to Cheese Louise, I nearly fainted and then proceeded to fight....so, so hard...not to empty my bank account there. Not because they're overpriced or anything. But due to the sheer quality of the incredibly delectable food they have hiding all over that wonderful little shop. It's a mistake to look at the name and think of this as a "cheese shop". They are so much more. In fact, they are, what I consider to be a full fledged gourmet shop. It's also the first place I've ever encountered Iberico Ham. I'd known about it for years, but tasting it was an experience I'll not soon forget. Yes, they do have a huge selection of wonderful cheeses, both local and otherwise. They also carry a wide range of meats, sausages, pates, etc. And olives, pastas, various prepared foods. You can imagine that this is a very dangerous place for me... I'm tempted to rush out in today's snow storm to grab a bit of this and that for a tasty snack later tonight while we're watching TV. :) read more

A really wonderful gourmet market that carries products that I haven't found in even the best of the larger grocery chains in the area (e.g. Adams Fairacre, which in and of itself is amazing). For example, today I found cheeses here that I have thus-far only ever found in NYC (Secret de Compostelle, Ascutney Mountain), as well as an amazing smoked trout salad, and what was probably the best key lime pie that I have ever had. Nice selection of local cheese and good bread. Their zucchini fritter is yummy and I would definitely get it again. The first time I tried their chicken cutlet, I was very pleased. One of my local favorites! Try the buratta with local honey drizzled and chilli flakes, one of my particular favourites. I can't leave this store without spending a small fortune, so many delicious cheeses and local fayre. The owners of the store and employees are just great, a lot of fun and extremely passionate and knowledgeable about their cheeses and food. Plus there's a really good wine store next door.. perfect!
