Due to his diagnosis, learning to read, understanding the alphabet, phonics have all been an uphill battle for him. Throw in covid and unfortunately he got further behind. So, in steps Sylvan. (He had a private tutor, who was a substitute teacher), who tutored him once and then quit because she didn't feel she was a good fit. I met with Ms. Gabrielle, the Center Director who was so welcoming and really understood a lot of my concerns. She addressed one of my concerns regarding my son needing accommodations to see and hear letters and sounds and she was able to make this accommodation for him and if not, it was a deal breaker for us. Second, Our private speech therapist had a 40 minute conversation with Ms. Gabrielle about how my son learns, where he's at with his language and what not to say because he honestly doesn't understand what that means. She has proven herself to be so instrumental in my sons ability to learn. She has also communicated this to my sons teachers. In about 4 months, my son has almost closed a years worth of learning. His teachers, Ms. Jen, Ms. Heather, Ms. Mimi And Ms. Rachel are treasures!! They really know how to teach and having them at sylvan is an asset and I'm hoping the directors notice this. These teachers truly care and I can see my sons self esteem and confidence surge! Thank You So Much Ms. Gabrielle and to my sons teachers!

They simply don't care.

All Nurses in Texas will need to be electronically fingerprinted by 2018. Sylvan Learning Center was the only local spot other then downtown Dallas. Payment is by credit card only. No cash or checks. There was recently a big big cricket invasion that no one did anything about. If you don't pay extra(for camps/classes/etc.), they can only really crowd into a single gym(and not even all the time due to basketball lessons) or do math/chinese packets. Additionally, I recall there being an issue with water splashing/wet floors in the bathrooms. Huayi simply closed the bathrooms (boys) and put cameras in as well. Hua Yi was also sold recently to Mrs. Sun. I remember her as a nice Chinese teacher, they have also changed their logo to a friendlier, more modern one. I hope this reflects potential changes in their building/school in future as well.

As someone who has spent time here, I can see both the good and the bad. On the positive side, while some of the kids might not be the easiest to get along with (to put it mildly), the teachers here deserve recognition. Special shoutout to Mrs. Xie and Mr. Jefferson--they're truly amazing! Many students complain about how "mean" the teachers are, but honestly, they don't realize how challenging it must be to work a demanding 9-to-5 job, managing a classroom full of unruly kids every single day. It's no easy task, and I think the teachers deserve a lot more credit for their dedication and effort. That said, there's room for improvement. Take the restrooms, for example--they're far from sanitary. They're crawling with cockroaches, and I'm pretty sure they don't meet the state's health standards. While there have been some small improvements, they're still a long way from acceptable. Then there are the classrooms. They're overcrowded, which makes it nearly impossible for teachers to give students the attention they need. The rooms themselves aren't much better--they don't even have windows, and the walls and desks are littered with graffiti and profanity (I won't repeat any of it because, well, let's keep things appropriate). On top of that, the furniture hasn't been replaced in 20 years. It's outdated and falling apart--it's long overdue for an upgrade, Mrs. Yi. (P.S they give us activities like basketball ping pong and a whole room dedicated to playing which keeps us sane and from not going crazy) Despite all this, the school is still standing and trying its best after all these years. But with just a bit of effort and investment, it could go from "just getting by" to a place everyone could truly take pride in.

I texted the owner to let him know I need to be able to be able to schedule over the phone or else I need a refund because it is inconvenient and unreasonable to have to drive over just to schedule appointments. I thought our interactions via in person or on the phone were good and pleasant until I received a response that shows what an unhinged, twisted liar he is. He claimed that I made rules that he can't follow and that I made threats. Which was completely ridiculous and untrue outright lies to justify his ugly response. He blocked me immediately after his text so that he would not get my response. Check our texts in the picture and decide whether this is someone you want to do business with.

He gave the students, as well as my son what they needed to know to pass the written test. They had many flexible hours, days during the week, as well as weekends to meet the demands of a challenging parental schedule. With two kids in multiple sports, the scheduling of events can be challenging. He was very accommodating. He allowed you to contact him during office hours via text, as well as stopping by. We were able to schedule practice driving, weeks in advance with availability of his staff as well as our availability, to give my son the best opportunity to pass the test. When we could not make an appointment, there was not a big deal. As long as we let him know in enough time, we would be able to reschedule without a loss of a slot or the financial investment. There were many hands working to make this business and facility successful from class teaching to Practice driving, as well as road tests. Even though we opted not to take the road test at the facility, due to cost, my son was well prepared for the exam. He passed the first time! I have a daughter coming of age and without a doubt she will be attending this school for driving.
