LIFT is an amazing nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the literacy abilities of its…read morestudents by teaching them skills to pass their GED exams, thereby attaining better jobs to support themselves and their families. For the past two years, I've been proud to volunteer as an adult basic literacy instructor. The class is centered around teaching adults basic phonics so they can progress to a level of reading and spelling multi-syllable words. However, LIFT also offers courses at other levels, including pre-GED, ESL (English as a Second Language), and family classes in partnership with DISD. Almost all classes are offered at the Main Campus at the Opportunity Center in south Dallas, but there are several ESL classes all across the Dallas metroplex. LIFT has an amazing mission, and they are more than willing to equip those who want to volunteer with the appropriate training. When I see my students excel or grasp a new concept, I can't help but feel that LIFT has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life thus far. LanGo is in old Koreatown off of Emerald Street. They have a variety of languages they offer for…read moreyou to learn. They offer group classes and private lessons for adults and kids. My husband said we should learn a new language this Summer, so the consensus was Korean. I tried for Years to learn on my own, but I didn't get far. With in person classes, it sticks. Class is 2 hours. Private lessons are an hour (or maybe longer). Classes can be recorded if you can't make a class. You have homework/assignments on Google Classroom that you have to turn in. Lisa is the 선생님 (teacher) for Korean classes. She's great and explains things easily and thoroughly. She responds quickly to emails. Wish we would've found lanGo sooner! Definitely recommend if you want to learn a new language.

She is very patient and kind with the kids and she has been very flexible to find time to make sure they are getting that consistency of practice it takes to maintain language skills. Working with Jenna has significantly improved my son's proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Mandarin. Also, from a parental standpoint, she is flexible and easy to work with.
