My daughter suffered emotional abuse from her teachers, coming home frequently scared to go to school because her teachers yell, hold her wrists in a forceful manner when she makes mistakes. Because they are not certified or given adequate training (only every three months according to director with non accredited trainers) "teachers" are not skilled or knowledgeable in teaching practices that are developmentally appropriate and in alignment with Texas standards. They are unaware on how to utilize redirection, positive reinforcement and engagement tools and resources that support the whole child. As a certified experienced educator and multilingual program director myself I am distraught I let my child go to this daycare for over a year and advise other to stay away from an institution that does not have the abilities to teach young children. There are other multicultural and multilingual accredited schools in the area if looking for that type of care. Lastly, The entire Spanish schoolhouse board of directors does not have a single verified educator at the table speaking for quality education and what that actually means- their CEO is a graphic designer and many on the board are business and operations minded sources of knowledge. BeepBoop is a safe place to learn to talk with native Spanish speakers, learn more about the language, and get support from peers and your teacher as you improve. I've learned relevant Spanish (not random words I'll rarely use or only formal responses). It helps me think on my feet and really use the language every day. It has given also given me more confidence when speaking Spanish. I highly recommend it. I signed up for Pro during a sale, which helped.

We love the teachers/Ms. Cat and are so thankful they focus on raising the whole child. The community of parents we have met are grounded, smart and caring...and many own businesses locally in the community. Another perk is how much outdoor time the kids get, they have a garden and all sorts of wonderful activities outside. We also have options of music, art, soccer, Spanish etc. We are so incredibly thankful to have a strong Montessori option in our neighborhood.

I largely attribute my academic efforts to my 13 years of Kumon and I hope my experience can shed light and understanding on the inner-workings and efficacy of the Kumon program. The brain is like any other muscle in the human body. It takes time, commitment, and discipline to develop skill and competency. Why do athletes insist on repetitive work-out routines and practice before competition? Why subject oneself to rigorous and basic training? Any good athlete understands repetition and practice lead to mastery of core skill-sets and are key to successful performance. The Kumon program carries out this same principle with rewarding results through the wonderful guidance of Mrs. Bernadette Lin, who serves as the director of the program. For over 13 years, Mrs. Lin was my academic coach. When I wrestled with quadratic equations and variables, she gave me helpful advice and knew when to spend extra time repeating concepts until I mastered the material. By guiding me through worksheets, Mrs. Lin helped me gain confidence in mathematics and reading comprehension over my peers at school. Admittedly, there were times when the 9 year-old me and 15 year-old me would struggle through Kumon worksheets. During these moments, I learned important life skills of perseverance and discipline through Mrs. Lin's encouragement as I continued forwards. It is easy to be frightened and overwhelmed by hard work. However, the Kumon program taught me to believe in my own ability to improve by breaking down academic learning into manageable chunks of practice. Not only has Kumon helped me master basic math and reading skills that continue to benefit me even now, but I gained life-long skills in discipline and perseverance. Looking back on my experience as a twenty-something year-old, I cannot thank my parents and Mrs. Lin enough for their guidance through the Kumon program.
