Great school. Great teachers & staff, great support for children with learning differences that are super extreme.

Our child had been to two other learning disability schools before Dallas Academy. He was smarter than one school but not academically able to keep up with the other. I liked that the administration took a strong stand against bullying and even had Wednesday meetings for all students. The teachers were invested and helped our son learn the material all the way from 7 th to 12th and until graduation. Our son was on the football team for three years. His experience of regularly working out meant more focus, and socially the team building was really good! My parting thought is to ask a lot of questions on interview, and see if the school is a good match with your child as learning disabilities kids have varieties of strengths and weaknesses. read more

My child was bullied out of this school. The administration was no help. The school counselor told us that we had to have patience for my child's bullies, because they had never encountered someone different from themselves before. The other students are entirely too comfortable making racial and homophobic slurs that are at best ignore by the faculty and at worst endorsed by the faculty. If you're not white, Christian, cisgendered/straight, and wealthy, look elsewhere for education because you won't be accepted here. read more

This school broke our hearts. The description of what they do for LD students is not true. Half way through our first year we asked for a meeting with the head of school. We asked about learning interventions and examples of hands on teaching that my child was being offered. She had to read from a piece of paper. She did not know. Most of what she said was wrong. This is not a school for LD students. The teachers are not qualified and have no idea how to teach LD students. There is no curriculum, so you have unqualified teachers making it up. They strung us along and at the end totally betrayed us. They destroyed my child. Also, I know for a fact that there are several reviews written by teachers. read more

With caring teachers, small class sizes, and accommodations to our child's specific needs, it has definitely been life changing for our daughter. The best part is that we've seen her self confidence grow. She feels successful and an equal to her peers. Offering athletics is an added bonus! read more

We love DA! It has been a wonderful fit for our son and we are so grateful to have him there. We love: the teachers, administration, coaches, students and their families and we have loved seeing our son's confidence grow (he knows he is smart again!). He looks forward to school and his inquisitive mind is being fed and nurtured. I appreciate that DA looks for his strengths and actively works to affirm and grow them and they are also patiently working with him and giving him strategies to handle and improve his weaknesses. My son has been at DA from the beginning of 6th grade for multiple years. There have been many benefits from his attending this school. His confidence level really improved and he has been challenged with working successfully through more complex tasks involving higher order thinking. He's had a opportunity to excel with extra curricular activities and he has a feeling of belonging that has also given him more confidence. The teachers and administrators have been wonderful and have given him the time he needs to work through any academic issues. He had attended public school before DA and he was beat down with standardized testing, mindless homework assignments and teachers that were only at their jobs to get a check and experienced lots bullying. He is a different kid now with a huge level of confidence, can do attitude and his self esteem has been greatly improved. I'm just grateful that Dallas Academy is here for students like my son and others that just need a little extra help and confidence push to move forward and progress. I can't tell you how impressed I am with DA's caring and devoted staff. I just wish that other struggling public school kids could have the opportunity to experience this environment. Dallas Academy takes kids who would be left on the sidelines and possibly forgotten about and turns them into great leaders, compassionate individuals and students of life that can accomplish anything. My son started Dallas Academy in first grade and it was an immediate relief to him and our family. He was welcomed with open arms and has been thriving ever since. The teachers have all been amazing. They take the time to understand my sons needs and work with him until he has mastered the skill. The class sizes are small which was very important to us and the kids get tons of time everyday outside and in PE. My son is learning, growing socially and happy to go to school everyday! read more

This school has a bunch of issues with the way things are run. People are going to the admin for help with certain situations, and they are turned away as if they were not even there.. All Dallas Academy wants to do is take your money and spend it in the wrong place.. They are also good about lying about being the "right fit for kids with learning differences". The former Headmaster Dr. John Hill was a joke who cared about no one unless they had some importance to Dallas Academy. The new headmaster Ms. Elizabeth Murski is also a big joke.. She has little to no care about certain people who do bad things while the rest of Dallas Academy gets in trouble for the things they do This review may seem harsh to some but its reality and I would strongly advise against sending your child here, so if you DO decide to send your child here... The onboarding was non existent and we never felt welcomed. A team of 2 teachers who taught the same grade in the lower school were the source of many unhappy days for our kiddo. They are cold and uncaring. They did not set our child up for success. They did the complete opposite. Disiplinary actions began from day 1 for things like fidgeting or day dreaming (symptoms of ADHD) and these disciplinary actions included yelling in front of the entire class and sending our child into the hall for up to 30 min. I surprised our child with a birthday lunch only to find our child sitting alone at a table made for 20 students having a "silent lunch" they call it because our child was trying to get the attention of a teacher for help in "centers" Their method of communication with parents is very poor. Projects that are sent home as homework have very few instructions and during presentations the teacher went out of her way to let our child and the entire class know it was done wrong and was made to sit down while our child's classmates laughed. These types of actions that over time teach children to bully in school, so much for their no bullying policy. These instances occurred and were documented but the administration always put their own spin on things and NO ONE but our child was held accountable. There are a total of 3 caring teachers all from the athletics department. Our child stayed as long as could because of their encouragement. They advertise as an LD school but they ARE NOT an LD school. Our child was a happy, confident, kiddo before our child attended DA but as the days past our child became more quiet and visibly depressed. It is heartbreaking to pick up your child everyday and hear things like "my teachers dont like me", or, "I am not good at anything" or "I must be a bad kid". These issues were brought to the teachers, a councilor, Ms. Senacal the Principle and the Headmaster Dr. Hill who took the time to listen and then did nothing to hold anyone accountable except for our child. The school basically took our 22k and did very little to educate our child and instead they gave our child an experience I wish no other child ever has to go through. There are many other reviews about DA on many different private school review sites that are similiar to our experience but in less detail. HOWEVER it is our duty and right as parents to share what happened to us in hopes that someone will listen to us and do something about the serious problems there. read more

Never take your kid here. They just want your money. They have no desire to help your child and they do not practice what they preach. Our student is so far behind and will never be college ready thanks to Dallas Academy. The administration is the worst it has ever been. Changes were made for the 2017/2018 school year and the new headmaster is not personable and not caring toward anyone. We even had friends go visit the school and they were very disappointed in the administration. They said they were rude and "snooty". No one deserves to be treated that way, especially when paying that much money to go to school. Definitely not worth your time or money going to this school. Be sure you check around for other schools in the area that really do care. We will be pulling our kid after this year (since they already have our money and will not refund) and sending him to The Shelton. The Shelton shows true results and it is amazing. The kids at the Shelton truly shine! Dallas Academy is one big money pit with no return investment. Purchaser Beware! read more

This review is long overdue, but I wanted to wait for some time to pass and not let emotions dictate my words. We looked long and hard for a school that would fit the needs of our child. We landed at DA with hopes that it would be a good fit, especially since we were told by administration that they pride themselves on taking in kids with low self esteem and turning things around for them. Our child has mild learning differences, social anxiety issues and low self esteem. We quickly found out that many of the staff members at DA do not know what it truly means to be learning different, but we stayed in hopes that regardless our child would succeed and be happier, especially since we were doing everything possible on our end with therapy, speech, etc. There are some really great hearted, wonderful people at DA also, but not enough to subject your child to being demeaned by those who are not. The tolerance at the public school we came from was far more impressive than the tolerance our child received from DA. It is truly disappointing that this school advertises and presents themselves as something that they are not. Learning Different children need a whole child approach, not just an academic one. Most of the kids have already been made to feel "lesser than", "not good enough", "weird" ... you name it! They need a school that understands their challenges and that doesn't shame them for it. Many teachers there do not have the patience or willingness to teach children with learning differences. LD kids do not only struggle with learning issues. It's actually only one very small piece of a big puzzle. We do not feel that DA understands that. It's truly sad that they pretend to be different than they are and then you have to find out form your child and others what the real picture is. DA is not only "smoke and mirrors", they are doing a huge disservice to children in need of a better environment to learn and thrive. Although we will never know what the future of DA holds ... we believe they need a complete overhaul of staff and their commitment to educating LD kids. read more
