I attended this school over a decade ago. While not everything was negative, several experiences…read moreleft a lasting psychological impact--especially around how certain students were treated. Every part of this review reflects my own personal experiences and perspective as a former student. I share these observations in good faith and hope they offer helpful insight for others. Some teachers were kind and supportive, and I'm grateful for them. But others showed clear favoritism, often treating neurodivergent students, students of color, and those from less affluent families with less patience, care, or respect. I saw students singled out, shamed, or ignored when they needed help. That includes a teacher in the art department, Ms. M**ks (last names) who, despite appearing nice to some, often appeared to treat students who displayed neurodivergence in a harsh and dismissive way. One classmate with ADHD, for example, was frequently criticized for traits beyond their control. I will add that it appears that there is currently a new teacher in her place, and I cannot find this particular teacher on the school website, which is honestly a relief. I watched as she corrected, belittled, or singled out a few (even a few is too many) students who were neurodivergent or just different in how they expressed themselves. One student in particular, who had clear ADHD traits and a real passion for art, was constantly criticized for things like messiness, distraction, or "doing it wrong." It felt like she used that student's neurodivergent traits as targets, rather than offering understanding or support. The dynamic was painful to witness and left a lasting impression on me. There was also a time I was accidentally injured during a class activity involving a particular art material. I wasn't helped or offered first aid--just told it was my fault by that same teacher. That scar stayed on my body for years. There were also incidents involving body shaming in gym class and situations on school trips that felt physically unsafe. Students with invisible needs or without formal diagnoses were often overlooked. While the school talked about values like inclusion and activism, they weren't always reflected in how staff treated students. I hope things have improved since I attended, because all children deserve a safe and supportive learning environment.

Everyone here is specially gifted in their own unique way and the teachers aren't just teachers -- they're specialists. The smaller teacher-to-student ratio means students receive an incredible amount of individual attention, support and encouragement. The extra care given to each child is obvious from the moment you walk through the doors. And yes, with that level of care and attention to detail-- things occasionally involve thoughtful discussions, careful planning, another meeting and perhaps one more meeting just to discuss the previous meeting's findings. Excellence takes time specifically in this Special Environment. Of course, no review would be complete without mentioning Sal the Stallion, lovingly known by some as "Special Sal," proudly representing a community that's not afraid to celebrate what makes everyone unique. A great logo made by someone especially gifted! Five stars for the staff, the students, the families and the wonderfully special community they've built together. ¡L'Chaim! They're also ProTrans (transparency) and ProCult (culture). Rumor has it (I'm unofficially the only Special Suarez!)

There was recently a big big cricket invasion that no one did anything about. If you don't pay extra(for camps/classes/etc.), they can only really crowd into a single gym(and not even all the time due to basketball lessons) or do math/chinese packets. Additionally, I recall there being an issue with water splashing/wet floors in the bathrooms. Huayi simply closed the bathrooms (boys) and put cameras in as well. Hua Yi was also sold recently to Mrs. Sun. I remember her as a nice Chinese teacher, they have also changed their logo to a friendlier, more modern one. I hope this reflects potential changes in their building/school in future as well.

Hello I'm Samuel Ran and ill be trying to tell you about this place…read more This place isn't all bad, but it does have its flaws. As someone who has spent time here, I can see both the good and the bad. On the positive side, while some of the kids might not be the easiest to get along with (to put it mildly), the teachers here deserve recognition. Special shoutout to Mrs. Xie and Mr. Jefferson--they're truly amazing! Many students complain about how "mean" the teachers are, but honestly, they don't realize how challenging it must be to work a demanding 9-to-5 job, managing a classroom full of unruly kids every single day. It's no easy task, and I think the teachers deserve a lot more credit for their dedication and effort. That said, there's room for improvement. Take the restrooms, for example--they're far from sanitary. They're crawling with cockroaches, and I'm pretty sure they don't meet the state's health standards. While there have been some small improvements, they're still a long way from acceptable. Then there are the classrooms. They're overcrowded, which makes it nearly impossible for teachers to give students the attention they need. The rooms themselves aren't much better--they don't even have windows, and the walls and desks are littered with graffiti and profanity (I won't repeat any of it because, well, let's keep things appropriate). On top of that, the furniture hasn't been replaced in 20 years. It's outdated and falling apart--it's long overdue for an upgrade, Mrs. Yi. (P.S they give us activities like basketball ping pong and a whole room dedicated to playing which keeps us sane and from not going crazy) Despite all this, the school is still standing and trying its best after all these years. But with just a bit of effort and investment, it could go from "just getting by" to a place everyone could truly take pride in.

Not only that, but she has STRAIGHT A's for the first time since 1st grade! I am so thankful for the team at Grade Power - from their initial testing, they voiced concerns that we already had about our daughter possibly having some learning differences. We had her tested through her school in 2nd grade, and they told us she was ADHD and should be medicated. We disagreed, and didn't medicate, but she continued to struggle in school. Thanks to Grade Power reconfirming our concerns, we got outside testing completed and lo and behold, she is Dyslexic! She has been on a personal tutoring plan at Grade Power and now also has a 504 in place at school to get additional accommodations to help her learn with her learning differences. She even is enjoying reading - something I never thought would happen! Check them out - their tutors and staff are super friendly and our daughter actually enjoys going to tutoring (this from a girl who has, in the past, HATED school and anything school-like!).
