I went with Wooly Mammoth to move all my stuff from Bensonhurst to Astoria (3br down to a 2br) and man, I'm glad I did. This was at the height of the snowstorm shenanigans back in early/late Feb '26 when the snow had turned to ice and parking was super challenging. These guys had it down to a science. Tim helped me via email to understand the size of the truck they needed to move all my stuff without issue which put my mind at ease going into the process. They were super patient through the entire process and squeezed as much as they could into the truck on the day off. My movers just left and I couldn't be more pleased with their service. They were on time, super professional and got everything done in a timely manner. Christian set everything up prior to the move day and he made it all very easy and seamless. My Brooklyn 3rd floor walk up is no treat to lug my grandparents antique furniture up, but they did it extremely well. All of my items require a little extra care, they are almost all antiques and they were all handled well and thoughtfully. We scheduled Wooly a bit last minute bc the original movers we had fell through, and Christian the owner was very transparent and thorough with the breakdown of charges, give or take minor changes depending on traffic and travel time- but nothing that would alarm you. We were moving from Brooklyn to Upstate NY, about 1.5 hrs out, and their rate was very reasonable. The movers were very prompt and attentive to fragile belongings, wrapping them up accordingly. Dave, the foreman was an expert in configuring the packing of the truck, where he managed to amazingly fit everything, considering we had a few strangely shaped furniture. The unloading went smoothly, with the movers being in pleasant moods despite all the sweating. Note: make sure you're courteous and provide them with adequate beverages, as they would really need it! These guys are awesome. Christian and his crew are very professional. Wrapping everything that needed to be wrapped but not wasting extra time unnecessarily over protecting things. It was a sweltering hot day and I was on a 5th floor walk up; they kept a great attitude the whole day, cheerful, joking around, overall really nice friendly guys. I think that most of them moonlight as musicans so they are very chill. Another thing is the price, which was amazing. These guys were great. I had a not-too-large move with a few large/tricky items and a lot of stairs, and they were all over it. I won't say they're some insane high-end movers -- although I bet they would be happy to -- but they treated my stuff very well, were fast, on time, eager to please, and everything else you'd want from a young company working hard to get established. Multiple Moves Speaks for itself. I've already rehired Christian and his team... and will do so again. He is: reliable, professional, competitive and hilarious. Yep, the humor is a bonus. His bluemobile (the sprinter) is huge. I was dubious, but he moved 90% of Brooklyn triplex from Brooklyn to Montauk in it.... and fit me and a friend to boot. He and his partner had us cracking up for the 4 hours it took to get there during summer traffic. When we got there, he showed off his moves on my long board before heading back to the city. And his prices were very competitive for a long haul move from the city. For part 2 of my move, which I rehired Wooly Mammoth for, they moved the other 10% of the apt into my teeny West Village studio -- navigating the beyond narrow hallways of the iconic NYC walk ups: without a complaint OR damage. When reviewing a hair salon, it is important to wait a few weeks, to make sure you love the cut as much when it's grown out a bit as you do initially. The same with a new restaurant - shouldn't you give it a second try rather than rely on a first impression during a soft-open? In this case, I felt it was best to wait on my review until I was sure that my stuff had moved and that it would not, spontaneously, return to my old apartment. In this way would I judge the quality of the move. And lo. The move stuck, and here, a month later, is my review of Wooly Mammoth Movers. "Moving sucks." Many reviews of movers start with this general assumption, but I argue that it is, in certain cases, unfounded. In my experience, moving is a few weeks of anticipation tempered by acute lameness (namely, finding any possible excuse to delay packing). This is followed by intense physical activity (calling in sick to work to buy boxes and start packing roughly 24 hours before the movers are due...having just called them and begged) and more physical activity - the rigors of the move itself (one always feels obliged to help, not "supervise") after having been awake all night. After waking up at 3pm the next afternoon, the moving process then, over the course of the following weeks and months, tapers off into a Zeno's paradox of never quite being done cleaning, arranging, and unpacking. But does all of this suck? NO! It's exciting! You're MOVING!! New home! New beginnings! Tabula rasa! Etc! You might be broken and exhausted and frustrated, but it's the "good" kind of broken/exhausted/frustrated, the one where you reward yourself with a burrito and beer, not Valium and chardonnay! Theoretically! The psychological process of moving [on] entails having no regrets. The domicilical moving process, as well, should have no regrets. Choosing a mover is stressful because it entails that good ol' fear of the unknown, and the crushing anxiety of the potential for disaster. That potential for disaster would come to fruition were, for example, the movers ornery, careless souls, or were their vehicle too small to fit your much-greater-than-ever-anticipated load of belongings. Gladly, this is not the case. As aforementioned, Kris took me on at that last minute, squeezing me after a day-long move out on Long Island, and before a dinner party at his house. I was flexible on time, but he kept me updated on their progress throughout the day, so I'd know how fast I had to scramble to finish packing....er, when they would arrive. I am so, so glad I went with a company offering a larger than normal sized van, because my stuff would've never fit inside the typical "man with a van" van. That said, Kris & Co. were expert packers, extremely efficient, and careful. And did I mention? They also provided the lowest quote of all the companies I contacted. Most importantly, they sweated up and down the fourth-floor walk-up I moved into with nary a rolled eyeball. Heartily recommend. read more

Found these guys on Yelp for a last-second move. Was a little worried because they only had 1 review posted, and were free to take on my move quite early the following morning, but everything went incredibly smoothly. There were absolutely no issues or unfortunate surprises. 3 guys showed up on time (lead by Dave), went to work, finished hauling everything to the van in short order, and then unloaded it at the new place even more quickly. I was a little nervous that their van wouldn't hold all of my furniture and boxes, but everything fit quite easily in the end. The entire move took much less time than I could have reasonably hoped for and I would've been happy to give them a much bigger tip if my debit card wasn't tapped out that day. I highly recommend these guys to anyone doing a studio or 1 bedroom move. read more

This will be a very quick review, also my first on Yelp. My girlfriend and I moved on this past Friday (the last in April). I reached out to Christian on the Monday prior and he easily led me through the process. Filled out a simple questionnaire on my inventory as accurately as I could and that was all she wrote. The price quoted was the best we found and was upheld upon moving. We used two movers: Dave and Paul. These guys were amazing. I love lists so here's why I attribute that superlative: a) they were both professional b) extremely pleasant and funny c) we had a few more items than I remembered and they didn't make a fuss over it at all d) superbly efficient I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THESE MOVERS. We had no issues, the price was phenomenal and they all made the move so much easier. Also, and I cannot stress this enough, EFFICIENT. We were moved from a ground floor one bedroom apartment into a 2nd floor walkup within Brooklyn in under two and a half hours. I've never written a Yelp review before but knew I had to because of this great experience. We hired a 3 man crew from Wooly for a move to another apartment in NYC during the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone was professional, very nice, and conscientious about wearing a mask; they also got all our stuff into our new apartment without any damage, and that included bringing our couch up a very narrow staircase and hallway that we never could have figured out to navigate on our own. With the mandatory tip included, which made us feel good about the company, we also still had one of the most affordable quotes we could find in the city. Thanks Christian, Danny, Trevor, and Daniel! My SECOND review of Wooly Mammoth. I moved once last year from Brooklyn to Manhattan, and just this month from Manhattan to Queens, and used Wooly Mammoth both times. Same as last year, this time around they were totally efficient, friendly, funny, and fast. The guys who moved my stuff were Dave and Paul. I like WM because they're all of the things I just said they are, and also because they're a local company with a personal touch. That counts for a lot in my book. I wish I could think of a rhyme to urge you to use Wooly Mammoth, but I can't think of anything that rhymes with "mammoth." So maybe "Don't be silly, go with Wooly" will have to do for the time being. read more

Wow, seriously awesome movers. If i could give them 10 stars out of five, I would. My partner and I are artists, musicians, avid readers, cooks, and herbalists - we have A LOT of stuff of varying sizes and fragility to move (as well a giant Ikea mirror, oy!). EVERY single thing made it in one piece. The guys were so kind and low stress - they made a typically stressful experience- moving - much easier - dare I say really good. I didn't want to be a spiteful reviewer, so I've waited about a year to write this one, but it was such a miserable move that it seems like folks should have fair warning... I scheduled a move with Wooly Mammoth last year (based on all these awesome recommendations!); when the move day came they didn't show, were extremely difficult to reach, and claimed we hadn't scheduled anything. They were moving someone else. I was totally freaked out--everything was packed, a new renter was about to move in, etc.--but I called around and tried to find another mover. Later in the day, WM was able to check their email and agreed that, yes, we had scheduled the move. Because I wanted to give them a chance to fix things, I cancelled the second mover and WM movers arrived very late in the day. I was not impressed. They moved quickly but not carefully, so there were some broken things (probably in part because they were exhausted). No one offered a discount. If you do use these guys, be sure to confirm repeatedly, and don't trust their record-keeping. read more

We hired Wooly Mammoth Movers to unload our moving truck in Brooklyn. They were very professional and did an excellent job. The movers were efficient and careful unloading items and carrying them up stairs. They also helped to assemble some big pieces of furniture. They were pleasant, easy to deal with, and understanding when we asked them to move things around the apartment multiple times as we tried to figure out how to fit our old furniture in our new apartment. Christian the owner was very helpful and responsive in coordinating details. He even stopped by our job site to check in. I am a jerk and I don't remember the names of the two guys who helped me move apartments but they deserve 5 stars. I booked my move extremely last minute (less than 24 hours before) because someone had cancelled on me just as last minute and I am so happy I found them. They came right on time, quickly, efficiently and seemingly effortlessly moved everything I owned into my new apartment and even helped break down my ikea bed frame and bring down some furniture left behind that I didn't want in the new apartment. The move went so smoothly that when we found a parking spot directly in front of my new building I joked that everything was too perfect something was about to go wrong... but it never did. The guys were happy and fun and seemed to legitimately enjoy what they were doing which makes everything better. They engaged me in conversation and played with my dog. They didn't expect me to help but were grateful when I did. All in all, moving is horrible and stressful and Wooly Mammoth made it a breeze. I hate to forget the dudes names but one had lovely long hair tied back in a bun and was very sweet and the other was dark haired and charmingly sarcastic-- so shout out to you guys whoever you are! Wooly Mammoth did an impeccable job - twice! - When I had to move all of my belongings into a storage space and then, a month later, into a new apartment. The company is crewed by astonishingly strong men and women who are otherwise mostly in the music business - so you're actually supporting the arts while getting your business taken care of by consummate professionals. The first move took place on a swelteringly hot day that somehow didn't slow them down in the least. Watching them pack a storage space to the last cubic inch was like observing a game of high-level 3D Tetris. They treated my possessions with all due respect, wrapping up items I'd neglected to protect. They're pretty good as a man-with-a-van team. Previously I'd used an expensive professional company, and woolly were half that price. They don't provide supplies like wardrobe boxes or miles of bubble wrap, I'd been spoiled by previous lot and needed to reset expectations. Our furniture got minor chips and scrapes. One of the guys was lovely, the other one (who arrived later with the van) less so, tho maybe that is to be expected after an hour or two stuck in traffic before he got to us. They worked hard, got our stuff moved pretty fast, didn't complain when the new building kept us waiting for keys and elevators, put the beds back together expertly. All in all, I'd use them again, but buy more bubble wrap beforehand! read more

In the past I never had too much to move but after spending five years in a loft apartment in Brooklyn, I had acquired a little more than my friends with a van could help me out with. Also, my boyfriend and I were both moving from our own apartments into our first place together so this was going to be a two stop job. Rich and Dave were great. They were super considerate, quick and careful with our things. They also rolled with the punches. My landlord had promised that the elevator would be made available to us but it wasn't working at all. I couldn't believe they managed to move all of my stuff down 4 floors, and pick up my boyfriend's things in under 4 hours (considering that my boyfriend still hadn't finished packing). I would recommend packing though. I told my boyfriend to pack but he didn't. Heed my advice. Pack. All in all I was super happy with Wooly Mammoth and I would hire them again in a second. read more

Wooly Mammoth get a 5 star rating. I wish I could give them a 10 star! Moving is a stressful experience, no matter how prepared or organized one is. I am relocating to Europe and needed all of my work (I'm a visual artist), my entire studio, as well as my large collection of book and records and personal materials moved into storage, all together in one go. I communicated throughout the month before the move with Christian, sending pictures and short videos at his request of my progress packing, to make sure he knew exactly what to expect and what I needed. I was organized, taking special care and time to make sure all of my work was properly packed and ready for storage and a move. Artworks are extremely delicate and I had various kinds of works, many framed works on paper, paintings, drawings and prints that needed archival treatment before storage and needed to be carefully handled. Christian helped me feel at ease and secure, knowing he was on top of things and nothing would be unexpected. He understood the need to be careful and organized with the moving and storing of artwork. The day of the move went like clockwork, they were on time and David (his Manger of the jobs and main dude), was remarkably efficient and extremely good at making space for the work and what things needed special attention and careful treatment. The apartment went much the same way. It was the same story with organizing and placing things in the storage unit. David and the guys were focused and full of good humor and support. These guys are great! I used them to move the contents of my bedroom from a shared apartment on Roosevelt Island to a shared apartment in Brooklyn. They're fast and efficient - they're not going to laze around just so they can charge you for another hour, and they're not going to add on a bunch of surprise charges when it comes time to pay.
