I admit to having Post traumatic stress disorder from my last move in 2012. So when it came time to move again in 2023,, I was extremely cautious with my choice of movers. Not that I was not last time. I was. I think I spoke to approximately a dozen movers before choosing Cool Hand Movers. I needed many items packed for me. Most of the movers I contacted wanted a box count of the items to be moved. I did not have that nor could I handle packing all of the remaining belongings in my apartment by myself. I needed help and I needed help I could be confident about. I found them with a little help from another mover who I called who said they do not handle moves such as mine. They highly recommended I contact Cool Hand Movers. I had a previous mover who I had gotten from New York magazine's "Best of" section of their publication. I decided to try and find out who they were currently recommending. Cool Hand Movers came up as the best for people who needed items packed. I contacted them immediately. One of the things I really appreciated about Cool Hand Movers other than the amazing team of movers they sent to me was their smart use of technology. I only found one mover who was willing to come to my apartment to give me an estimate based on what they saw in my apartment. But they intended to farm out the work to a smaller company without giving me a choice of who that work was going to be assigned to. Not okay in my book. I want to be in control of who is handling my belongings. Cool Hand Movers sent me a link to upload a video of my apartment featuring my possessions. I think it had room for a 2-3 minute video. I opened closets and cabinets and was able to provide them with an accurate tour of my apartment. I was also able to talk during the video. So for example my mattress and television did not need to be moved and I was able to share that info via video. Smart! This method really made Cool Hand Movers stand out from the crowd and insured a more accurate estimate for me. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated that fact. Now I get to tell you about the truly outstanding part about my move with Cool Hand Movers. They sent me the most amazing team of movers. Four young men named; Tone (as in Antone, I suspect), Yuri, Aidan and Eduardo. Each and everyone as lovely to know as the next. Together they had it going on with different individual strengths that enabled them to make a great team. Not only was it obvious to me that they shine as a team but apparently they are very well aware of their combined superpower themselves. It was a sincere pleasure to spend 1 1/2 days with them. We're moving across country and needed movers to help us shuttle our belongings to a portable storage container. I booked directly with them through their website. The quote process was clear and easy. We then received a thorough and comprehensive reply so we knew exactly what to expect on moving day. The movers were quick and knowledgeable; they were super cool, too. I also felt at ease knowing they were making sure to take care of my things. We followed the truck on the way to the storage and peeped how the drivers avoided potholes and sewer caps so my things (which included a TV and fragile art) didn't get jacked up from rough roads. Not sure if I can say the same thing about the storage container folks. The best thing is by using Cool Hand, I felt good knowing I'm supporting small and local. Everything was packed clearly so that we could find the appropriate screws and shelves for the various units, most different sizes, as we slowly reassembled. These guys rule! From the booking to the actual move, it was a great experience overall. I had called around to several different moving companies and a lot of them seemed sketchy and overpriced. CHM on the other hand was straightforward and their pricing seemed much more reasonable. To book, you fill out the quote request online where it asks you to select all the items you'll be moving and approximate number of boxes. From there you get an estimate and then pay a $150 deposit to lock in the move. There's also a $50 travel fee, but they waived mine since I was nearby. On moving day, the guys were on time, communicated well, and worked very quickly. They did the entire move in exactly 3 hours. No sour attitudes, no damage to items. They ruined my entire day! I had my move scheduled for last Friday morning but they forgot about me or, more likely, found a higher paying job. What was supposed to be done in a couple hours became an entire day of waiting. Their ETA was between 8am and 9am. The entire morning their phone line would only hang up when called. When they finally reached out to me around 10:30am (after I DM'd them on Instagram) they told me the news that they would have to show up 7 hours later than their original ETA after they finished another job that they scheduled at the same time as mine. Back when I was in college in 2008, I ran a moving company for two summers up in Boston. I had a lot of experience hiring help that would never show up, slack off, leave partway through the job, and I generally became disillusioned with the work ethic of most people. All my subsequent moves I did myself or with friends because I did not trust anyone else to do it right. Cool Hand Movers restored my faith in humanity and work ethic. The guys (Reggie and The Gang) were the finest gentlemen I have ever worked with for moving or any form of work. They showed up (early!) and got right to work. My wife and I had thought we packed up pretty well, but there was actually a lot to be done (disassembling and wrapping furniture, etc). They divvied up the responsibilities and attacked our apartment like SEAL Team 3. My role shifted from trying to physically help to just making sure they had everything they needed to perform, like water/gatorade/coffee. They were machines, fueled by passion and a desire to make every move the best move. As he walked over to pick up what I think was an entirely full filing cabinet, we said to Reggie, "Reggie, watch out that's pretty heavy". He looks at us, smiles, and says "Nothing is heavy", and proceeded to hoist it overhead and carry it down the stairs and down the street. My mother and father were there to "help" and Reggie and The Gang were absolute gentlemen around them, making my mother laugh with their quick wit and humor. We moved from NYC at the beginning of March, which happened to be right before the COVID closures hit. We joked about it a bit with the guys (this was before anyone was taking it seriously), and given the situation I hope they are all doing well, we think of them often. So it's been roughly 5 days and I must say, I had such amazing movers. Jason and Chris were the best movers i've had and I've moved three times. Moving with Cool Hand Movers was an excellent experience! Matt's customer service was fantastic and he was extremely responsive throughout the entire process -- from providing a quote quickly after I requested one online, booking and confirming the move, turning around complex paperwork required by the buildings I was moving in/out of, and coordinating the move seamlessly. CHM was also fantastic at dealing with an unexpected logistical/parking challenge: we learned the day before the move that a film crew was going to block all of the parking around our onload location on our scheduled move day; CHM worked with our building's super to make sure they could park, load, and get the move done as scheduled. On move day, the movers (Kyshawn and his team) showed up right on time, were very friendly, very professional, worked very fast, protected and transported all of our belongings safely, communicated well, and were very reliable! They also ably handled the pesky film crew to ensure they did not disrupt the move. It could not have gone more smoothly, and all credit goes to CHM! On top of all of that, we were able to use CHM to pick up some furniture we had planned to donate to Ruth's Refuge through CHM's Reuse for Refugees program (low-cost pickups of high-need furniture items, which will go to refugees in the NYC area). Being able to get the furniture donation picked up at the same time as our actual move -- and not having to arrange a separate move/pickup -- was incredible. The team was fast but also carefully protected all the furniture, either with blankets or shrink wrap. They were able to move a 7-ft solid wood table out the door and into the new apt which was no small feat. We hired Cool Hand Movers at the recommendation of a friend and let me tell you we are so glad we did! The estimate process was very straightforward: we filled out a pretty detailed form to get a quote that was quite reasonable given we didn't have much to move (all our furniture was oversized so only took our king storage bed). We worked with Matt throughout the whole process via email and he was very communicative and helpful throughout. We even had to adjust our inventory a couple days beforehand and it was easy peasy and the team was very accommodating. Aside from moving all of my boxes of books, I burdened these guys with the herculean task of hauling a bunch of massive steel filing cabinets and flat files up to a third floor apartment, and then stacking them exactly where I wanted them in the space. Wish I could give these guys 100 stars! Not only did they arrive at exactly 8am, half of my apartment was loaded out within the hour. Jason (foreman) and his crew (Daryl, Reggie and Sam) hustled as I've never seen. On a rainy day, they were able to make two pickups and be completely loaded out at the dropoff location well before the building elevator cutoff time. GREAT EXPERIENCE!!! We hired Cool Hand Movers to unload a rental van to move my daughter into her 4th floor walk-up in NYC. The movers were on-time, so polite and professional and very quick (but careful). With the extra time we had for the 2 hour minimum, they helped assemble some of my daughter's furniture, tear down boxes and remove garbage and made her settling in so much easier.
