I used All-Star Moving in December of 2021, to a temporary apartment until I found a house. The crew was fantastic! I was so happy with their work that I reached out to them again, to the head of the crew specifically, to schedule a move to my new house. We corresponded through emails, which I still have. They were supposed to be here at 2:00 p.m. yesterday, 27 May. I'm sorry to say, however, that they did not show up. At all. No texts, no phone calls. It threw my schedule completely off and I furiously tried to contact another company, as my last day at my temporary place is 31 May. With the Memorial Day holiday coming, I was concerned about finding someone at the last minute. I finally found another company and, luckily, they were able to schedule me today. They are here right now, as I write this. I don't know what happened with All-Star, but unless they reach out to me to explain, I cannot recommend them at this time. These movers are the real deal! I have used them three times: twice to just move an apartment I packed myself (one of which was a cross-country move)--and just yesterday--to fully pack and move a cramped 1 BR in Brooklyn to a storage facility. This time, it was an emergency move on very short notice. Rich and Anthony were helpful in every aspect of planning, including the coordination with my landlord and the preparation for their arrival (I wanted to pack a few personal boxes myself). Rich gave me an accurate estimate at the outset, as he has each for each of my three moves. He assembled a team of 5 professional guys who were stress-free, efficient but not frantic, and as cordial to each other as they were to me and my husband. They operated with the technical facility and improvisational skill of a seasoned jazz quintet. They listened to my concerns about packing various items carefully, but it became clear that they required no direction--although they didn't say that to me, they showed it, graciously. They packed and thoroughly protected each piece of our furniture for long-term storage. They removed and packaged tricky items for me that no longer had their own boxes, like heavy window shades and curtains. They hand carried (on their backs) every package out to their truck and into storage with care. If you are wondering if you can trust these guys with your fragile FLOS lamps and your Le Corbusier sofa, the answer is: YES. I don't have furniture like that, but it's just as valuable to me, and they treated it as such. And they had wonderful collective sense of humor the whole time. I've never needed a full pack and move, so I had no idea how it could happen in a single day. This time, it absolutely had to, and these guys accomplished the task with ease. They even managed to pack some giant plants without breaking them so I could move them from storage to a plant sitter on my own time. I must emphasize that every single person who works for this company at any level is professional, expert, polite, stress-free, warm and understanding. Moving for most people is a defining moment of mental and physical fortitude. Many choose to rent a truck, seek assistance from family and friends and use pizza and beer as currency. Hours later, some relationships are strained because of the long hours, inability to transport heavy items through narrow doorways and quick fatigue (many of us are out of shape). In previous moves, it was the bane of my existence, whether it was for moving a friend, a family member or myself. Time Out New York listed this vendor as the most efficient out of the 4 suggested NYC moving companies [http://newyork.timeout.com/articles/apartments/79278/best-nyc-moving-companies]. I had their undivided attention. I called a handful of moving companies and did my comparison shopping. Although I got a few quotes (which were cheaper), I was sold by the estimator (Nick) would came on site to see everything (no obligation to accept the bid). This was to avoid any discrepancies on the final bill. We agreed to a flat rate plus and hourly rate for packing the kitchen. On the scheduled moving day, the guys came in a truck, scouted my apartment and went to work. My movers were Tim (foreman), Clive and Carlos. All Star Movers' tagline should be "we are the silent sherpas". These guys handled a 2 bedroom move... from a 2 floor walkup in the Bronx, moving to a 5 floor walkup in Manhattan. These dudes were serious when they carried my stuff up the 5 flights. Mind you, the only thing I could compare them to are the porters who run up and down Machu Picchu (Peru) with the tourist bags (ie 3x their body weight) on their backs. These guys were impressive. I was also impressed with the packing skills of the wardrobes boxes (I believe 25 boxes are included) and the kitchen. As my wife unpacked, she noted that the plates, cups, utensils, etc were securely packed and organized; this made it easier for us. One problem I will note was that I was told that to save money (man per hour and travel time) that I should get three guys in the Bronx. In Manhattan, if there were guys (on other jobs available) they would assist the Manhattan gratis to expedite the move. Unfortunately this did not happen. I almost felt bad for the movers, but these guys never complained one peep or grimaced (a lot of sweat, though). One of them would sing and the other two would make jokes. Lunch and drink breaks were kept to a minimum (this was by their choice, not by my orders). The movers wanted to finish the job as efficiently as possible. I know that if I were in an elevator building (or less stairs) the move would have been completed quickly (I have a lot of stuff). There was no damage on my furniture and other stuff upon final inspection so I am very happy with their service. I paid a premium for All Star Movers but overall they were an excellent choice. This testimonial is long overdue. Last August during Hurricane Irene we were scheduled to move. Conveniently, the center of the storm was forecast to hit on Sunday of that final weekend, which is exactly when we had an appt with another company to do our move from Manhattan to Brooklyn. As the media played up the potential severity of the storm and the weather reports were looking grimmer and grimmer, I panicked and did everything in my power to move our appt up to Saturday. Nope. Can't do it. Not possible. Are you crazy?? A hurricane is coming! I was freaking out. As luck would have it, someone from another company whom I can't remember referred me to Richard, who is the owner of All Star. She said, "If anyone can help you out, it's probably him." Well, she was right. Richard was honest with me and made it clear he couldn't promise anything, but would do his best to get a crew together who might be willing to brave the impending storm and "get 'er done." He delivered on that promise. His estimate was fair, accurate and he stood by his word. An honest and trustworthy man. The crew showed up early on Sat morning and proceeded to bang out the job with superhuman strength and a surgeon's precision. This was our first experience with bulk movers and I have to say, I was completely flabbergasted by these guys. Not only were they herculean, negotiating loads I never imagined anyone would be crazy enough to attempt, but they worked quickly, thoughtfully and with care. They were like a well-oiled machine, highly organized and efficient. I'm a bit hard pressed to remember the actual timing at this point, but I think the entire process took about 4 or 4.5 hours to move a 2BR apt in the West Village to Park Slope. In the rain! NONE of our stuff was lost, damaged or compromised in any way. Those guys were total ninjas and very nice, too. Complete professionals from start to finish. Admittedly, I was nervous they were going to expect and demand some insane tip per person and bleed us dry, but they didn't. I gave them a healthy tip and thanked them profusely, which they were very appreciative of and gracious about. I would wholeheartedly recommend using All Star without reservation. I relied on Yelp to find this place, so I'll leave a little love (and, trust me, I waited until I had used their storage services and reclaimed my things and settled my account to write this). Rodney & Co. were super responsive (usually via email), friendly, and flexible. They took good care of my things and I recently emptied my unit and found everything as it should be (and not smelly! and not dusty!). The pricing was fair and closing the account was easy. All around a good experience. My things were packed and prepped in my apartment in upper manhattan and stored in their facility (in Brooklyn) for about 8 months. These are the WORST movers ever. We are unpacking today from our horrible move yesterday and continually shocked at what a bad job they did they as continue to unpack mislabeled boxes in wrong rooms on wrong floors. I think the best was the 3 boxes of unlabeled perishables like milk yogurt and cheese that I found 25 hours later UNDER other similar looking cardboard boxes sitting in the kitchen. They couldn't even bother to tell me they were putting the box there. The runner up though was the heavy printer labeled office ( which is in the basement ) that someone decided to put in the 3 rd floor baby's room so that my husband had to carry it down 3 flights of stairs. All Star's customer service would stand out as objectively excellent in any industry, let alone amid the usual minefield of sketchy moving companies charging hidden fees. I called All Star in March 2015 to move me out of a small Manhattan 1BR (3rd floor walk-up) and into their Brooklyn facility, thinking I'd only need a couple months of storage while I traveled. Two years, three countries, four U.S. states, and the death of a parent later, I am finally retrieving my things and moving to California. My experience with All Star has been unconditionally positive from start to finish. Quick replies to my initial inquiry. Clear communication about pricing. Professional and efficient movers, punctual and pleasant to deal with. I was mostly ready but they helped me pack up my kitchen -- did a great job, maybe a little generous with the packing materials, and I ended up with more cubic feet in storage than expected, but that's probably on me. Better than things breaking, anyway, right? Move went off without a hitch. When I needed to leave my things longer than planned, All Star was flexible. When I inadvertently missed a couple payments because I was out of the country, they worked with me to get back on track. Any questions were answered on the spot or within the day. Now that I'm moving cross-country, they've been great at coordinating with the relocation company and communicating with me. I was afraid I'd have to fly to NYC and oversee the transfer of property -- nope! Easy, transparent, great. The cherry on top? They just emailed to ask where to send a check for the $150 I'd prepaid (but won't use) in April. When was the last time a company proactively reached out to return money to you? I hired these guys after reading about them on MovingScam.com (which, contrary to the name, is a site about *avoiding* moving scams). Not only did their website provide plenty of positive testimonials, but they put all of their license numbers right there for you to locate, so that should you want to, you can look up their pristine track record. Everyone I talked to on the phone was great. They were so informative, and were not pushy at all. The day of the move, they arrived on time and the three guys - who were all polite and personable - got right to work, loading up boxes and carefully, carefully wrapping every piece of furniture in blankets and securing them with tape. They even emptied my hanging clothes from the closets and transported them in "free rental" closet boxes. And my TV - the thing I was most worried about - arrived in perfect shape. They made it to my new apartment before I did, and while they finished a little late, the fact that they were so kind, placed all my furniture and boxes in the appropriate places, and basically made my moving day a breeze, I didn't mind the extra money I had to pay. I even added more to each man's tip - that's how pleased I was. All Star is highly, highly recommended. read more

My new tenants used All Star, so I don't have the full picture, however, one of the movers was also quite rude to my father. They also took some of my (unframed) art off the wall to protect them during the move, but put them on the FLOOR under a door, which I found to be pretty disrespectful. There were a few fingerprints on the borders and a tiny nick to the paper on one piece, but they were pretty ok. I just thought they could have asked my tenants or my father who was supervising where to put them. Update: I only just saw the response below. I appreciate the explanation, although it's quite defensive, condescending and unnecessarily long. First, I don't recall being asked any specific questions, so I must have missed a message. As I said, I wasn't present, so I didn't have the full picture, but I simply said that they could have asked my tenants or my father who were there to supervise about the art. Period. No need to go on from there. Further, my own tenants actually said that their team was rude to my father. He's elderly and gets confused--that's why he probably moved your bag. I've moved 5 times in NYC, so I know that finding good movers is stressful, but All Star made the entire process easy and affordable. Definitely believe all the great reviews!! Both my former roommate and I used them and have nothing but glowing things to say. The team was courteous, friendly, and efficient. They went above and beyond any requests. Originally I booked a two part move with over night storage, and their prices STILL beat the bigger competitors, note that I did do all packing by myself to save money. (never bother with a place that sends someone for an estimate. Its going to be $$$$. Also anyone that charges for a certificate of insurance is bogus, they are and should be free.) a few days before, I was able to plead with my new landlord to let me move in a day early, so I no longer needed overnight storage. All Star accepted the new plan without any questions or grief and adjusted the price accordingly, keeping the same hourly rate. This review is going to be much shorter than they deserve. I've now moved with them three times; each time has been impressive for any business (much less a moving company). Want to deal with everyone over e-mail? No problem. Want to get someone on the phone? No problem. Fair prices? Check. Pack as much as you want for you, including the jenky piece of "furniture" held together by string and unpack it just as you last saw it? Check. I'm really impressed with these guys. They moved us on June 30 from a 1 BR on the UWS to a 2 BR in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn apt was a co-op with a million rules and regulations about COI, timing, security guards etc and they took care of everything. We had packed ourselves and were completely packed when they arrived. They took care of both dis-assembling and reassembling our queen size Ikea bed. They wrapped and padded all our furniture. They fit a sofa and big chair through doors, unscathed, by removing the legs, but also by being knowledgeable about how to aim the sofa at the the door. (I swear I didn't think it was going to fit.) They were on time, worked hard and got everything moved with a minimum of misery. (Moving is by definition miserable.) The people I spoke to in the office were pleasant, professional and knowledgeable. The movers themselves were the same. The price was fair and there were no unexpected charges. I would use them again in a heartbeat. They were everything I want a mover to be. (As an off-topic aside, I used plastic rentable bins instead of cardboard boxes for this move. THEY ARE THE BEST!!! I will review elsewhere, but if you are moving you gotta try these. I will never use cardboard boxes for moving again.) read more

Moved out of nyc in july for a few months so had these guys pack up my stuff and put it in their storage. Took them a little over an hour and ended up paying about $600 in total costs. Moved back into new york in september and they delivered my stuff with no problems. It took about 20 minutes for them to move my stuff back in and paid about $500. I used All Star for a two part move from Astoria to Park Slope and then to Prospect Heights. They were even able to store my stuff for a month! All Star made a crazy multi-part move fairly painless and Richard was professional ans courteous through the entire move. The only complaints are that they didn't confirm before one of the pickup days until the morning of the move (which made me a little anxious). Also one of their movers broke something and clearly knew he did it and pretended he didn't. To their credit, when we submitted a complaint, they were ready to compensate us. We didn't end up asking for any compensation, but due to the professionalism and courteousness of the management I'm going to give them five stars. I look forward to using them again in the future. Fantastic moving company. The day before our move (on 06/19) they called to confirm the time and I said "I'm looking forward to moving" ... quickly realizing how silly that sounded. But, the truth is that with this company you can say that and mean it. From the first phone-call, to the no-commitment, 100% accurate moving quote (also done by Nick in our case), to the move itself ... all the people we dealt with were not only professional but extremely nice. We paid for a full pack and move for a two bedroom apartment. This meant that they packed *everything*: we did not lift a finger! Nick said it would take 3.5 hours to pack and load up the truck, with 5-6 people working, and that's exactly what happened. All the packers/movers (Carlos, Andy, Patrick, Hurt, Clive ... sorry if I misspelled or missed someone) were extremely careful. They asked me where and how I wanted everything packed and definitely did not make me feel like I was in the way or that they would rather be doing something else. This is their job and they do it well. Unload at the new apartment was quick and efficient. Any furniture that was taken apart was put back together and placed where requested. We're still unpacking, but as of now we have not noticed anything broken or lost. In fact, they were so thorough in packing that we laugh at some surprising items. For example, they packed our ice trays ... ice and a!l. Same for a little bowl of baking soda that we kept in in our old fridge: both bowl and baking soda ended up in our new fridge! So all in all, I highly recommend this company. Moving is stressful enough without having to deal with scams and shady companies. PIck these guys and you won't be sorry. read more

We have used All Star twice now and have been very satisfied every time. Tom answers the phone and does a great job of explaining the services and trying to identify what your needs are. Two years ago they moved our entire apartment from Williamsburg to Park Slope. 3 guys did it in about 3 hours and we had a lot of stuff. Most of it was packed already, but they were very efficient in helping out with the rest. If you think you are going to move apartments in NYC for under $1000.00 you should probably try it yourself, rent a vehicle and pray your friends will work for pizza and beer. If not, I would call All Star and talk with them about your move. They are very reliable and experienced. They run a tight, friendly and hardworking crew. We had no damages, no hassles and everything arrived perfectly. You pay a minimum of three hours so factor that into your estimate. But all of there services are standard and comparable with other moving companies. All is full explained from the get go. The movers were really nice, friendly people. Who explained the process and listened to your needs. I just used them again to move me out of an office space and into a more traditional storage. 2 guys did about a 5x8 (size space) worth of stuff and did it in about 2 hours. These guys rocked! My $1000 (with tip) felt like a million. I picked them because of their solid reputation and insurance, even though they are on the pricier end of the scale. I moved a 1 BR w/ alcove that was jam-packed with stuff into a 2.5 BR, both on the 3rd floor, about 5 blocks apart. I really wanted to be completely packed, and I was nowhere near that. They rocked it with their wardrobe boxes, and I think the only casualty was a tiny suction cup and a box (just the box was damaged, not the contents). They arrived early and got to work immediately! 3 guys moved my chaos (including a fridge) in about 5 hours. They worked like horses and carried about the weight of a horse on their backs, well, except the fridge. That they all helped with. :) Fortunately a cap was set and even though the move took a few hours longer than expected, my wallet didn't suffer - so I tipped well (I think). My wife & I recently left NYC for Montclair, NJ. Of all the logistics of the move I lost the most sleep over the movers, given all of the horror stories I had heard about NYC movers. We got quotes from 3 different movers and Allstars was identical to one of the other companies, so we felt the price was fair. We were visited at home to get a Guaranteed Binding Estimate (you must get this) and to determine our exact needs. Nick, Tom & Brian in their office took good care of us. On the day of the move the 5 men we were promised showed up earlier than expected(!) and began to work like dogs for 4 straight hours. Derrick (sp?) and his crew were good guys. They sherpa-ed heavy boxes on their backs with moving straps. They provided 20 massive wardrobe boxes at no charge. These not only fit our clothes, but chairs, tables and ottomans too! All of our other furniture was carefully blanketed and Clive packed the truck with geometric expertise. Day 1 was was flawless and pain free. Everything we owned sat on Allstar's truck in their secure yard for 2 nights before it was delivered 2 mornings later. There was no charge for the storage, nor did they charge us to rent a truck to make up for ours being out of commission. Day 2 of the move, Derrick, Clive and Tim showed up earlier than I expected again (even called to say they were running late!?). In four hours, the truck was emptied. There was nary a scuff on the walls, nothing was broken and items were reassembled. The guys even made two attempts to get our box spring up the narrow staircase. At one point I witnessed Clive crawling backwards down stairs with a massive wardrobe box on his back, so as not to bump our walls. Just first class from start to finish. A job extremely well done. Needless to say, I was thrilled by the excellent work Allstar did for us. They shattered every negative stereotype I've heard about NYC movers. Fantastic and highly recommended. read more

All Star both packed me and moved me from Brooklyn to Jersey City. Richard, the owner, was my primary contact. They did such an excellent job. I'm very happy with them and will definitely be using them for my next move. The furniture was carefully moved and arranged. Everyone spoke English so it was easy to communicate where to put the furniture. They were exactly on time for both the packing and the move itself. They brought cones to block off the street when needed. They were 100% professional. They wore masks while both packing and moving. I couldn't believe how smoothly the whole thing went. My only negative comment would be that they used far too much paper when packing my stuff, even plastic. That's it. Everything else was perfect. This is a LOOONG overdue review, as All Star moved me a little over three years ago, but since I am contemplating another move, it got me to thinking about them and I realized I'd never written the review I'd intended. I spoke, at different times, to Rich and Nick, and I received a quote for packing up my entire loft and moving me from Jersey City, NJ to Syracuse, NY. The quote was broken down into it's components and every charge was explained to me (materials, labor, loading/unloading, transportation, etc) so I knew what I was paying for. Day of the move the crew arrived early in the morning and set to work packing everything into boxes (their packaging was excellent, and nothing was damaged in the move). They worked all day packing and loading into the truck, and as evening wore on, it looked like they might not be able to fit everything into the truck, so they called for a second truck to arrive and be on standby (they did end up getting everything into the single truck, with not a spare 3" left--master of Tetris). The next day they drove up to Syracuse where we met them on time, and they unloaded everything uneventfully. There were no surprises with the final cost, and I was extremely pleased and would not hesitate to use them again. read more

Definitely a "whoohoo!" These guys were the best! I hadn't even finished packing by the time they showed up, and was really nervous about it. They said, "No problem, " and that was that. Everything was packed and moved without complaint. Nothing was broken. I even found several pieces of gold jewelry that I'd forgotten about. I found my jewelry neatly, and safely packed away while unpacking. I wasn't surprised, though. The gentlemen who did the job were well mannered, and very kind. Upon reaching my destination, every box, and piece of furniture was quickly placed where I requested. They even grouped kitchen, clothing, etc..., which made unpacking that much easier. Needless to say, this is now my go-to moving company --quick, efficient, friendly, and accommodating. They were recommended by another great moving company on this site. Good call! Beyond, beyond. When FedEx had not delivered the keys for the move "guaranteed to arrive by 4.30 p.m." All Star Moving stayed late on a Friday to wait for the keys. All Star Moving was nothing short of phenomenal. They wrapped the furniture I thought I'd prepared even better than I had. They phoned when they had a question about whether to bring the window a/c. (I was already in the new location.) The driver checked in periodically during a cross-state move. The team worked hard and efficiently. Reliable and communicative and salt of the earth. Having moved maybe 15x in New York City ranging from renting a U-Haul to hiring a Man with a Van to various professional movers there is little doubt this was the best experience. All Star?
