    Fish and Fries
    Debora R.

We happened to catch them on a busy night, and it was so loud, it hurt our ears and gave me a headache. They were understaffed and the server was rushed. The fries were so salty I couldn't eat them. I had gotten the fish and chips, and portion size was great. Hubby got the chicken tenders and they were delicious. He loved the salt on the fries.

One star +, a low rating mostly due to the absence of service on a Monday night. Seriously. We sat at the bar and five people furiously working and not saying a word - no "hello we'll be right with you", or "give me a minute we are super busy". The only thing that is worse than a poor excuse is no excuse. The last thing I want when I'm tired after a long day of travel and wanting to quickly eat and go up to my room is to have to hunt someone down who is willing to take an order. Meanwhile, I had to navigate my elbows around dirty plates, glasses, utensils and a greasy counter that hadn't been cleaned. My compliments to the chef for the menu items which I thought were quite good. The chicken wings were crispy, but it came with no ranch and no hot sauce. We had to ask - twice before getting a small bottle of tobacco (no one ever gave me ranch dressing). Flatbread was well done, although I'll exclude the sweet balsamic drizzle next time. And the fries are excellent (if you wondered about the ketchup - no there was no ketchup and I was too tired to ask and re-ask for another condiment. So while the food is surprisingly good, service is very important to me - at least a very basic level needs to be present, so it outweighs the positives because it was so atrocious. The staff here clearly needs to be retrained. That's all

This place is beautiful and so happy it was open when I checked in at 10 pm! Tuesday night and I was greeted right away and ordered wings..burrata and brick chicken dinner and was so amazing! Beautiful decor in the restaurant and really happening place at the bar! Prices pricey but very worth it!

Slowest service ever. Chicken salad that looks like a biology experiment went wrong. Ate for 10 minutes, waited for 40.

Mya was our server and she went above and beyond. One of our kids ordered french toast, and somehow we missed that it was topped with a fruit compote. When Mya stopped by the table she immediately saw that my daughter was not happy and asked if she should put a new order in. We declined because we wanted our daughter to try it before she made up her mind, and learn from the experience. Mya came back again and could tell that there was no way this kid was going to eat the french toast. She insisted on putting another order in, saying "I just want her to be happy", and it was clear that she truly meant it. Thank you for a wonderful breakfast - we will be back frequently!

I was a little disappointed initially to be seated at the short bar as it makes me feel like I'm in elementary school due to the height, but this was a busy Saturday morning so I understood as it seems there are limited 2-tops, etc and this visit was at peak hours. It was nice to see the daylight coming through the windows which also made this a relaxing venue. While I was sitting there I was able to observe a lot as the short bar is next to the case displaying many delicious treats. I really laughed to myself as I noticed a couple of future Yelper's (one was 2-year toddler and his probably 4-5 year old sister (possibly celebrating a birthday) make a prompt trip to checkout the dessert offerings first! They were obviously "regulars". I was greeted by one of the wait staff, Mya, who was friendly, served me a coffee and indicated my server would be with me soon. I appreciated seeing the teamwork among the staff. I was eventually served by Owen who was helpful and I ordered an egg white frittata which came with a side of mixed fresh fruit. While I was waiting on my food, I had a vantage point where I could see several entrees come out. I also witnessed one of the two Chefs smiling as he was looking at and preparing the orders which I found interesting. The frittata included spinach, tomatoes, goat cheese, apple chicken sausage, and was delicious. I was still a little hungry, so I realized the future Yelpers mentioned earlier had it right, and I ordered a carrot cake cupcake which Owen mentioned was a good choice. The frosting was delicious and the moist carrot cake was tasty as well. The overall restaurant was hustling and bustling on this morning, I had my coffee cup refilled multiple times and even noticed additional children observing the case with the desserts. I enjoyed the overall experience and did not feel rushed at all, but more like a customer!

The dish was generally good though a few bites had an odd almost sour taste that threw me off. I asked whether the orange juice was fresh and I was told it was it's just not squeezed in-house. Supposedly it comes from a place that presses it for them. If they're really paying someone to deliver "fresh" juice they're not getting their money's worth because what I was served tasted exactly like carton OJ. Service was inconsistent some staff were warm while others felt noticeably cold. The restaurant itself is decorated in a very eclectic way with trinkets scattered throughout. I don't think I'll go back and I'm not sure I recommend this place to others.

Waze was instrumental in finding this hidden gem as it's tucked behind a fairly blah stretch of Orchard Lake Road. Turn down what is basically a residential street and Sylvan Table appears like a rustic Phoenix! TS saw my eyes light up as I soaked it all in. The owners have moved an antique Maine barn to Sylvan Lake Michigan and created a beautiful (if a bit barren and cold in December) oasis. The inside is as inviting as the outside with a beautiful space buzzing with activity on a cold December night. A Roaring fireplace and beautiful Christmas decor set the stage for a wonderful evening. We were seated upstairs at a nice corner table and the super friendly server was there in a flash to take our drink order. I had my usual, Grey Goose Martini on the rocks with bco's, TS opted for a house Pinot Grigio. Both hit the spot taking the chill off and were delicious. Our server went over some specials, and the menu had a varied selection of great sounding entrees. We started with a charcuterie board with their own house made crackers, cheeses and meats including a decadent pate'. And as an added bonus we were brought a few roasted brussel sprouts with cranberry chutney, fantastic! For our main course TS opted for the pork chop with root vegetables and I had the roasted chicken with the same sides. Both were delicious and juicy being cooked over a wood fire! Now Sylvan Table is a farm to table restaurant which could be daunting on a long cold Michigan winter. And part of the farm must be on their 5 acres. I bet those root vegetables were picked and stored on site for use all winter just like an old timey farm. Ee ate like we hadca tip on a famine and washed it down with a big bold red. But there was still room for more. For dessert we split a slice of Buche Noel and some coffee. The dessert was a work of art. As we made our way out we realized we were the last ones there. So after a picture in front of the Christmas tree we were gone. All in a magical experience with food, service and ambiance that can't be beat. And the company, well that goes without saying! So try out ST before everyone finds out about it! Sylvan by name..sylvan by nature. Sylvan Table...Go!
