We've frequent this place quite often. Our visit this time really shocked us and wondered if anyone seen or noticed this. Three-Four stars for server--First off the host and wait staff were great as always. Food.....Crispy Bacon can't go wrong with that but the Banana Foster French Toast was rather disappointing???? What happened to the Bananas??? the French toast flavored with bananas does not qualify for banana foster that we used to see The smoked salmon and crab on toasted bagel presentation was really messy sure felt like they just slapped the food on the plate and off you go!!!??? In the midst of our meal the host was cleaning up the the to our left, nice team work, but we witnessed her poured the half drank glass of water back into the glass bottle water!?? I placed the order for pick up on door dash and walked over and ate across the street at the downtown park since it was a nice sunny day and since I had my puppy with me and he can be a bit crazy at times I got the spicy chicken sandwich with truffle fries, and sliced pork Mac and cheese as well. The chicken filet for the sandwich was huge! Very juicy and tender; was not spicy at all and was more on the sweeter side. The truffle fries was great as well, they added 3 side sauces for the fries, I wish I knew the names for it since one of sauces was my favorite. Added soft boiled egg. Kids Mac and cheese was pretty good. Pretty standard Eggs Benedict with pork belly was a little bit of a let down. I don't think pork belly pairs well because it's too soft and doesn't provide a crunchy or firm texture balance to the egg/sauce-y English muffin. Potatoes were also a little burnt tasting. Our family of 4 (kids are 12 and 14) came here on a Friday night. We were able to get parking just a block away and were seated right on time for our reservation. We ordered the Scotch eggs, chicken liver mousse, garlic wings, Mac and cheese, soup de jour, New York steak, brisket gnocchi and kale Caesar, plus drinks. The top dishes were the scotch eggs, New York steak and garlic wings. The rest of the dishes were really good but those stood out. Service was great- attentive but not overbearing. Food came out really quickly and we just had a really great time! It was busy inside but not too crowded and they kept the temperature just right so it was very comfortable. We went for a quick dinner. Definitely quick service but we hit it before the rush hour, so be aware it may take longer later into the night. Went with a friend who was visiting Seattle. Clean and open ambiance was only positive thing about our lunch. Unfortunately, almost everything we ordered wasn't good in one way or other. Bloody mary (not pictured) blend and lack spicy flavor. Spicy chicken sandwich has a kick and it is actually pretty spicy! We liked the fries. Crab cake was good but I didnt care for the sauce that came with. Bacon brussels sprouts was nicely roasted with perfect texture (not too crunch or mussy) but too sweet for cajun spiced. Came here on a whim on a Sunday morning looking for a brunch as big as my head and I got it here. My friend and I were starving and the Woodblock looked interesting. With a line of people waiting for a table in the last two hours the restaurant was open we looked at the largely vacant bar and sat there. Bar seating is open to everyone. Our bartender was a lady who I found myself liking immediately. She wasn't overly enthusiastic or cheery but she still cared - it was just more subtle than most. And wow was she busy! Order after order of Bloody Marys one after another the entire time there. I asked her to make whatever she wanted - an actual menu option - and she made what was pictured here, a passion fruit vodka drink with orange juice. It was nice, refreshing, and a perfect afternoon cocktail. I ordered the sausage and gravy plus chicken. My friend took my eggs, he ordered Scotch eggs, and he ordered eggs benedict. When the food arrived he realized he ordered way too much but on the plus side he had leftovers for two meals. He said he loved everything. I also loved everything. The chicken was juicy, the buttermilk batter fantastic, and the gravy and biscuits were wonderful. I ate everything but then didn't eat anything else for the day because I was so stuffed. HH DRINKS: LOST IN TIJUANA ($12): I'm Mexican, so I loved the combo of salty-spicy-sour and tequila. GINGER CITRIS ($12): There's both a non-alcoholic and low ABV option. Refreshing, slightly spicy. ENDLESS SUNSHINE ($9): Classy, strong, but I'd say this drink is a better fit for a dim speakeasy than a sunshine-y day. Similar to gin fizz or monk's muse. Felt smaller for price. HH FOOD: TRUFFLE PARMESAN FRIES ($8): Perfectly fried, although the accompanying sauces are the real MVPs here. GARLIC WINGS ($8): Again, perfectly fried wings and potatoes. So I debated on whether to give this a 4 star or 5 and ultimately decided on 5! I love, love everything about this restaurant. I have not had a bad meal there the 6 times I've dined there. Their brunch items are excellent and would put Portage Bay to shame but I guess that really isn't a fair comparison. The food is reasonably discounted, the options are good, and the food is just as yummy as any other time. I believe it's 3 to 5pm. The Food: HH Brussels Sprouts - $6 HH Falafel Bites - $6 HH Fries with 3 dipping sauces - $6 HH Octopus - $14 I love octopus, and theirs is perfectly grilled, mixed with cucumbers, and wonderfully seasoned. The seasoned tortilla chips are yum too. The falafel bites are so perfectly fried, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside. Their dipping sauces are excellent! The brussels sprouts are sinfully delicious - fried and with bacon. The fries are a winner with the extra tipping sauces. Two girlfriends munching on these didn't finish, with a portion left for my hubby. What a deal! The service was swift and easy. There is typically street parking within a reasonable distance. The breakfast tacos (minus chorizo) and potatoes are really good and the impossible burger with their truffle fries are to die for. Stopped by for lunch, it was the weekend and they were serving brunch, decided on the burger, which has been a staple and reliable for years! The pork belly was included years ago; it is now a $4 add on. The burger is now $22 with fries. It looks like 1/3 of a pound to me, quite small on the bun. Ordered medium rare, received well done maybe medium well if making a generous call. Service was spotty, one other customer at bar and the bartender seemed challenged to me and did not check on our food order. I know it has been tough since Covid but price should match quality and imo Woodblock failed the quality to price test! On the plus side, it still is a nice bright setting. read more

My mom and I were running errands and decided to stop here for brunch. The staff were friendly, and we were able to be seated here right away. I liked the interior and the variety of people dining. My mom ordered a fried chicken sandwich, and she felt like it was over cooked and the bread was soggy. She got a side salad and felt that it was nothing to write home about. I ordered chicken wings and tomato soup. The waiter had to confirm that the food items I ordered were prepared gluten free. The wings were so-so. I wasn't that big of a fan of the sauce. It had a huge corn syrup taste for some reason. I had maybe 2 or 3, and I couldn't finish them. I didn't even want to take the leftovers home. The tomato soup was good though! A few years and a pandemic later, we came back for brunch specifically because I wanted the scotch egg. There's outdoor dining, great service, food was fine. It cold and raining when we came, and the area under their tent was cozy, as the tent had 3 sides (but only one opening for air flow). There are also heat lamps. Not many people were using the outdoor dining when we were there on a Sunday morning. My wife ordered the Croque Madame, and I got a scotch egg and the banana foster bread pudding. The croque madame was HUGE and looked good, but I didn't try any. The first scotch egg I got had a yolk that was a little more cooked than I wanted, but it was still good. Nice thin sausage layer with a good crispy outside. But about halfway through eating the egg, I saw a long, curly light blonde hair embedded in the sausage layer. I'm not normally a person to send food back, but I didn't want to finish that egg anymore AND I did still want my scotch egg! Because it was half my planned breakfast. We talked to the waiter, who was very nice and didn't make me feel awkward at all. He brought out another scotch egg and this one was perfect. The yolk was jammy, the sausage was solid, etc etc. When it came time to pay, they didn't charge us for the egg, which I thought was very considerate. As for the banana foster bread pudding: it wasn't as good as I remembered. I was expecting a warm(ish) bread pudding, but it was cold and dense and heavy. There wasn't a lot of contrast between the ice cream and the bread pudding temperature wise, and there was no pop of flavors. Maybe more salt needed? And more of a banana flavor. If I hadn't seen banana written on the menu I would not have known. Still, I appreciate the service, the warm seating area, the reasonable prices, and my wife enjoyed her food. read more

It's about as O.K. as the name suggests. Not terrible, not great, just serviceable. The menu is fairly standard American faire with an air of just being slightly more sophisticated, an impression that carries on in the presentation of the food; everything looks good and the service is very pleasant. But it's absolutely one of those places where you start with a feeling of "hey this is pretty good" and end with "hmmm, that was kind of bland". I had their chorizo tacos which were O.K. enough and my partner had the steak sandwich which was equally unmemorable save the distinct truffle oil smell emanating from the meal. We did also have a scotch egg which was a surprising highlight to the meal as I usually am not a fan of them but here they weren't bad at all. After the meal I had a distinct regret of not traveling the distance to Barking Frog but I could see have a bite here if I lived very close by. read more

The garnishes improved it and the salad it comes with was amazing. What i didn't like was the rush they impose when you ask to sit on a dining table. The food is very mediocre and always served lukewarm by a passive-aggressive server, service is average at best, and the staff treats the place like their office. Upon checking in for our obscenely early reservation we were snapped at by the hostess that we only had our table for two hours. I thought this a tad jarring and unnecessary considering we don't camp out in restaurants, and then proceeded to listen to her talk to others as they arrived only to find she did not tell them the same. Not sure what made us the target of this message, but it was not appreciated. I think she got the message as when we were leaving she was sickenly sweet. The food was...meh. The truffle fries were amazing, the brussels sprouts were covered in a sauce that didn't have flavor and could have been left off all together to make it taste better. The Bolognese lacked flavor, the mac and cheese was mid, the garlic honey wings a bit greasy, and the Woodblock burger had a hard piece in it that was offputting and stopped my wife in her tracks while eating (maybe bone? maybe not? It was pulled out and left on the plate for them to identify). It was mentioned to the staff and they appropriately handled the situation by comping the meal and bringing dessert - which was the star of the meal. Came for their weekend brunch and in one word: underwhelming. Hot chocolate was a packet mix made with water. No whip cream, no sprinkles, no pizazz My over medium eggs had zero salt and zero pepper. That's okay, perhaps they didn't want to present with too much of either, but I had to ask for salt and pepper and got a couple containers of each spice (is that not a normal request at a restaurant?) to pinch and sprinkle. I used to say you can't really mess up breakfast, but from my hot chocolate to my mama's breakfast... I left preferring to stop drinking and eating it even though I came in and left hungry. We also ordered a chicken sandwich minus the onions which came wrong (onions still included) so they had to remake. I always want to like this place because I live nearby and want to support local but every time I go here I feel like the employees always have attitude and act like I'm causing them such an inconvenience by dining here. It always makes me feel uncomfortable like they can't wait till we all leave.
