Coming from locations like Jersey City, Hoboken and Montclair, wood Stack was a call back home. The ambiance of pseudo hipster with a family feel is comfortable and trendy all at once. We are short rib rice balls, the meatballs over polenta, and the peppa pig pizza. My wife had the wine while I enjoyed a cocktail and our 1 year old was welcomed by the staff. Went there for lunch. the salad section is very poor. Had a kale salad with a shaving of a hard boiled egg and that was it! I think they should at least offer grilled chicken or shrimp. The burgers and pizza looked good so I would try this again but would not have a salad for sure. read more

This place is amazing! We went there for dinner on a Sunday night and it was just about filled to capacity. The decor is very modern and very beautiful. We were with my 11m old baby. The staff were so sweet to her and were very accommodating with out stroller. This place is surprisingly baby-friendly. We had the crostini to start with. The portion was a bit small but very tasty and unique. Nothing like I've ever had before. The margarita pizza was DELICIOUS! would definitely go back just for that. Nice cocktail and beer options. I don't always give a five star review but I really think this restaurant nailed it. This is an upscale cheers bar where I'm convinced everybody will know your name. We actually returned two times this past weekend. Service was excellent. We had the wood fired olives, the woodfired octopus and different pizzas all which were excellent. If you are the type of person who likes dipping bread in extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar make sure you oroder a loaf to go and order it early. It will last a few days and blow your friends and family away. You can't beat the valet parking for a dollar. There's something off about this place. My husband and I cannot put our fingers on it though. We're not going to be surprised if the place suddenly says "for lease" on it---let's leave it at that. Hopefully our intuitions are wrong! The Food: 1. Drinks: the Jalapeño Sangria is DELICIOUS! I have never seen that on a drink menu before--that was awesome. 2. Appetizers: We had the Charred Octopus and the Rice Balls. Both were great. I especially like the marinara sauce--it has a very rich taste like it's been simmering all day. 3. Pizzas: Mexican and Bader Sting. We thought they were just ok. My husband is not a food at all, and he said he's rather save money and have Blaze in the Willowbrook Mall. I personally think the dough has a great texture....as does the homemade bread that is brought to the table. 4. Dessert: Flourless Chocolate Cake and Maple Caramel Custard. We loved both. Now for what I saw around me..the table next to me got pizzas before their drinks. The table to the other side of us got their pizzas while still eating appetizers. I stumbled upon Wood Stack driving on RT 46 one day and I am very glad I did. This place is fantastic. The ambiance is great, (Nice bar, lighting, spread out and not too loud, etc) the service is above and beyond (I have been here two times already and had Angelo both time. The best) and the food is just perfect. Both times we started with either the meatballs or the sausage and peppers and then I went pizza. The pizza is great. My sons went pasta and finished every last morsel on the plate. I highly recommend this place. read more

I went for my birthday dinner with family. I will give it one star- because if this was solely based on food, it was pretty good. I went for my birthday. I could tell they were sort of rushing my experience along, but didn't know why. About the time we were about to sing "Happy Birthday" I heard the manager, Gerardo, say to our waiter "I don't give a crap" as he looked right at our table. Then, the second we were done singing, Gerrardo came over and said "you have to move your table." I was just about to cut the cake. He didn't say please. He didn't offer a kind explanation, nor was he apologetic about asking us to move. We were told to just move your table, I have a party coming in." We were a decent sized party - 10 of us, with 4 children set up and sitting nicely. We had cake and presents and coffee. But we were expected to "move." If I could somehow get the manager's tone and attitude through in this response you would know that he was incredibly rude. To say he ruined the birthday experience is an understatement- and he really didn't care. Not to mention, my reservation was at 6. This occurred at 7:10. We had been there just an hour. It's not like we were sitting at the table for hours. I will be contacting the owner about this. No one should be treated this way. Don't trust this place with any important events. read more

My family and I are pizza enthusiasts and we all thought the pizza was delicious..the dough was light and crispy..sauce tasted very authentic. The rice balls were really good too. We have been to many "famous" brick oven places (NYT top 10 pizza) and this ranked among the best for us! It may be our new favorite! read more

Last evening, a met a buddy at Wood Stack for an early dinner. I arrived before the valet guys did so I was able to park myself in their lot; otherwise, valet is required, only because of the odd shape of the parking lot. Although we had a reservation, we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender-turned-waiter was helpful and responsive, so no real service issues. For the first time, I was following a special low-fat diet and needed special preparation of the salmon I had ordered. My friend also ordered the salmon, prepared as described on the menu. I also asked for some grilled brussel sprouts on the "crispy" side. My friend's salmon, according to him, was great. Mine, although ordered "cooked through", was mushy and unappetizing. The sprouts were boiled and also mushy, although somewhat flavorful. I didn't complain, only because the bartender was busy and by the time I decided I wasn't happy with the meal, I had eaten half of it. The atmosphere at Wood Stack is great, and at a later date, I will go back to try the pizza and pasta in the future, since others have spoken positively about them. read more

We hosted a Sweet 16 birthday party at Wood Stack last week for about 30 people of all ages. It was our second time at Wood Stack. They have a decent size party room with a screen for videos and music that they allow patrons to hook up. Everyone had a fantastic time enjoying not only the ambiance but also the wonderful pizzas and the great selection of local beers. The team from Jose, Charlie, Gary to the rest of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, ensuring that everything was in order. Being vegetarian, there were no issues as Wood Stack has a great selection of items that caters to that need. I highly recommend the restaurant and we will certainly be visiting again. read more

Went with family on wed night. It was not crowded and got seated in the back near a blasting speaker of music that typically gets played in a teen mall. After asking twice they finally turned it down. The waiter never asked if we wanted a drink even though they have a great bar. As an owner I would be embarrassed especially based on the cost of a liquor license. In addition we asked for water twice and it never came. The food was great but the service the worst I have seen in a very long time at any restaurant. Order the pizzas and the farfadelli pasta. Pls fix the service and train the wait staff or it will be an embarrassing end to good food. read more

Went on a Friday night with some friends. I went for the pizza with sausage onions and jalapeño it was very tasty! Also had the olive appy and the three bruschettas. Both were good. The bread was wonderful and the atmosphere was really nice. There was about a 1/2 wait but it was a crowded Friday night so we took a seat by the bar. I too was hesitant to try this place based on other reviews, but it was a surprise party and I had no choice! The valet wasn't bad - we mentioned to them about the horrendous previous service and they said it was a new company and they would do great. Ok. We arrived for a table of 7 on a Friday night. They don't take reservations, but there were empty tables. We were sat in a corner - perfect! The decor of the place is spot on! Looks like a restaurant you'd be seated at in the city. Very modern and updated. It did take a little while for the waitress to acknowledge us, but once she did, she was ok. The bread - it was ok, nothing special to rave about for being baked on premise. The outside was tough and the inside was soft and chewy - good. The butter came nicely melted as the bread wasn't warm when we received it. We ordered two bibb salads. Again, prices were a little high for the size of the plate and what was on it. On to the food - the pizzas were good. Crispy on the outside, not burnt on the bottom, as I was afraid it might be. They were good. However like the previous reviewer said, they are expensive! We had the pancetta/arugula one, which was $17! For a small little pie!! And there was hardly any pancetta on it, maybe three slices for the whole pie. The margarita pizza was good. A little thin in the crust due to the sauce so when you picked it up it mushed. But the sauce was tasty. The last pie was the Winter Fell - with brisket and bbq sauce. They said it was good, but I can't speak for that as I didn't have any. Now dinner. We ordered a few of the full size pastas to share. For full size and for the price, I think they were a little on the small side. I ordered the buccatelli. The pasta was nicely cooked and tasted delicious! Out of the four dishes that we had, I think this was my favorite. The sauce was tasty, not too spicy. Couldn't even tell that they had their version of bacon in it - I can't remember what the name of it was. Not a lot of it was there. The papparadelle bolognese tasted slightly burnt. Wasn't what I expected - a pile of sauce dumped in the middle of the pasta. The fettuccine with the cream sauce was decent - not too heavy on the cream - it was nice and light. And lastly we ordered the pasta with the eggplant. The pasta itself was good, but the sauce was nothing to write home about. I honestly wouldn't go back - not for lack of wanting to, but I feel for the prices - of the food and drinks - that the service and food should be superb, not just ok. read more

Totally disappointed in the quality of the food and the ridiculously over the top prices. The pizza is just not up to par, and to charge up to $17 for a small personal pizza is a complete rip off. Ordered grandma pizza and beer salad to pick up. $39 for two personal pies and a salad. Grandma was thin crust and had fresh mozzarella, light tomato sauce and drizzled pesto. Basically is a margarita without basil. Beet salad was small and had huge chunks of fresh beets and hardly anything else. Atmosphere had modern decor. Friendly and prompt valet were outside. Friendly hostess greeted me. Issue with my husband's pizza and staff easily rectified the issue. This place good if you want to go for a cocktail and some thin crust pizza. read more

Went this past Saturday, 2/27/2016 First, valet for pizza--really? Then, the hostess...there were two in my party (celebrating a milestone bday) the hostess snapped TWO?? There is a 40 minute wait you can stand at the bar and eat there. Well, seeing how the seats are hard metal or a wooden bench (similar to a church bench but no backing...standing is the better option). Now let's get to the food; the pizza was burnt (my mouth STILL hurts) around the edges but the middle of BOTH pizzas was raw!!! My mouth today, Monday still hurts!! The waiter was equally as rude as the hostess...he inflated our bill like others commented to make two pizzas and 4 drinks come to $82.39 the best part was I gave him $85.00 and HE KEPT didn't even offer...the change back. So guess what--that was his tip. RIDICULOUS place will NEVER EVER GO back or recommend. The ambience is wood so I guess it is the wood SHACK...dump! I am writing them directly to let them know how rude the waiter especially was...I know this is Pine Brook but its not Rails come on!!!! PIZZA--$82 for two mini pies & 4 drinks...asking for bottom shelf and btw ignored the birthday all together. JERK!!!! read more

My fiancé and I had our engagement party here over the weekend and it by far exceeded all of our expectations!! We are locals here for date night just about every weekend so having our party here was a no brainer. The food was excellent the staff is excellent and the atmosphere is wonderful it has a rustic look and feel and the whole environment makes you feel so welcome. We chose the family style dinner and let me say that every single person went home STUFFED!!! I have family and friends calling me still raving about the party and how excellent the food was. Ok this is a 1 star review, but to start out I'll talk about the positives. The place has excellent modern decor, and our waiter was very good. We also had an excellent cheesy meatball appetizer. This is about all I can say good about this place. They are trying to position themselves as a fancy/highend pizza place. I think they even had valet parking which I declined of course. Even though it looks good inside, the interior isn't that well designed. It's extremely loud and full of reflective angles and surfaces. I've actually never experienced a restaurant that amplified the sound of other tables so effectively. They need some acoustic matting on the walls/ceilings. Sure this is a minor complaint, but it was noticable. Another complaint about their faux fancy image is that they put the terribly chlorinated local tap water in a fancy flask for the table. I'll begrudgingly accept this from an Indian buffet, but a place that's trying to be upscale? Nope. I live in Parsippany and I know our tap water tastes horrible. I filter it. I appreciate it when local restaurants filter out the nasty taste. The Food: My girlfriend ordered a pizza and I ordered a calzone. The waiter warned us that they cook with wood and the pizza comes out "very crispy". That sounded fine and didn't prepare us for the horror that awaited us. Our pizza was was burnt all around as was my calzone. Now someone might argue "it's supposed to be like that," but I take issue with that. Burnt pizza dough does *not* taste good at all. It's horrible and overpowering. We looked around at other tables and saw *every* pizza was similarly burnt. I can actually tolerate some burnt spots on my pizza pretty well, but this had black almost all around. I'll post some pictures of our leftovers (which will probably be thrown out). It was clear from walking around looking at everyone's food that this is the norm here. Besides the bunt pizza, my calzone was full of pretty low quality sausage oddly cut into catfood sized chunks. What they're trying to do is make a unique kind of pizza with wood fire; but they haven't cracked the "burnt outside" problem at all. This place should fail. Their concept is crap and their food is terrible.They need to learn how to consistently not burn their pizza or they will go out of business once the "newness" fades. When you position your place as highend/upscale, we should be able to expect more from you. That said, even if this place was a cheap hole in the wall, I would still give it 1 star. Inedible.
