Checked out this newer spot in the Korean plaza and was excited to give it a try. The ambiance and service were top notch. I loved the décor and how cozy it felt inside. The marinated pork ribs were solid, but I was hoping for a little more char and deeper flavor. Still good, just not quite what I expected. I'd probably go for the galbi next time. Overall, a great experience and definitely worth trying

We came by around 2 p.m. for a late lunch, and it was about half full. The space is huge with tons of seating, is super bright inside, and was decked out with festive holiday decorations. Ordering is fully digital via tablet (but they still have physical menus). There's zero cell service inside, but they're smart about it and have WiFi info posted at the entrance and along the walls. We ordered the leek pancake, pork soup with Korean sausage, and spicy pig's feet. Everything came out within minutes, and each entrée came with a bowl of purple rice. The banchan were really good, with the kimchi daikon being my favorite. You can ask for refills. The Korean sausage was great, not too heavy on the blood flavor. The leek pancake was simple and light (basically leek + egg). The spicy pig's feet were excellent -- very spicy, tender, flavorful, and even had tteokbokki mixed in. They really love leeks here and use them as a topping on everything. For payment - since you don't have a designated server, you either tap the "call staff" button on the tablet or walk up to the service desk to pay. Overall, a solid spot if you're craving pork-heavy Korean comfort food.

Went back with some coworkers. Everyone loved it! The service is so efficient yet kind here and the atmosphere is clean and bright. I ordered the same thing again (pork gukbap and blood sausage to share with my partner). They gave us a pancake on the house and it was piping hot and delicious. My partner got the brisket soup (not pictured) and he liked it but he liked the spicy beef noodle soup more. Next time we come back I want to get the chicken. It looks tasty and others have given glowing reviews. I'll be back soon!

I love a good pork soup and was looking forward to trying this new establishment. Our large party came at 11 am on Sunday, and the restaurant was already super packed. The restaurant was clean and spacious. The waiter was nice brought us water quickly. The pork soup was very hearty with a flavorful, rich broth and a generous amount of pork slices. The cold noodles were delicious with perfectly chewy buckwheat noodles and the portion was huge! The broth had a strong, tasty flavor that really hit the spot. Perfect for a warm day! One strange thing was that an order of cold noodles ended up coming out 20 minutes after everyone else's. The waiter was apologetic and we had to follow up several times, and by the time we received the last dish most of us were done eating. My diagnosis: Solid Korean restaurant with excellent pork soup and cold buckwheat noodles; I highly recommend you try it out.

Great place for Korean soup, but warning, DON'T ORDER THE JANGTEO GUKBAP! It was delicious, but there was barely any beef in my food . Unless you're ok with eating mostly vegetables in your soup with a few sprinkle of beef, order something else. That's why I deducted a star. On an evening during the weekend, it's really busy, so if you're on the waitlist, look at the menu ahead of time so that when you have a table, you can immediately order on the tablet and wait less for your food.

I met up with a friend to try out Wonjo Busan Gukbap, the newest Korean restaurant that opened in koreatown Carrollton. The chef of this place used to work at 2 popular Korean restaurants in koreatown in LA: hangari kalguksu and jinsol gukbap. We came for lunch on a weekday and this place was packed to the brim. It felt like every Korean person in Dallas was here. Luckily, we did not have to wait long on the wait list at all. They are known for their signature Gukbap, which is especially known from the Busan region. I ordered the regular Gukbap with soondae and my friend for the gukbap by itself. I originally wanted the jangteo Gukbap spicy beef soup but it was sold out. It comes with a side of rice, a risotto like appetizer that I can't really describe, a plate of chives, rice noodles, and banchan. The gukbap has a pork broth with green onions, pork belly, and a ball of spicy bean paste that you mix in. It was really light and soothing. They have some items available to add to your soup to season it more. You can either eat the soondae by itself or mix it in with your soup. It's basically just a very chewy sausage, I don't think it's for me personally. There are not that many banchan options but they are pretty good quality. Overall, this is a pretty solid spot for some Korean food

We got the pork soups and it was okay. The soup was clean cut and definitely cooked without any porky smell. There were also a lot of meat pieces. I was a little disappointed by the lack of flavor/depth overall. They put the chili paste already in the soup but recommended we add salt/pepper to our taste. I felt like I had to add a lot of shrimp soy sauce with the salt and pepper to add to the flavor/taste of the soup and side dishes. The kimchi was also slightly disappointing. It looked so flavorful and delicious but definitely lacked the fish sauce depth. If it was freshly just made kimchi, I would recommend adding sesame oil to add some more flavor. Overall pretty bland taste in the meal. I would say the best part about our meal was the barley rice as an added appetizer. That was a creative idea and definitely was delicious despite the simple ingredients. We were able to order on the ipads which are attached to each table. You can place orders on the ipads and request for other items including the bill. This is a great concept which reminds me a lot of Korea. The lady who served our food was very sweet as she explained which items went in the soup. The spoons and napkins are also located on the side of the table which is also another concept from Korea. Not a bad place to visit if you want to experience a true Korean restaurant.

Beef short rib soup with napa, leek pancake, pork belly slices

The restaurant is so unassuming from the outside but once you step in, it feels like a different place entirely! The restaurant is large with ample seating and its also connected to the establishment next door. Waitstaff is friendly and explained the cutlery in the table immediately before walking away. We were so excited that we ended up ordering the leek pancake, pork belly slice, and beef short ribs soup with napa. Everything came out so good. The leek pancake was crispy and paired well with its sauce. The pork belly slices came in a broth over a burner and samjang with onion and jalapeño slices, everything paired so well with the purple rice and ban chans. The beef short ribs soup was so packed with napa and 2 short ribs along with bean sprouts that with rice, was so comforting. The ban chans were fantastic and the entrees were as well. I would definitely return!

Service is absolutely horrible, and staff does not care that they have a crowd of people waiting at the front to be seated. They don't come up to you to let you know what the wait time is, and they will walk by without as much of a glance in your direction. This was how everyone at the front was treated for almost 40 minutes, and my friend and I didn't even know there was a paper waitlist until we were pushed closer to the front. I will say that their food is good, but we waited almost another 20 minutes for our food to arrive. I love their noodles, and their side dishes and kimchi are quite good. I hope service gets better because the food genuinely is good, but most of our experience was negative given how everyone was treated.

New gukbap restaurant in Dallas! They took over sorimmara and renovated the space. Super huge and cute interior. You order everything from the iPad but there are still servers walking around if you need help We ordered the leek pancake to start and it was amazing. Tiny pieces of octopus inside and the taste was spot on. I ordered the jangteo gukbap and the beef was super tender and the soup had a slight kick. I added a little more salt and salted shrimp (on each table) for a little more flavor. My bf got the shredded beef brisket soup and that was good too. The side dishes complimented the soups well and the food was brought out very fast. Highly recommend especially since fall is coming up. Soup weather!

Wonjo Busan Gukbap (원조 부산 국밥) - Carrollton, Texas Born in Busan, I grew up with parent and relatives who were naturally more inclined toward Busan culture, which includes food as one part of it. Often time I visit Busan, I had a cousin who took me to different gukbap restaurants, where one I had last time was amazing. Thus, when I learned that this newly opened place in Carrollton, Texas, taking over the previous Sorim Mala (소림마라)'s location, is going to be a Busan gukbap place, I gotta try out. And I often have a habit of trying many different places by myself before recommending the place to my friends and my family, because my mom and my older sis are quite picky about places. My first impression was that the place is quite huge, which was expected because the place was originally designed to be huge. I came little late after a typical lunch time around 1 pm, so the customers are probably not so crowded than usual. The service was excellent, and everything looked clean, maybe so because it is a new restaurant. The food came out quickly, which took about 10 minutes or less. The food was quite delicious, though I have to try other items over time to judge that it is really good. Only maybe slightly negative thing is that the price is little on a rather expensive side, compared to some other cheaper alternatives available for same gukbap. But given the service quality, atmosphere, and many different banchan (반찬) - side dishes that were given, I think this will be a place that I will visit again.

    Decent price, great food!

Heard good things so came to try. The decor is minimalist utilitarian, but the ambiance is lively as they were bustling with patrons. It was busy even for a Sat late lunch, we had a short wait, but only maybe 5-10 mins. But it did not disappoint, it was so good! Their kimchi was delicious; I could eat just that with rice. I wonder if they sell their own kimchi? The Leek Pancake was really good, came out hot. The Pork Soup was not bad, but the Beef Short Rib with Napa was excellent, the soup was so flavorful. Will come back just for that. The table kiosk tablet is pretty convenient to place your food order, call staff or ask for bill. Our server was friendly and efficient.

Bone Broth Soup and Spicy Cold Noodles + Beef Short Rib

My friend and I decided to check out Wonjo Busan Gukbap after seeing that this restaurant replaced the previous tenant that we frequented. We went here around 11:30am and beat the lunch rush. We were immediately sat but it took a while before someone took our order. It looked like most tables had a tablet to order from but ours didn't have one. We ordered the bone broth and spicy cold noodle combo with beef short rib. The banchan was also nice here, I enjoyed the barley rice (not pictured) and various kimchis. The bone broth was hearty and light. We were a little confused why it turned red when we mixed it, but after reading the other reviews it seems like there's spicy bean paste at the bottom which makes it red. The spicy cold noodles were a bit different than other spicy cold noodles I've had in the sense that the ones here were very saucy and spicy. The flavor was great but it felt a bit heavy and I got a little tired of it after a while. The beef short rib was well marinated and juicy, it was the best item I had in this visit. I also wanted to note that the interior of this restaurant is a complete 180° from the previous tenant. They did a wonderful job transforming the place and the place seems lively.

Came here from a post on social media with high hopes. Ordered our food at the kiosk and took a seat. Later an employee came over to inform me they were sold out of something I ordered and let me choose something else. This is fine and not a part of my negative review - it happens - I chose the beef noodle soup, extra spicy, with marinated egg. The cucumber salad we ordered was lacking any and all seasoning. Sadly I make a version of this salad at home, Chinese style, and it is way more flavorful. They didn't let the cucumbers soak in salt beforehand, so they were completely flavorless. Even after adding soy sauce it still didn't save it. Normally the wife and I finish the cucumber salad at other places we order it from, but we didn't even finish this one. When our soup arrived it was extremely oily. Basically mostly oil it seemed, you can see it coating and clinging to the entire spoon. Complely unappealing. I'm not sure if this is something particular to this style/region of a Chinese food or what, but I couldn't eat it. Even worse than the oil issue however, was that the meat in the soup was completely inedible! Literally each piece was either 95% ligament or fat and was just chewy and wouldn't even break down. I kid you not there was maybe a nibble of tender edible meat in the entire bowl of soup. And I don't say this lightly, I'm not a picky eater and generally try to find the positive in food. To top it off, I didn't even get the right kind of egg I ordered in my soup. I wonder if they gave me someone else's order. Either way, it was terrible. Ended up leaving almost the entire soup, even though I was starving. As for positives, the egg noodles in the soup were okay. That's all I can give it. Also, the soup dumplings were delicious. However, given the disappointment in the rest of the food here, we will not be coming back just for soup dumplings. Sadly, this was a huge let down. No wonder it was so empty.
