He stood up to leave and they cursed at him and pushed him and basically tried to throw him out the door. The police were called and the employees turned the lights off and hid in the back while the police pounded on the door. The police also said they've had a few calls to this place regarding similar situations. I tried calling and speaking to a manager. First time I called I was told they weren't there and now they won't take my calls. This happened Friday. There are 4 other witnesses to this. read more

Really great addition to the downtown scene. Syracuse is always behind but finally they got the trendy biergarten you see so many of in major cities. The prices are incredible (cheapest i've ever paid for a liter) and the service is usually good. Also the peanuts is a plus. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars is that there is no kitchen to order food from (although they do offer a free hotdog or pretzel with each liter) and the darts is really lacking. Unlike their other locations, the dartboard is crammed in a tiny dark place, making it hard to play. They should add a light or relocate the board to the front area. Also, CASH ONLY?! What? Why? Just adds an inconvenience and makes me spend less. So annoying. Bottomline, one of the best bars, if not the best, in Syracuse, but a kitchen, better darts and a POS system would have been nice. read more

I can imagine just how fun and jolly this place would be when it's filled during the World Cup. We went to Wolff's at about 4:30 on a Tuesday when it wasn't very crowded and found everything about this place so gemütlich and unpretentious. When we walked in, there was 80s music playing, maybe it was Rick Ashley's "Never Gonna Give You Up, but I can't remember because my attention was immediately redirected to a patron sporting an amazingly legit mullet. It's cash bar only, and they only had a few items on their menu: soft pretzel, hot dog, and chips & salsa. If you find beer to be on the filling side like me, then this menu is perfect. We settled on chips & salsa, a Bitburger for myself, and a bourbon for my drinking companion. The chips and salsa complimented not only the flavor of my beer but also the size. We sat just inside of the outdoor area at a very solid wooden table with very solid wooden benches. Some complain that dogs roam free here but it's definitely the highlight of this place for me. If you own a friendly dog, bring them! I tried to order a blueberry beer but they were out so I went with. 0.3 L sour instead. It tasted good. I like the idea of having free peanuts in their shells for the table. You can throw the shells on the ground. They advertise for a trivia night where you have to bring your own food. It doesn't start until February 6th (super early advertising). The sign reads "the staff are hungry too." There's indoor, bar and outdoor seating (but not a private patio, more just some tables out on the sidewalk). I am unsure if this place sells any food. I didn't see anyone eating when I was here. They have several TVs that feature movies and sports. On your birthday you get a boot of beer for free. read more

When I'm sitting dead center at the bar, crowd is fairly light and I sat there for (no exaggeration) 20+ minutes before I was acknowledged. This is the ideal place to host a casual event. The manager is very accommodating and easy to work with. Found it very easy and affordable to host an SU department event here. They allow you to bring in outside food and offer extended happy hour for large parties. Only complaint is that the music is a bit loud for typical conversation. read more

I have come here quite a few times and was pretty surprised when I saw that I have not left them a review yet! What I like about this establishment is that it feels like your stepping right into a German Brewery. They have so man German beers that you wont be able to have them all in one sitting. I really also enjoy the décor as its really rustic and quaint. I mean that in a positive way though. Nothing wrong with a giant beer and a hot dog while having laughs with friends. I double checked with the bartenders and you do indeed get a free 1 liter glass boot of beer on your bday for free. I know I need to come back here in August to take advantage of that. I am all for a place treating you special on your day of birth. I highly recommend coming here. Whether you need a good drink or to have a celebration! The area is very nice and you wont feel unsafe walking to your car after an awesome night. read more

I have been to Wollf's many times. I enjoy going to Monday's trivia contests. A lot of fun. If I had written this review three weeks ago I'd have given them four stars. Unfortunately, I had one of my worse experiences ever with a bouncer at Wolff's. I met a friend there who had been interested seeing the place. We had a couple drinks and decided to have something to eat. We wanted something more substantial than Wolff's dogs, I paid up and we left. Later I returned and was greeted at the door by the bouncer. The place was pretty quiet. I used the rest room, then decided that I was finished drinking for the night and decided to leave. When I approached the door the bouncer jumped in front of the door way, blocking it, and pointed me to the bar and said "go buy a beer". I told him that I was finished drinking for the night. He said the rest rooms weren't free, then repeated "go buy a beer". I said I would not and he told me to get out and to never come back. I stepped out the door and he followed. He told me to keep going and I said it was a public sidewalk. He then said I had to go stand in the road because Wolff's had a patio permit. Never have I heard of a bouncer making someone stay in a bar and drink more. Crazy! It's easy to imagine what would become of Wolff's if someone was to become involved in a tragic accident and reported that the bouncer ordered them to drink more before they left or they wouldn't be allowed to return. read more

Wolff's is particularly nice in the summer when they open up the doors to let in the outdoor air. I finally had the chance to check this place out on a Saturday during a 'Cuse basketball game. I really loved it here and will definitely be back. The beer selection is varied, so there is something for everyone. Most beers come in three different sizes, with the largest being 1.0 Liter. They also have a 3-person shotski and a 2.0 Liter beer boot, which combined with the large number of people drinking massive mugs of beer totally reminded me of the movie Beerfest. So for that reason alone, I would love it here. But, the best part about this place is the atmosphere. When you first walk in, it doesn't really look like much - concrete floors littered with peanut shells, large wooden picnic tables, and really uncomfortable benches at the bar. However, the vibe is a great one - lots of positive energy here! They have 7 or 8 tvs, so most people were here to watch one of the sports games on. Everyone we encountered, bartenders and customers alike, was super friendly and personable. Another thing I liked was that this seems to be a place for everyone, regardless of age. So, while it did slightly remind me of a college bar (maybe because of the game on and all the Syracuse gear people were wearing), there were definitely lots of people here well past college age and everyone was just having fun. The bartenders did a great job at getting people served quickly and seemed to know what they were doing. Perhaps the most interesting thing I saw here was a group of people doing the pickleback shots (advertised on a sign over the bar), which is a shot of Jameson followed by a shot of pickle juice (yup - pickle juice!). So bizarre to me, but definitely a fun "thing" to have as part of the bar for those crazy drinkers. As an aside, my husband has been to the original Hofbräuhaus München in Germany and said being here really did remind him of that. They do have hot dogs and soft pretzels available for purchase, as well as free peanuts, but that seems to be about it. In addition to beer, they also serve wine and liquor. As others have noted, they only take cash but are nice about it if you didn't know that and you try to hand them a card. I do think it would be useful if they had a sign posted upon entrance that it is cash-only. Maybe there is one, but I didn't notice one - so if there is, it should be more prominent. Overall, I loved it here for many reasons - the beer, the vibe, the great service, and the overall experience. read more

What it comes down to is Wolff's is just a flat out fun bar. They have a solid selection of beer (which isn't overly priced), they have TVs showing sports, there are peanuts to give you something to snack on, there's darts in the back, they have outside seating for the few months in Syracuse that you can actually use it, all the bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable about their beer selection, and there's enough seating that even during the busy times you won't have to wait that long to sit at their picnic style tables. The only cons are that it's cash only (atm outside) and their food selections are very limited (but you can bring you own food!). This is my go to bar in Syracuse and I recommend it to anyone looking to have a good time. read more

I agree that the place should accept credit cards even if they charge the 2 or 3% for card use. There should be large signs or the bartender should inform BEFORE taking orders. Wolff"s is a great bar and establishment to hang out and have a beer with friends. As mentioned already the picnic table seating adds to the communal environment, there are TV's playing sports, and there is a great beer selection. A larger group was hosting a surprise party at the time that we went to Wolff's, which made the experience louder and crazier, but it didn't detract from what makes this a great place. There were kids and adults alike having a pizza party on one end, and friends reuniting on the other end. I bought a chili dog, that was very satisfying, and my wife and I each got a drink from the bar. We were able to get a fruitier light beer, and a founders stout, each on tap. The prices were reasonable, the beer selection was great, and the atmosphere was energetic. read more

This is a HUGE addition to my hometown! It has great ambiance and the communal tables encourage mingling. It will be the premier soccer bar watching destination in Syracuse. I met several other supporters who follow clubs different than mine, and it was an extremely fun atmosphere. They also have several German beers that are not easily available in Syracuse. And throw the peanut shells on the floor. They don't care! This place has been operating as a cash-only bar in Albany for years. Love this place, have been to this location and the one in Albany. As a huge German beer drinker and Hefeweizen enthusiast, I feel right at home here. They have all different sizes of beer and different variations of German beer. If you go, you should get a liter, which will run you about $13. With every purchase of a liter, you get a voucher for a free hot dog or soft pretzel, both of which are delicious. The atmosphere is fun and open and it's a great place to have copious amounts of great beer with some friends. Would recommend to anybody who is in Syracuse to check out. read more

This is now one of my favorite bars in Syracuse!! I had a 2 liter of franzeskaner, which is a German beer. During your birthday you get a free boot of beer, with only your ID and a deposit. They serve mostly beers and some whisky/bourbon. There are peanut shells littered around the floor and a warm homey atmosphere. Loud, chill, light/wheaty beers. It's a German bar at heart. It's rowdy yet manages to be chill at the same time because all it really offers besides the drinks is some TVs up on the walls with Euro sports and Fortnite (idk why lol). Other than that I would only really suggest that you go here with friends you have an easy conversation with. SIT NEXT TO EACH OTHER, NOT ACROSS. You'll have a hard time hearing each other during the busy times. This place does get somewhat packed but you'll usually be able to find seating while scouring around for 5-10 mins or so, but expect to stand for the first few mins of being there. The beers are just fine, as usual, dig through their menu on the wall on Untappd to see if anything's worth buying. read more

It's not an authentic German beer hall but it's the best you will find in the states. Been to every location. Owners, bartenders, and customers have always been cool, fun, and made for a great time.
