    Best Pad Thai
    Esther K.

Best Pad Thai in Kingston - definitely worth waiting Randomly bumped into this restaurant after exam, we shared a Pad Thai, a green curry chicken rice, a hot and sour shrimp rice in Phnom Penh style. The food is made-to-order and we waited for at least half hour (not fast food for sure). The portion was more than enough for four hungry souls. We were impressed by their authentic Pad Thai. Stir-fried with sweet and sour sauce, the flavours and texture of rice noodles were just right. Don't forget to squeeze a bit lime juice into your dish! The green curry was amazing. The creamy paste with coconut milk was fragrant and not very spicy. For the Phnom Penh style shrimp rice, it was like a curry in Cambodian style (I'm not sure how to describe this). It was spicier than the green curry. The sauce was quite refreshing with a little bit of sourness like Tom Yum. I didn't expect so much but this meal was just simply terrific. I'll come again and try the red curry next time!

This place has been around for 25 years, your typical "hole in the wall" venue where people come for the food, not for the decor. The place can only seat about 16 people, and kitchen is right behind the counter where you have the full view of them cooking. Menu item #1 red curry is what we like the most, other menu items were good as well.

It's your standard hole in the wall Chinese restaurant but what sets it apart from others is its coziness. The owners are a lovely couple. Food takes a while but it's all freshly prepared. Be careful, they only take cash. Also, like me, if you're not a big fan of peanuts then request them to keep a light hand on it. Yumm pad Thai and pancake with scallion.

Cambodiana Restaurant - Panang curry tofu

The place takes only debit or cash, so don't forget to bring more than just your credit card! We shared a pad thai, a Cambodiana (green curry based) soup, and then got an iced coffee to go. All were soooo good!! The Cambodiana had a slight kick, but was quite milky rich with coconut milk. It was loaded with chicken strips and bamboo shoots. It basically tastes like a flavourful, watered down green curry... but I'm not complaining! The pad thai was not greasy nor too soft / soggy. There were a few pieces of plump shrimp and the portion sizes were very generous! We were stuffed upon finishing the two mains, and even had to leave some rice behind. I had a coffee craving, so we got a coffee before leaving. At first, I was shocked by the price tag (almost $6 for a one size / small), but the iced coffee was so smooth and rich. It basically tasted like a Vietnamese iced coffee, but much less stringent and not as sweet. A lot of effort was also put into it, with small crushed up bits of ice that quickly cooled down the drink. Delicious! Would love to come back again for Cambodian food.

Excellent food with great, hearty portions! I had the tofu pad thai with Thai style stir-fried…read morenoodles with fried tofu, green onion, bean sprouts, and roasted peanuts which was delicious! I liked that there was a good amount of peanuts sprinkled on the pad thai, giving it texture, and the tofu was soft, tasty, and altogether fantastic. I also tried some of the panang curry tofu which, served with a base of coconut milk, tasted fresh and yummy. One of my favourite parts of this restaurant was its ambience -- it's a homey and cozy place and it was fairly quiet when I went on a Wednesday evening. Their hours are pretty limited though (until 8pm on all nights and they're closed on Sundays) so I would keep an eye out for that. Our server was excellent and the location of the restaurant is pretty sweet too -- right in front of the hospital with all the downtown bus stops. I will definitely be back!

All dishes were very unique and very flavorful. The red curry was outstanding. Some of the best I've ever tried, and red curry is always my go-to dish for Thai restaurants. They are not stingy with the basil! The green curry soup had a hint of sourness as per its name, but it's not really sour. It was delicious and very much like the traditional Thai green curry except in soup form. The pad Thai was beautiful looking but in general I don't enjoy pad Thai as one of my favorites. My dad said he enjoyed it, but I wasn't really able to judge by just a few bites. My least favorite of the 4 entrees for sure. Mom ordered number 5, a chicken stir fry. It was in a yellowish curry like sauce. It didn't seem flavorful at first but after a few bites it really grew on me. I ended up eating the rest of the sauce after she had finished all the veggies and chicken. Prices were around $13 for each meal and they had special dishes for $15. Pretty good deal considering the portion sizes are very big. I loved it!!

If you got a dish for the price, you got a lot of food. Imagine the largest hour for box size and it is definitely filled to the top. I have friends were a big eaters, and even they could not finish the portion. They were generous with the amount of proteins, such as shrimp or chicken and the dishes. As of any restaurant, the predominant portion of food is rice or noodles. I got the pad Thai and it was a little bit on the acidic end of the spectrum for me. But otherwise it was tasty, although a little bit bland.
