This place is phenomenal and home to the BEST Thai curry (the Spicy Coriander, with honourable mention to the Golden Chicken) I have ever had in my life. The rich flavour, the perfect level of spice, the tender chicken -- ugh,I still think about this curry fondly even over a month later. I have a feeling I always will. My companions and I were thoroughly impressed -- zero complaints on the food. Also ridiculously affordable given the big portions and the quality! The restaurant itself: small and unassuming in decor but warm and inviting. It's located a bit away from the "downtown" core and requires a rather long stroll in an increasingly sketchy neighbourhood. The service: confusingly brusque. Ordered for take out Vegetable Fresh Rolls and Thai Panang Curry with shrimp. Vegetable Fresh Rolls - Nice golden crispy rolls, not overly fried. Was not prepackaged/frozen. The included Thai sauce is mandatory. Shrimp Thai Panang Curry - Came with white rice. Despite looking like a mess the food was absolutely amazing. Good amount of shrimp and the curry was rich with that distinctive coconut milk taste. Not too oily. Good flavors and spice, would recommend adding some Thai sauce to the mix as well. I was a loyal customer at Royal Angkor for all four years of living in Kingston, as I thought that this restaurant had the best tasting Thai Panang curry. I vouched for all their curries and even shared it with my friends. I ordered a Thai Panang Chicken recently, and I ended the meal feeling nauseous, and later in that evening, was stuck by the toilet all night. The coconut milk and the chicken didn't taste right, and unfortunately gave me food poisoning. Horrible timing, as it happened the night before my exam first thing in the morning. Don't think I'll be encouraged to try Royal Angkor anytime soon, and definitely dissuade others in trying them before an exam or an important event. read more

Very surprised that this place would get such good reviews. I've eaten at countless Thai restaurants around the world and can say I've never had worse Thai food. The food lacked overall flavor and the meat, both chicken and beef, was gross. I rarely leave bad reviews, but we were very dissatisfied with the food and the service was not very good either. Lovely food great price! I am not an expert on thai food, but I do know great curry when taste it. I orderes the chicken panang curry, with extra tofu on the side. They curry itself was phemomenal. It was the perfect balence of sweet and spicy, wth other over arching flavours. The chicken itself was fine and went well with the curry, but I was surprised with the tofu. They used really soft tofu, like a dessert tofu, which doesnt go well with curry (a firm or deep friend tofu is usually better). The curry was $12 and most dishes are around 10-12 bucks, so very reasonable. Overall, i will be back to try the pad thai and other dishes they offer and reccomend to anyone. read more

Recommend the panang curry or the Red curry (~$10) Those dishes are great, but otherwise everything else on the menu is only mediocre. I wouldn't say there's much flavour in their curries but you can add more of a kick to it if you request them to make it extra spicy. Service is great, gets your food out pretty fast and they're attentive in refilling your water. The restaurant is a bit small though, seats around 20 ppl in a full house. They have odd hours (11am-3pm, 5pm-9pm) and are closed on Sundays (sometimes other random days too). The food tastes pretty authentic and they tend to hire local students as cashiers and servers so there's no difficulty with language barrier. Even though this is pretty subpar of my standards, unfortunately, this is ONE OF THE BEST Thai restaurants in Kingston. read more

OK, I admit I raised an eyebrow or two when we decided to go to a Cambodian restaurant after spending a summer in Siem Reap. But I definitely was *very* pleasantly surprised. Being a fan of aromatics and coconut goodness with a tinge of spices, I was absolutely in love with this place. We had both the Pad Thai and the Panang chicken and they were both so flavourful. The food is really not that spicy but if you are the type of person who will cringe at "mild" spice, it's probably not the right place for you. I am at Kingston for a 2 days training. My colleague and I were looking for place to have dinner after yesterday's training. We saw this Cambodian and Thai restaurant then decided to give it a try. The inside of the restaurant looked much nicer than the outside so don't be afraid to go in. I ordered the Tom Yum Soup with noodle ($9). The soup was so GOOD! The flavour was just right, well at least the way I like it. Not too spicy and not too much other spices. I like the fact that I can choose either to have it with rice or noodles. My colleague ordered a dish called Siam Delight ($10). She said it tasted good as well; however, would love it more if it was spicier. The waitress was very nice and did not take long for the food to come. The only thing is there's not much Cambodian food on the menu and the font on the menu is quite small. read more

I've been coming to Royal Angkor for at least 10 years, and I haven't found anywhere else like it. I grew up in Kingston, but haven't lived here since 2009. Every time I come home, I absolutely need to get takeout from Royal Angkor. My favourite dish is the Red Curry with Bamboo. It's nothing fancy and it's pretty simple: bamboo shoots in a red curry sauce, served with coconut milk and white rice, but it's packed with flavour. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. So far my favorite Thai/Cambodian place in Kingston. Good food at a reasonable price. I ordered takeout the other day; relatively short wait considering the place was full - it was ready in about 20 minutes. Thai green curry was very spicy for me but delicious, I also ordered some veggie rolls on the side to cool my mouth down. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty. Was excited from reading the reviews. I've eaten Thai three times in the past week and this one was the least memorable. The tofu pad thai used tofu that tasted like the store bought teriyaki tofu, just a weird flavor. The red panang curry was better but still nothing to write home about. Came here on a wet and cold winter evening with my friend. We ordered the golden curry and was delightfully surprised by how delicious it is. The pepper were really spicy but we do love spicy food. Service were a little on the slow side and there weren't many tables in the restaurant. We were seated right by the door, so every time someone enters we get to feel the cold wind. I went to university in Kingston and Royal Angkor was a favourite haunt of mine. This family-run business welcomes you into their space with big smiles and great service. Waiting time does run a little deep when they're busy, but keep in mind that good food takes time. Now to the food. GOLDEN CHICKEN (#6 on the menu when I was there, in case it has changed). That's what you need to start off with. Be warned, you'll struggle to move away from this dish. It's that good. I now live in Western Canada and think about Golden Chicken on a regular basis. It's so good, that I started a facebook group labelled "Golden Chicken" to honor this dish. Royal Angkor delivers when asked to turn up the heat. Happy dining :-) read more

I just keep ordering take out from this place. All their curries are so yummy! This time I ordered the Panang chicken. Like always, I as super satisfied with their curry. It was a good amount of sweetness and spice. The portion size was decent for $10. However.. I was disappointed with the actual pieces of chicken. It looked like 1/3 of a chicken breast altogether. It had three slices and then two smaller slices. The chicken was also hard and dry.. Without flavor on the inside. I really do hope they prepare it better next time.. Or get a new meat distributor. The Panang chicken also came with two slices of cucumber and a slice of tomato on the side. I will still keep coming back for the curry :)! Their pad Thai is also delicious. Their food seems really authentic and cooked by Two thai chefs. Prices are decent. The little store looked cute and homey, decorated with authentic Thai decorations. However my friend talked me into going there and since I tried it I have basically stopped going to any other Vietnamese place. Decided to eat there after reading all the reviews on here. We were on vacation and driving from Toronto to Montreal, arrived at the restaurant 15 mins before they opened and the owner was eating with one of the staff. Since we had our 2 kids with us (15 months, and 3 months), we thought we'd ask him to wait inside until they open instead of carrying them with all their gear to the car and wait. He vehemently refused! When they did open, service was terrible, the staff looks quite unhappy being there. Food was ok at best. I don't know how they get so many good reviews. We live in Vancouver and the Thai food is AMAZING and plenty here. they would never get away with it in a city where people have options with such terrible service, and passable food. read more
