They described it as people with carts of food would circulate and you would choose what you wanted from the carts for the table and be billed for whatever you chose. Instead, we were given a QR code to scan and order dishes to the table. Some were fast to arrive, others were not so fast. We had to ask for waters for the table, and one of my dinnermates needed to ask repeatedly for the various sauces he has usually had included automatically. A few of our dishes never arrived to the table at all. When we asked about splitting the cheque, they got very aggressive with us and demanded we pay on one bill. The food was ok, most of it was fine, some of it was great. The concensus from the group was that it was just ok. The place was pretty packed by the time we left, so people do seem to enjoy this format.

The upscale environment, attentive service and the ability to BYOB make Mr. Spicy a fantastic dining option. Food-wise, everything we ordered was good. Standout dishes include the hot & sour soup, chili eggplant and the General Tso's chicken. Like others have mentioned, the food is mostly sweet & sour. So if that's your thing, great. I can't really say this is the most authentic Chinese food, because it definitely caters to Western taste. However, when you're craving sweet & sour Chinese food, this is the perfect place.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Very affordable Chinese restaurant…read morewith delicious food and huge portions. The Long Version: So I've walked by Restaurant Guan many times, but they have always been closed because they are closed on weekends and I'm usually only back in Montreal on weekends. I was there on a weekday on a previous visit but it was around the Christmas holidays and they were closed for an extended time during the holidays. Anyway, I finally walked by on a Friday and they were open! So I had to pop in for a little something to check them out. From the outside this place reminds me of the type of restaurant that I loved when I was in Montreal as a poor starving student, living in a studio apartment and sleeping on an inflatable mattress, many moons ago. That is restaurants with huge portions for cheap, with tasty food. Since I had youth on my side, I wasn't too concerned about nutrition back then. There was this place on St. Urbain at the corner of Ave des Pins and I can't remember the name, but I'd be able to get a huge plate of General Tao Chicken with fried rice and a spring roll for $3.99. It would literally fill me up for 24 hours. Restaurant Guan reminds me of that place. On my visit, I just got a small order of pork peanut butter dumplings which was 5 dumplings for $3.50, as a snack, but I saw others getting meals and their portions were huge. The Pad Thai would easily be 2-3 meals for me. Anyway, my dumplings were tasty. The dumpling were filled with ground pork and topped with a delicious rich thick peanut butter sauce. I asked for no sesame seeds and they were able to accomodate. They even gave me a glass of water and a fortune cookie with my meal. And staff were incredibly pleasant. This place is very popular with students. Lots of kids with backpacks were coming in for meals. The École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) is close by. Lucky students, lol. I'm looking forward to returning and trying their other items. The restaurant is in Griffintown. Street parking only. Review #76 (2025)

I work near by so for lunch I'm always looking for something quick and tasty. This place usually does the trick, they're friendly and fast. I can order dumplings, rice, spring rolls, basically any entree and it's enough to tide me over. I order 2-3 entrees and I find that it fills me up for 5-6 hours depending on what it is. I find that the fried wontons can be a bit too greasy, but otherwise good. The dumplings are decent but only if eaten warm (don't let them sit out for too long) they have a good flavour and texture but they feel a bit rubbery depending on the day. The spring rolls are basic but still crunchy with crisp flavours. Overall, not a bad place to stop in my opinion. I wouldn't really consider it authentic but that's the point when you go somewhere like this for Chinese food. You want cheap, abundant, fill you up till you throw up, americanized Chinese food. I think it's great that they deliver. It's honestly some really good comfort Chinese food. But don't go out of your way to visit. I really want to try the General Tao chicken though! Will have to stop by with my boyfriend some day.

I randomly stopped here on a late Wednesday night and I was thoroughly impressed with my meal. My favorite dish is #132, the flat rice noodle with shrimp and lobster sauce (with no bean sprouts). The portion size is HUGE, they don't skimp on the amount of shrimp they put in a dish, and it's extremely affordable. I've also had the orange beef and the sesame beef but I'm not the hugest fan of those meals-- they're both on the more greasy side. When going to Spicy Noodle I definitely recommend trying the noodles over the fried food like the orange beef, general Tao chicken, etc

Read the positive reviews and visited for dinner. Came away underwhelmed. Nothing particularly bad,…read morebut nothing great either. Everything we ordered was flat-line on taste and flavor. Despite the forbidding, poorly kept exterior and stair landing, the interior dining area was clean. Food consisted of Vegetarian Spring Rolls (two absolutely tiny fried rolls with a flavorless yellow dipping sauce), Cumin Beef (perhaps the star of the show, relatively tender, with specks of dried chili - not at all spicy), Sweet and Spicy Eggplant (again, okay but lacked spiciness/heat and flavor), and rice, all washed down with marginally cold Tsing Tao beer. Portions were generous, service was hurried/at rapid pace for some reason, but lacked follow-up once the dishes arrived! The meal for two set us back CAD 58+ with hefty taxes and generous tips. Not a bad place by any means, but what we had was nothing spectacular!
