I stopped by this place visiting Alabama based on their Yelp rating. I expected the food to be good, but my plate (the Pasta Dinner with chicken) was superb. It doesn't look like much but it was FULL on Friday night. The food was fantastic! I had the stuffed grilled chicken and the collard green soup. Both are great. The service was good. The prices were good. My only comments are that the music was really loud (also good) and the food came out separately which was a little weird. Everyone was very nice. Passing through Montgomery on a road trip and stopped into this lovely little cafe for a scrumptious dining experience. This small space ( they are about to relocate to a larger space nearby) serves up interesting, tasty Cajun fare. You are greeted after being seated with a sample of the soup of the day and their tasty signature sweet tea. We were hooked! Hubs had the Louie Armstrong --a generous combo of scallops, shrimp, sautéed peppers and mushrooms topped with a tasty creamy sauce and some toasted Texas toast to ensure a clean plate. Deceptively plain from the outside, the food and the service exceeded all expectations. Our server was bubbly and friendly and the food came out fast, hot, and delicious. The shrimp and grits was fantastic- grits we cheesy and the shrimp seasoned just right. The gumbo was very tasty. Our salad had delicious roasted peppers and the seasoning made the dressing on the side almost an afterthought. We have eaten here 2 times. The first time it was delicious! The spices, the sauce were both the real deal. The second time around was not as good... Yes, the sauce and spices were still good but I was highly disappointed in our food. We both got the Bayou Classic which you pay a pretty penny for, only to find our crab meat in our Crab Cake was FAKE!! It unrolled into a long fake crab ribbon looking thing. Basically fake crab... Just like at the grocery store. It amazes me that they would not use real crab meat in thier Crab Cakes... They have everything else right! Why scrimp on the crab?? The description does not say they use fake crab and for the price I feel they should let customers know. The unrolled fake crab ribbon really made us lose our appetite. Great find in Montgomery, in a strip mall no less. Don't let the location next to the Publix fool you. The food was beautiful and delicious. I got the bayou classic - dirty rice with 2 crab cakes, spinach, spicy shrimp and a creamy sauce. Not sure what the other reviewer was saying about fake crab & salmon in the crab cakes. I'm conflicted. My first visit was all about amazing food. It was rich, natural, and left me full and smiling all day. I had to introduce it to others, but when I did I witnessed some of the slowest service I've ever seen. I can be patient for quality food, but there were parties that arrived before me still getting dishes by the time my own much-delayed table was paying up. If you live in Montgomery, you should definitely try this menu, but cross your fingers your get the A-team instead of the B-team behind the counter. read more

I had my second visit to Wishbone Saturday evening around 7:00 pm. I was so impressed with the food and prices on the first visit that I came back with three new people. Unfortunately they were out of the collard green soup, which is the main item we went for. The second item I wanted was a half gallon of tea to take home. That was out as well. I asked the manager on duty if he could sell me the gallon sized tea at the half gallon price since they were all out, and he said 'no'. I left the restaurant without the tea as well. In my opinion he missed an opportunity to keep a customer's experience 5 star. And why the soup was out by 2 pm (and not replenished by 7:00 pm) is beyond me. They say the third time is the charm so because the food is great, I will give them another try. read more

I think I just found my favorite place in Montgomery. Food was crazy good. Service was amazing. I got the bayou classic and wiped my plate clean with the toast. My wife got the salmon and absolutely loved it. The collard green soup was off the hook. Hell, even their tea is something different but amazing. Wow! Just an ordinary looking strip mall location, but an amazing gourmet restaurant. Very interesting menu selections. Had the chicken skewers over Cajun rice. Very tasty. Only disappointment was that they had run out of the collard greens​ soup. The appetizer sampler with wings, riblets and chicken salad were a meal in itself. The staff is very friendly and attentive. This used to be one of my top spots in Montgomery, and I will still give it another shot, but my last experience there was not a great one. I arrived Wishbone at 6:40 and was greeted with the usual friendly employees, I knew that my gf and I were limited on time (had a 7:30 movie to catch) so we decided to order quickly I don't know if inexperience or overall lack of priority is to blame, but our food did not come in a timely fashion. I work in the industry, and cooking two burgers medium doesn't take 35+ minutes, nor should the starter we ordered (chz fries) come out with the entrees. I could understand if the restaurant was blown out or busy, but we were 2 of 5 customers in the establishment. When 7:20 came we decided to get our food Togo and would eat on the way to the theatre. We finally left at 7:25, slightly agitated but with food in hand. The starter chz fries were ok, but the burger was sub par. The chz was still cold -cheddar slices and the chz in the middle of the patty. We ate about a quarter of the food and tossed the rest. Unfortunately either a few bites of the burger or the chz fries did not sit well. Over all it was a disappointing experience that resulted in a lot of wasted food. I will give Wishbone another chance in the future, hopefully it will be a better experience. read more

This is one of very few real Cajun restaurants. And you know you're in the right place before you even sit down for two memorable reasons. First, the Wishbone staff treats you just as you would treat your own family. Second, they immediately offer you a sample of their soup of the day and their specialty peach iced tea. It's an unbeatable combination because it makes the Wishbone's brand come alive. My wife had the Louis Armstrong: grilled shrimp, bay scallops, sautéed peppers, mushrooms, Cajun rice, feta cheese, and Texas toast. It typifies the flair reflected everywhere in the menu. She called it exceptional. I'm not normally a dessert person, but I had to try the homemade nana pudding. Wishbone brings together a whipped cream base, ground vanilla wafers, just-right bananas, and vanilla to present an intensely flavored, but light version of an old Southern standby. Paul hopes to expand, not just to offer more diners wonderful food, but to help people grow rewarding careers. You should expect to spend about $20 for lunch. It will be worth every penny. Great place for lunch in Montgomery! The hostess is a gem of a lady and made me feel welcome the moment I walked in. She brought me a free sample of the soup of the day which was beef and noodle. Normally I don't get too excited about beef and noodle soup, but this was truly delicious. Unlike any I've ever had. I might call it creamy cajun vegetable meatball soup. It was homemade and it was delicious. I also had a chicken salad sandwich which was very good. Overall the Wishbone Cafe is definitely worth a visit. read more

Amazing!!! What a great find! The restaurant is unassuming, located next to a Publix grocery store in a small shopping center but don't let that fool you. The food is simply fantastic, the staff is super friendly, and the prices are great. We had house ice tea, wings, and two entree's and a dessert to go and it came to just over $30. The house ice tea is delicious - sweet, but not too sweet, and slightly fruity. We had mildly spicy wings and they were perfect - a spicy kick that wasn't overwhelming, tender, full of meat and not fried. You can order 7, 9 or 12; we ordered 7 and it came with 10. For the meals, I had the shrimp po' boy. It was a little different than a typical po boy but man oh man it was good. It was grilled shrimp with tomato-y sauce and came with seasoned fries that were out of this world. The husband had a cream cheese and spinach stuffed burger. It was juicy, tender and perfectly cooked. Again, it came with the great fries. During our meal, all three of the staff came over to chat and check on the food. It's a simple restaurant, but they refill your beverages and get you anything you ask for. We stopped in on a break from house searching and when we finish moving, we will be back. Horrible service. Horrible food. Everything on the plate was burned and charred. Others in my party were finished eating when I finally got my meal. Printed prices on menu were wrong and the cashier said, "That's just how it is. Everybody has that problem. I always have to show them the computer." We went because the reviews seemed good, but will never go again. Employees are totally apathetic and don't seem to care what kind of service is provided or what comes out of the kitchen. $12.70 for a plate of charcoal since apparently everything is ran through a pizza oven type piece of equipment. read more

We had lunch here and were totally overwhelmed by the quality of food served by this unassuming cafe. We both had the Blue Plate special which today was lobster and shrimp ravioli served with a cream-based sauce with additional shrimp and other seafood. The portions were large and excellent. In addition, the serving and kitchen staff were exceptionally friendly. Service was fast, but the place does get very crowded at lunchtime. We'll definitely try to return. read more

This place is a gem! Wide menu selection. I ordered a 1/2 order on blackened shrimp. Received two nice size skewers (Most places would call this a whole order) and a plate of seasoned fries.
