In town visiting family's and our favorite seafood spot was closed for the holiday weekend. We asked family for recommendations and J&D was recommended. Good prices, fairly quick service. My husband ordered a shrimp po boy. We assumed would be NOLA style but was not (not a bad thing but want to help others manage their expectations). Not the traditional bread used in NOLA; it was also too soft and could not stand up to the amount of shrimp which made for a messy sandwich. I ordered the tilapia sandwich. Fried well but 100% bland and drenched in grease (see pic). We both ordered coleslaw side which was tasteless and watery. Took one bite and stopped after that. There are two tables inside, they were not clean but after a long day of travel we bared it. Took my fish to go to try it the next day (perhaps my palette was off) and it was still bland. read more

All of their seafood has the same flavor. My seafood combo of catfish and shrimp was not special in any way. I've also had the fake catfish (swai) it's Not good! Customer service is lacking. read more

Best seafood in Montgomery, complemented by the best price. Atmosphere is just ok but that's not why we go

I visited this place to get fresh seafood and picked up a meal as well. They were very friendly and helpful with suggestions on what to eat. I got a fried shrimp meal w/a side of gumbo. The shrimp meal was delicious. The shrimp was so sweet and fresh! The gumbo, not so much. It was very slimy and the consistency made me not eat it. I've never had slimy gumbo. I picked up trout, shrimp, and whiting to fry at home. It fried up very well! They bagged it on ice very well. I was disappointed that they didn't have real catfish (my fave), especially being in Alabama. I don't eat/like swai. It's an imported fish from Asia, mostly Vietnam. I ended up getting real catfish from somewhere else instead. I would visit again if in town but hope that they get real catfish in the future! read more

Horrible Customer Service!!!! I called to asked the price of Catfish and Whiting and the lady who answered the phone was very rude. Nevertheless we went to get some food from them and I'll never return back again. I had to click a star for this to be posted. read more

Huh? Trying to think of a positive thing to say... 1. Glass was so foggy that I could not see what I was buying (totally on me...!) 2. Not real sure why the shrimp are so soapy especially after cleaning and deveining 3. Not going there again and very thankful that God spared me a terrible bout of food poisoning read more

Coworker went to pick up Crawfish Poboy for me at JD and once I got the food I noticed a smell and didn't think much of it until I pop one crawfish in my mouth. Bad mistake!.. The meat is not cook all the way and they were black and smell awful!.. When I called to let them know the person on the other line was rude about it. So I just had to return to get my money back. I had gave them the benefit of the doubt and took my chance but still is very disappointed with them. Never again will I go back there. I only gave one star for the corn nuggets because that is the only thing good about that place. read more

Rude.... Just called and got a rude response. Won't even make the trip to buy from them

No customer service at all! these people are always in a bad mood and their attitude stinks just like their establishment.

Great seafood market with competitive pricing. I come here for crabs and crawfish. They also have a take out spot next door.

Go somewhere else. I got shrimp and I've never tasted or seen shrimp like this before. It's like mushy for some reason idk but not worth the 100 I spent for 2 pounds of shrimp and some legs. read more

I visited this place for the first time recently. I was disappointed, to say the least. I ordered a red snapper fish sandwich. It was over priced for the quality and the amount of food. The customer service was for below substandard, as the woman at the counter was rude and unfriendly. I will not be returning to this place and will not recommend it. read more

I've always only tried their catfish sandwiches which are always so plentiful and delicious. But I recently got very into crab legs and I decided to try that with them. I went one day and had to go back the next day for more. Their also very kind, they chat with my little people and play like tricks on them which I think is good for your neighborhood store. I just love it! You must visit! read more

We love their crawfish, crabs, and lemonade! We drive an 1.5 one way just to come eat here! They've added on a dining area and their customer service is great! They get their crawfish from Louisiana and I ENJOY each bite! My hubby loves their raw oysters, too! read more

They don't have real catfish they have Swai fish. I asked the man before ordering if the whole catfish was regular (they advertised the filet as swai) he said yes. I got it & while looking at it in the car if wasn't as red as catfish usually is but I though it was just me. Took the fish home cooked it and couldn't even eat it. It was a waste of money. Never again. It was obvious swai because real catfish is flaky and not chewy. The meat would barely come off the bone. If you LOVE GENUINE catfish don't believe the hype they don't have it here. I could have went to Winn Dixie or Publix there was no need for them to lie to me. read more

The person who answered the phone was rude and not helpful in the least, but I ordered anyway, silly me. There were absolutely no customers in the place when I arrived to pick up my order. You would have thought I was robbing them, considering how rude the cashier was. The food was blah and overpriced. I will not be patronizing the place ever again. I will be sure to spread the word as to how awful my experience. read more

Checked this place out after overhearing some business people talk about it (fairly new to the Montgomery area). I got a Po Boy and Gumbo to go. Frog Legs and oysters are on the menu, too. No dining in but they take call in orders. I wrote this reviewed some time ago, but forgot to publish it. I have been here several times since, and the food was always good with great portions. They were always busy with pick-up orders. read more

I came to J & D's at my Grandma's recommendation...having grown up in Panama City, FL, she knows good seafood! Today the large shrimp was $8.99 a pound and from the gulf. We have purchased shrimp here several times and have always been pleased with the high quality of their seafood and their service. When I have made purchases here, they always put a bag of ice in my shopping bag with the bag of shrimp...if I am going straight home, there's no need to mess with a cooler! read more

I wish giving them no stars was an option. We came from Indiana for a wedding and stopped here and the Asian man was rude as fuck !! My mom asked him what something was and his response was full of attitude and unwarranted sarcasm. Do not give them your business. The lady next to me was receiving horrible service as well. read more

JD's Seafood is normally my go for fresh fish, but today I was in that side of town and stopped by around 1pm, only to be told that I couldn't get fish cleaned for another 30 mins. When I asked why he stated that they were on lunch. There were no closed for lunch signs any where in site. I too was on lunch and couldn't wait. Then I was told to come back. In the future if you're establishment is close for lunch you should make sure that your customers are aware of the closing times. read more

What an amazing find! I stopped by here to buy something to grill up for dinner. I pleasantly discovered that it was not only a seafood market but they also cook up seafood for take-out as well. You can order anything from fried shrimp to fish po-boy. I didn't order anything food but I did bring home two white snappers that was cleaned and descaled. They were delicious grilled up with some salt and lemon. read more

Every time I come there are flies, au least half the fish doesn't look fresh. Last time I bought "fresh" Gulf shrimp and a measurable portion of them were beyond "ripe". read more

Fresh seafood cooked to order. Good prices, very good variety and friendly service. Take out only. Call ahead at busy times.

Best fried catfish dinner I have ever had. This was a great find and better food. The catfish dinner has two large filets w/ bread and two sides. It was enough to fill me up and have some leftover. I will be going back for more. Great food!! read more

If you are looking for some good Fried Catfish or shrimp. This is the place to go. I love their catfish platter/ PO boy and Shrimp Po Boy. Their prices are reasonable. The interior is not very appealing but the food I listed is great. I can not speak for the entire menu. They do not try to short change you on your entrée proportions. The sides could be a little larger but they do make up for it with the entrées. Also just FYI you only get sides with the platter. The Catfish Po Boy and shrimp Po Boy come with Fries. read more

I have been eating good quality takeout seafood from here for quite some time, but the last few trips have not been good. They still give generous portions, but the breading they heap onto the shrimp and especially the oysters fries into something quite the texture of concrete. I attempted to pick it all off the oysters tonight, but they were still hard to chew because of the overcooking. Sides are limited and not very good either. I recommend that you buy seafood here and take it home to cook it. read more

Steamed shrimp in old bay was excellent. Shrimp was fresh and as good as restaurants anywhere along the coast. Market price and only 1.50 to steam.. For quantity and quality to take home, can't beat it. read more

Love the Seafood at J&D, it's always fresh. I'm from New England and grew up with fresh fish. J&D Seafood reminds me of home "Boston". I always get mine fried or broiled with sides and it's to die for! Red Lobster has nothing on J&B Seafood. I highly recommend this place. you can get it cleaned and or cooked or take it home and clean, dress and cook it yourself. Try it! read more

Ok, I just went there yesterday (8/24/15) to pick up 2libs of crab legs for my hubby birthday. Tell me this, if you are told its 8.99 a pound, plus 1.50 to steam & tax, I know I'm not crazy, but that shouldn't come to $23 and some change!! 8.99 x 2= 17.98. $1.80 = 10% + 1.50 for steaming. TOTAL= $21.28!!! I stood there & calculated in my head & the irritated response the man gave is " you know we add tax" next "it's $1.50 to steam & sometimes it's a little over 2lbs" I didn't bother to argue my point. I just told him it wasn't right and I've been there several times for same thing & price was different. I weighed the crab legs, while still in tin pan, on our food scale @ home and it was 1.984=2lbs... No where over 2lbs!!! Anyway, my husband enjoyed his crab legs, but be smart & calculate your own charge before just paying what's spoken because you're in a hurry. There's no way he charged me correctly & I believe they change the prices depending on flow of business. I'll let my husband return because he's not going to let them get over on him. I'll get my seafood elsewhere!!! They're all about business not customer service!!! read more
