Excellent quaint traditional restaurant. The menu has traditional cuisine and daily specials. The food exceeded my expectations. The service was spectacular. Karine, the proprietor, is just awesome. Only 9 tables, and reservations are recommended. I confused timing on our reservations and she was more than accommodating. My wife and I had a lovely evening and would definitely recommend this little hidden gem.

Escargot au Roquefort

We were here in March of 2018. It is a small, friendly, personal, restaurant staffed by a woman who I believed to be the owner, and from what I could see, one chef who may have been her husband. We loved everything, from the friendly personal service to the food. We had Escargots au Roquefort, Spaetzel, Kidneys, salad and dessert. I had never had kidneys before and was expecting a plate with two small kidneys and a nice little presentation on the plate; however, I received a bowl full of just kidneys. I was somewhat taken aback, and immediately felt bad because I was afraid I would not like them and would leave a full bowl of kidneys uneaten. I would be embarrassed and feel like I was insulting the nice owner and the chef. Fortunately they were delicious and I ate every one of them. We've had many meals in some very good restaurants and this remains one of my favorites.

Escargot. Really great!

It was Sunday, and the sleepy town was pretty much shut down. There were a few restaurants open, but mostly Pizza, Kebab, and other fast foods. The downtown, open air shopping center is a few square city blocks, so I thought to just explore hoping to run into a German restaurant/ brasserie. I didn't want to Google anything. Luck was on my side, and I found this place open and with plenty of patrons sitting outside enjoying a midday meal. The menu has many choices even some non-meat selections. I ordered a Jagerschnitzel topped with a mushroom sauce. It took a while to arrive, but it arrived piping hot with an accompaniment of vegetables and side of fries. The menu is in German and French, though the staff attending me spoke German, French, & English. It's a relaxed place where apparently locals come to enjoy a late Sunday lunch. The schnitzel was perfectly fried and deliciously tender. Portions are huge, and definitely value for money for a real German treat. People here stay longer and socialize at an unhurried pace. There is nice indoor seating, but outside is the place to be when the weather is good.

Wow! What a great find! I was craving some good Schnitzel, so I looked on Yelp, and this place came…read moreup. I read about it and saw it had a Michelin rating, and the reviews were great! Plus, it was out of the city center, more of a neighborhood place. As fate would have it, I was on a walk and saw that this place was minutes away. It was early, around 5 PM, and they were just opening for dinner. I strolled the streets until I arrived, and walked in through the back, and straight into their beautiful courtyard. The courtyard was beautiful, several tables all set and ready for the dinner crowd. I walked toward the restaurant and saw the daily special board, but there were no staff, at least outside. I checked out the board and saw they had Pfefferlingcremesuppe, which is one of my favorite foods! A minute later, a woman walked out and greeted me. I told her I knew it was a Friday, but would there be a table for 2 available? She smiled and said I could come now or at 8:30- I chose 8:30 as 5 pm was a little too early to eat. I left and came back at 8:30, the place was buzzing, and the courtyard was packed! My dining partner couldn't make it, so it was just me. The same woman was there to greet me, she smiled when she saw me and brought me to a table in the middle of the courtyard. I was seated and given a menu. I ordered a cold beer and perused the menu. While there were many great things on the menu, I already knew what I wanted, so when she returned, I ordered the soup and the Schnitzel. The soup was delicious and a large serving, and when I finished, my Schnitzel arrived, with fried potatoes and bacon, and a nice salad. Even though I was by myself, I immensely enjoyed the atmosphere; this place is all local, all having a great time, and friends greeting each other. Service was on point, attentive without being overbearing, and friendly! I had another beer and enjoyed the ambiance, and then paid my bill and walked back to my hotel. Such a great dinner and experience! I will definitely be back here on my next visit to Baden Baden!

This was my first real German meal here and I gotta say it wasn't easy simply because nobody spoke English to us. After looking confused at the menu, the waitress brought me an English menu. Phew!!! I started off with the pancake soup. This was a good salty broth with lots of green onions and egg like pancake strips. The Asian in me desperately wanted a bowl of rice to mix into the soup! Only 3 euros and well worth it on a cold day. Bierstadels home made pan: two large pieces of thick pork seared perfectly! A cream mushroom sauce bathed in it. A large side of homemade spatzle (noodles) accompanied it. All in all, it was a good hearty dish but there was a strong, horseradish like flavor that I didn't like. Maybe other locals like this flavor but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I must say the pork was cooked perfectly! The Special: a softball size pork that seemed to be cooked in beer. Cooked to perfection! Again, beer in my pork is not my cup of tea, but my husband enjoyed it immensely. My kids chicken wings were super TASTY but there were only three wings :(. My daughters schnitzel was a good, large size with a great crunch but the middle was a bit soggy. Both came with great fries, slice of watermelon and my kids' fave, a lollipop! There's no ordinary water here, only sparking water with a small slice of lemon. There's a Biergarten outside so of course, a huge array of beer. There's no way to finish the meal on my plate, so they happily boxed up my meal. For us, service was ok... But I think the language barrier was the main reason for it. For all the other patrons who spoke German, it seemed like everyone was an old friend. They were however cordial and friendly. All in all... It was a 3.5 star experience but I'm feeling generous today. Their large portions definitely pushes it to 4 star range.
