We ate outside and it was the perfect French experience. My food choices were delicious. The restaurant was busy both inside and outside. I noticed that there was quite the variety of items being ordered. Service was accurate and prompt. It was an excellent choice for my one day in Strasbourg.

One of the best meals I had on my two week trip in France Worth the oignon breath +'s: + Tiger steak arrived with the perfect amount of blood and flavor + Service quite efficient and friendly. With so many tourists the staff managed to put on a smile + Indoor and outdoor seating available. Of course make a reservation because it is packed + They allowed me to eat with 5 lb toy poodle, thank you Not worth the oignon breath -'s: - Gazpacho soup not the best I've had and I'm comparing to the ones I had in Spain where the ingredients seemed more fresh than this one If ever I return to Strasbourg I will definitely come back here to eat. Such a memorable and fantastic meal!

This is so far the best meal I've had in the Alsace! Just arrived in Strasbourg from another small town in the region. I was starving since I just had a sweet danish for breakfast and had to dash for the train. Once I got settled into the hotel, I went to wander in La Petit France. Just using Hoogle Maps, I found the highly rated Restaurant L'Oignon. And it was totally DELICIOUS. The ambiance is almost pub or tavern like. Loads of wood, booths and small tables. I snagged a table just 15 minutes before they closed lunch service. I had a poêle with oyster mushrooms plat that came with seasons vegetables (carrots, mushrooms, broccoli and potatoes that was served in an iron dish). You could tell the chef cared about presentation because the plate was pretty. The veggies were cooked in a hot oven and perfectly al dente. The side order of spaetzle could have been skipped since they weren't seasoned and a bit oily. This was a meal to push the boat out. I ended up ordering dessert of moelleux au chocolat and it came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of chantilly and a small cup of custard. Service was fantastic. The young lady serves were quick, pleasant, patient. They dealt with English, Spanish and French speakers all in stride. Overall, a wonderful meal. Food: 4 out of 4 stars Service: 4 out of 4 stars Ambiance: 3.5 out of 4 stars (it's not a fine dining restaurant but like one)!

Foie Gras & Risotto w/ white asparagus

Absolutely outstanding. Smaller restaurant with a relaxed vibe. So impressed w/ younger staff being all over it. Risotto w/ white asparagus may have been the best we've ever had - including Italy. Foie was great - pâté style. Pork shank in Alsace wine - amazing. Paired w/ local Alsace white wine for $38 a bottle - awesome. Everything front to back was outstanding.

Pork knuckle and sauerkraut with meats

Food was not very good. Pork knuckle was sweet and soggy. My friend had the sauerkraut and 5 meats. The sauerkraut had zero flavor. The service was decent but I wouldn't waste my time or money on the food

Absolutely wonderful restaurant with a friendly smile from everyone that worked there. The moment we walked in the hostess greeted us. The atmosphere is charming and warm, very much appreciated considering the cold temperature outside. Our meals were very tasty. Unlike the U.S., they welcomed my mini dachshund (teckel). I would definitely return when I am in Strasbourg again.

There are a lot of touristy restaurant options in Strasbourg offering Alsatian cuisine, especially in the Little France neighborhood, but L'Oignon felt separate from other places in terms of the quality of food and service, as well as the cozy atmosphere. We came in for lunch without reservations and with two kids on a busy day during the Christmas markets, and after about 20 minutes landed a table. The kids' menu was one of the draws, and didn't disappoint as my son, a picky eater, devoured his steak and fries, which came with ice cream too all for 12 Euros. I had the steak topped with foie gras, which was excellent, and my wife greatly enjoyed the chicken and mushrooms. My daughter had the smoked salmon and "hash browns" (which were essentially potato pancakes/latkes topped with salmon), which was also fantastic, as was the apple strudel we had for dessert. The entire time, the service was impeccable and we talked about the meal for the rest of our trip.

I enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere that surrounds the restaurant. Wine was also nice.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. They're very friendly and patient with us. Since we didn't speak French, we don't always see that type of patients. But the servers were polite and answered all our questions. The food was definitely on point and very delicious. The presentation was beautiful and the meat came out cooked perfectly, now let's talk desserts. The desserts were crème brûlée, apples, strudel, and a small serving of chocolate for the small child. They all were delicious and all homemade. We have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant and would highly recommend visiting it. If you can get yourself a reservation. Reservations are definitely the best way to go. Once again, I cannot say enough how great our servers were. Everybody was so nice. Take a look at some of the pictures of our wonderful evening.

What a delightful place for dinner!! The people here are so friendly and helpful! The food is amazing! I had the Alsatian chicken dish with Spaetzle and a green salad which is an incredible dish! A little Alsatian Riesling to go with it wow! My son had the steak and my wife had the monkfish, everything was incredible!! What an exceptional experience because of the people, food and atmosphere! Make sure to reserve a table and don't miss it!

Excellent food and excellent service ! Even though the area is very touristy we felt we were treated as genuine guests. Do not hesitate with another restaurant. This is where you should go when in Strasbourg! Delicious !

And when your walking tour guide tells you a fun story about a Michelin-starred restaurant and it's interesting name, you decide to take yourself there. I haven't been to a Michelin-starred restaurant in a very long time and I have never been to one alone, but it was still a lovely experience. The staff was very attentive, kind, and knowledgeable. The food was inventive and enjoyable, though I admit I had a hard time understanding the waitstaff sometimes, so I wasn't always sure what I was eating, but luckily I'm willing to eat anything. I had the discovery menu (appetizer, fish, entree, dessert), 3-course wine pairing, coffee, and the restaurant's "extras" which included some very tasty amuse bouche at the beginning, small desserts with the coffee, and even a cookie to take a home. I did not order from the cheese cart, but it was fun to watch it wheeled out for others. For a Michelin restaurant, I found it very reasonably priced and accessible, though I'm not sure I can say I was completely blown away by the food (wine was fantastic, though). But I did see the crocodile! Which is where the restaurant gets it's name: in the 1800s a sailor came back from Egypt with a stuffed crocodile and had the bright idea to use it as a marketing (who wouldn't want to see a stuffed crocodile?!?)

Such a beautiful restaurant! Amazingly friendly service! And of course delicious food!…read more We were in town for the Christmas market, so it was fun to take a break from being outside and eating mostly from food vendors. We came in for lunch and went with the market menu they were offering. We also ended up adding a cheese course, because when in France! Can't say no to cheese! I don't know if it's the primacy effect, but I loved the first course. It was like a little egg soup dish. So warm and hearty, it was just comforting. Everything else was good too, but the cheese was a major highlight for me. The waiter selected a sampling of cheeses for us from a huge cheese cart. It was fun to watch and see all the cheeses on display.
