We have been to Strasbourg a few times and always remarked at the building's beauty, sitting on the Ill river. Today we decided to give it a try and were very pleasantly surprised. I ordered the cordon bleu which was amazing. A thick cut of pork with ham and what had to be a half pound of cheese folded into it. It looked like schnitzel but was truly a unique, French original. The portion size was immense, so much so that I couldn't even eat the Pommes frites that accompanied it. She got the veal cutlet in mushroom sauce and that was if possible, even better. We also sampled the cheese board which again was a surprisingly large portion and we had to take that home. The value for money was over the top as the entire meal was only €65, which also included bottled water and a dessert. Waiter was very friendly and accommodating as well. Surely give this place a try on your next visit to Strasbourg. read more

I had not been here in many years. I had my favorite of tarte flambee also called Flammkuchen. It is a very thin pizza with a white sauce called Crème Fraiche with onions and bacon bits with some cheese on top. Still delicious after all these years. The normal size is enough for a meal. Nice place for a quiet meal with a beautiful view. Friendly and unhurried service. We stopped in for a mid day bite and glass of wine. We just walked in and picked our own table. We chose the bottom level by the river. Both salads, tomato & mozzarella and blue cheese & bacon were the perfect choice for a warm day. The tomato & mozzarella was the lighter of the two. The house Riesling was dry with mineral notes. All in all a perfect slow paced, cool and quiet place to take a break from touring. read more

This restaurant has a gorgeous view if you're near the windows - you can see the whole canal and the gorgeous buildings that encapsulate Strasbourg. We did mention in the reservation that we wanted the table at the river; it did get a little cold - even though there's a heater on the top, there isn't one for your legs. It's traditional Alsatian food, the sauerkraut was one of the best my family has tasted, and the chicken sausage would have to be my favorite. The plates are definitely big portions, so I didn't finish my plate and wish I had shared. Animals are welcome, and the service was great! We chose this restaurant based on the outside appearance as it is situated neatly along the river with a gorgeous view. The wait staff were friendly and we were quickly seated and our dishes arrived shortly after ordering. My wife and I both ordered the chicken with Riesling sauce and Spätzle and we were a little disappointed with the small portion of chicken, although the dish was tasty. My wife and I were visiting from the States. Our hotel room wasn't quite ready so we looked for a place to grab a drink and some food. When we walked in we were greeted by a man and sat immediately. I think we were the first ones in that day. Our server was so incredibly nice to us and we felt so at home. We both got steak and frites and it was so tasty. Au Pont Saint-Martin was one of the first restaurants that we checked out during our short 10-day study abroad trip in Strasbourg. We picked this place due to its location overlooking the river. When we walked inside, we were seated in the back corner, at least a few tables away from the next group. This would be a common occurrence during this trip--probably due to the fact that we are "obnoxious Americans." And it was here that I discovered we really do fulfill those stereotypes in some ways. Our normal banter/laughter was just volumes above any of the French people, and the moment we stopped talking, we realized just how loud we were. Even if this was the case, I definitely didn't appreciate the side glances and lack of "respect," for lack of a better word, we received. The food they served was traditional Alsatian food. As the menu was not in English and there was no helpful waiter around, I needed a little help from Google. I settled on a Flambee (like a flatbread pizza although you're not supposed to make that comparison) with fresh salmon and chive. It was quite flavorful, although after about half I started feeling a little sick of the creaminess. Also, we ended up having to pay for water, so if you don't want to, make sure to ask for tap water. Ask for "no gas," as most European countries tend to drink carbonated water. read more

My wife and I chose this restaurant after the canal tour in Strasbourg. We saw the restaurant near the first lock with the view over the river. We asked to be seated downstairs and although all the tables at the river were taken, our table one row back gave us better view. My wife had the price fix and mixed grill. It was very good and reasonably priced. I had the escargot which was crazy good. My wife who doesn't eat shellfish used the bread to take advantage of the sauce. Really great. My wife and I were staying with family in nearby Riquewihr, France and we all decided a day trip into Strasbourg would be great fun. Of course all the restaurants were crowded and it began to rain - luckily we put in our name at Au Pont Saint Martin and got a table for four adults and three children relatively quickly. We were sat at a beautiful corner open-air roof covered table overlooking the water. Our waiter was friendly and courteous even though it was the busy noon hour and he didn't have tons of time to spend with questions. Of course we all knew what we wanted to order because their reasonably priced menus included both french/german/english language descriptions. The menu was full of French comfort food offerings. Everyone ordered something different from the menu and I had the 1/2 cockerel with Riesling and spätzle. Basically, it's like it reads - chicken in wine sauce with german pasta/dumplings. It was my first time trying spätzle and it was so good I had to share with everyone at the table. They absolutely loved it! Eventually I tried spätzle at several restaurants but it was never as good as what they served up at Au Pont Saint Martin. For dessert I chose Nut and caramel ice cream which was sweet, crunchy and yummy and thankfully served in a decent portion size so I could share with everyone. As it was an open air table and near the end of July, we were exposed to insects. In this case it was a wasp which stung the leg of my 9 year old niece. The poor thing just began screaming in terror and pain. Our waiter came right over to assist and said he had something to take away the sting. He returned with a bottle of bourbon which he dabbed onto a cloth to apply to the sting. He later came back to check on my niece who by this time was in much better shape and was treated to an assortment of complimentary candy for her and her two brothers. Great guy! We then had all kinds of questions for him and he explained he was of Lebanese/French decent and grew up in Strasbourg. I suppose we are a very loud American family and wherever we showed up heads would turn but I found that everyone simply raised the volume of their own voices. There is an upstairs, downstairs, on the water, and outside dining and was actually open when everything else was closing around 2 pm. Touristy but you get the Alsatian favorites Perfect view over the water in La Petit France. Is maybe a bit of a tourist trap but honestly the food is not bad. You'll get your choucroute or Baeckeoffe and it will be tasty and not too expensive. Service can be brusk at times. A consistent place to go for basic Alsatian food with good views. read more

Near the canal locks in Strasbourg is a charming restaurant with a nice terrace and traditional alsatian cuisine. There will be a decent stream of tourists through there but the view is worth dealing with them and the food is good. :-) read more

Our intent was to try the regional cuisine. We started by ordering two different items featuring potato pancakes. Both were good. The salad with Gorgonzola was also very good and very large. The food was good, the service was poor. They just didn't have enough staff and it was very crowded and chaotic. I would go back again during non-busy time . This place is located in a picturesque area next to some canals of some sort. The building looks to be 200 years old inside and out in a charming way. The staff was friendly and polite, and there was no tricks with getting you to buy $5 bottles of tap water. It was professional and no nonsense. I was there alone but the place was fairly packed with tourist groups and couples and it seemed to be a fun environment. The food however, was pretty simple and bland. This was not fine French cooking. It was essentially a baked piece of fish with skin on, with some almonds thrown on the top with some boiled vegetables and cold bread. I was actually still hungry after the meal. But it was only 15 euros, so I think it was fair. I wouldn't really go back there though. read more

We've dined here 4 or 5 times and enjoyed each experience with the various guests we've taken to Strasbourg (we live in Germany). My 4 kids LOVE the escargot, which surprised me but they order and devour every visit. They also have a children's menu. My husband's fave is the foie gras with lentils while I usually convince myself I'm eating healthy with a goat cheese salad and onion soup. Their smoked salmon dishes are above average. Friendly service, though often 1 (highly capable) waiter serves the entire ground floor. French and English spoken. Menus also in German. Windows are opened to the canal view in warmer weather, and outside dining is available. It appears they have a banquet/party floor, though we've never inquired. Beautiful flowers spill out of their many window boxes, visible along the canal, which is how we were first attracted to this charming spot. read more

The waiter flipped out and said that if we weren't going to get food immediately then we'd have to leave, brought us the check and wouldn't even let us finish our drinks in peace.
