Very crowded and busy restaurant, even on a weekday. They have a short and sweet menu with some signature Alsace dishes. We were happy with our meal she would recommend this to anyone who visit Strasbourg.

We were able to snatch a reservation here after recommendations. Food is truly amazing. We started off with the escargots (yummy) the onion tart (if you never tried it, a must) and the herring filet (awesome without being to fishy). Great with the small cubes potatoes. For main course we ordered the pork knuckle (Jambonneau Grille) salmon (Pave de saumon) and two of the Choucroute garnie (local Alsace dish). All very good with the pork knuckle the absolute top. Now on to desert (we saw already some deserts coming by so made sure we kept some space (ie don't eat all the sauerkraut (it truly is a lot)). Here we ordered the ice merengue and chocolate cream. The merengue is an absolute winner. And chocolate cream?? People that don't like chocolate can not be trusted... also great thus. All in all great evening of food.

    Salmon on bread with salad

I had an excellent experience at this restaurant. Before traveling to France, I researched where I was going and found this place on Yelp. It sounded like a great little place to have lunch; it was close to the historic area we were visiting, it got a good rating and it served Alsatian food, which is just what I was looking for. The restaurant looked very old and historic on the outside. When we walked in, we found the interior to be very cozy and comfortable. The wait staff worked with us to translate the menu (we only speak a little French), and we were able to find something we liked. For 34 Euros we got a 2 (3?) course lunch for two and a drink. I thought the value was quite good. We got a small salad, an appetizer and a main course. My appetizer (served on the same plate as my salad) was salmon on a piece of bread. For my main dish, I had choucroute garnie, which is sauerkraut, potatoes, a sausage and 2 slabs of bacon. To me, this is the single dish that best represents Alsatian cuisine, and something I can't get back home, so I was delighted to have this in miniature size for lunch at this restaurant. All in all, the food was great and I was very happy with my lunch here. It could not have gone better, and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about going here.

This place is popular! And for good reason. Had hotel make reservations and we were lucky to get in. The place was packed. Everyone seemed to know the owner. Very friendly staff and delicious food. It was hard to decide so we got the local favorites. Great food. We made reservations for the following night since it was so good.

And when your walking tour guide tells you a fun story about a Michelin-starred restaurant and it's interesting name, you decide to take yourself there. I haven't been to a Michelin-starred restaurant in a very long time and I have never been to one alone, but it was still a lovely experience. The staff was very attentive, kind, and knowledgeable. The food was inventive and enjoyable, though I admit I had a hard time understanding the waitstaff sometimes, so I wasn't always sure what I was eating, but luckily I'm willing to eat anything. I had the discovery menu (appetizer, fish, entree, dessert), 3-course wine pairing, coffee, and the restaurant's "extras" which included some very tasty amuse bouche at the beginning, small desserts with the coffee, and even a cookie to take a home. I did not order from the cheese cart, but it was fun to watch it wheeled out for others. For a Michelin restaurant, I found it very reasonably priced and accessible, though I'm not sure I can say I was completely blown away by the food (wine was fantastic, though). But I did see the crocodile! Which is where the restaurant gets it's name: in the 1800s a sailor came back from Egypt with a stuffed crocodile and had the bright idea to use it as a marketing (who wouldn't want to see a stuffed crocodile?!?)

Such a beautiful restaurant! Amazingly friendly service! And of course delicious food!…read more We were in town for the Christmas market, so it was fun to take a break from being outside and eating mostly from food vendors. We came in for lunch and went with the market menu they were offering. We also ended up adding a cheese course, because when in France! Can't say no to cheese! I don't know if it's the primacy effect, but I loved the first course. It was like a little egg soup dish. So warm and hearty, it was just comforting. Everything else was good too, but the cheese was a major highlight for me. The waiter selected a sampling of cheeses for us from a huge cheese cart. It was fun to watch and see all the cheeses on display.
