Very cosy restaurant with average food. The interior decoration helps make a comfortable and memorable time. During the Christmas season they have a "Linonaire" (a live jukebox w puppets). The prices are a bit cheaper than other similar places nearby. The staff is nice and willing to serve. The tarte flambée is very average and the chicken tasty but not out of the ordinary. Anyways, if you have a choice, go elsewhere, if not, then is fine. read more

Came here with a tour group and honestly just wasn't impressed. The flamkuchen was meh and the wine glasses were very small and was a small serving. It was filled to the very top so spilled a lot. They didn't give us a drink selection so all you could order was by saying, beer, red or white and you got what you got. The drinks took 20 minutes to come out and the salads were delivered... after the meal was delivered. Again we were with a tour group, but the group did call ahead and let them know we were coming and what time is they could be prepared. When the tour guide voiced concern over the quality of service the person answering questions simply answered... she is new... which putting a new waiting staff on a large group is never ideal. I ended up eating something else at a nearby McDonald's. Three stars is only because we were in a group and not in at a random time. read more

Nice Alsatian restaurant where you can try a wide variety of local dishes that blend the cultures of the region into delicious food. It so happens that most of what we ordered came with a lot of cheese and cream sauces, so everything was very hearty and filling. The interior is cozy and felt a bit Bavarian. Food and service were bad. French onion soup was extremely oily, no cheese and tasted odd. Server was eating bread while waiting on a table and kept checking his phone on the floor. This is probably my fault, but I asked for some water (I should've maybe clarified for tap) and was given a bottle for $8. Seemed a bit high regardless and was never asked if I wanted tap. A morning spent here by the cathedral and a boat ride left us needing some lunch. Our guide has been telling us about the Tartes Flambèes. We really enjoyed stopping here. The quaintness of the restaurant got us inside and the food made for a great meal. We split the French onion soup and a mushroom, bacon, ham Tartes Flambèe. This is located very close to church. As I was walking away from the church, I saw this restaurant (patio seating in front entrance), and we just decided to dine at here. So beautiful. Since no one assisted is with seating, we just sitted ourselves in one of the tables in front of the restaurant. We have seated for more than 15 minutes but no one came to service us. So I had to walk inside and grab the menu by myself. While looking through the menu, finally server came to us and took the order. We had no problem order since server know English and menu had English descriptions as well. Food was OK but I can't say it was best tasting. I don't think I would try this restaurant again but the ambiance is just perfect. read more

If you're looking for traditional and hearty dishes, Le Gruber will check that off your list. Le Gruber is more German style food than French and quite heavy on the stomach. The ambiance is warm and comfortable and if you don't feel like German food they offer an Italian restaurant next door. Food took a little long to arrive but they were really busy on a Sunday at lunch. read more

Ever go digging through boxes and been amazed by the stuff you keep? I was going through stuff I held onto from my semester abroad in France and pulled this restaurant's business card out. I kept it because I knew if I ever returned to Strasbourg, I would HAVE to go back here. I went here on at least two occasions and I remember having the choucroute strasbourgeoise (6 different meats) and the Baeckeoffe (3 different meats). Unlike the French, the Germans don't skim you on the portions. Ridiculously good. And not to mention probably the best French onion soup I've ever had. read more

This restaurant was recommended to us by our tour guide. We were very disappointed by the service we received. When we were first seated we waited over 10 minutes for a menu. A couple seated after us we provided a menu and ordered before we even had menus. That same couple had received their good eaten and was paying their check and we had still not received our food. I had to get up and find the waiter to ask where our food was to then still wait for our food. A table that came in 30 minutes after us received their food minutes after we did. Received more of an excuse that he was busy, than an apology. 2 flambés, 2 salads and drinks should jot take 2 hours and 45 minutes. We went in on a Saturday afternoon during their prime hours, so I expected it to be a bit busy. After waiting only 3 minutes to be brought to a table (on the third floor), I expected to be waited on in a timely manner as well. I ordered our drinks but our waiter failed to bring the third drink until I asked again for the fourth time. Other customers came after us and they still got their food 10 minutes before we did. (We weren't the only Americans so there's that...) When the food did arrive, my duck filet was cooked perfectly and it had the most outstanding amount of fat on it. Vegetables actually tasted like vegetables and not some previously-frozen-out-of-the-bag crap. Perfect, perfect date night setting. Beautiful old world charm, friendly (and cute) wait staff, and INCREDIBLE Alsatian cuisine. The onion tarte was light and tasty. The chicken in riesling took my breath away and made my eyes roll to the back of my head. It was pure heaven. My husband had the beef in pepper sauce - I believe I caught him licking the plate clean. The location is ideal and can be a bit touristy but of the 3 places we ate at in the same location Le Gruber outdid them all. Oh, did I mention the cute waiter? :) read more

As a starter I took the aperitif gourmand, three amuses with a glass of muscat wine. The waiter dropped one of the amuses. Instead of taking everything away and getting a new plate of amuses he only took the fallen one, and replaced it with something that seemed to be a variation of the original amuse. Main course was a Flammkuchen with Munster cheese, and I finished with a piece of cheesecake. With the main course I had a nice Riesling. read more

I went by myself around 7:30pm and it was busy but I managed to get seated right away. I thought my French was pretty good but the waitress kept replying in English. Good to know they can speak it I guess. My entrée came out really fast, so fast I was dubious of the quality but it was actually very good once I tried it. I ordered the game meat stew which was tender and the sauce was great too. Ordered dessert, the apfelstrudel, also good but nothing unique. I decided to try this place because I've been looking for french onion soup and luckily I saw it in the menu they posted outside. I always thought that this was a small restaurant with very few tables but I was amazed to see that it was bigger inside. The decorations were touristy but very appealing and the place had a nice comfortable feel to it. My onion soup was good although I had better before and was reasonably priced. I ordered the chicken for my meal and it was pretty tasty. The staff were very friendly also. read more
