I can't remember the last time I was in a Winn Dixie store. We decided to head over after dinner. We walked in about 20 minutes before closing. To our surprise the store was super clean and didn't have that old Winn Dixie store smell I was accustomed to. They have a pretty nice selection of vegan and gluten free items, so I was impressed. The only check out that was open was self check out. There was a girl there who helped with entering my member card and I was on my way. The employees were all very friendly and helpful. The store was super cold, so it made it a little difficult to shop. I also hate "member only" pricing. I haven't shopped in a Winn Dixie store in years, so I don't even know if my card is active. The girl had a "store card" so I was able to get the special pricing. All in all, I would go back to check it out again.

A pork tamale? As the lady told me.

Very disappointed! I used to shop at Wynn Dixie alot, then changed to Publix. I hadn't been to one in few years. But I remembered that they used to have good chicken wings in the Deli area. I went in around 630pm. I asked the lady behind the counter if there were any other wings that were gonna be brought out and she said no, that's it for the day. Which seemed strange being that it was around dinner time. That which was left, was pretty overcooked. Some didn't look as bad and being that I was very hungry, I went ahead and grabbed about 6 pieces. Then I noticed some tamales which were combined into a pan with a roast pork. I asked the lady behind the counter what was in the tamales and she said pork. Which made sense being that they were in the pan with the roast. I took my food to go. The chicken wings were very overcooked and some had a horrible taste of fish! So they may have been cooked in the same oil fish have been cooked in. Then when I opened up the wrapping on the tamale, it didn't look like a tamale at all! There was nothing solid about it! It looked like soup or a cheesy sauce or vomit! There is no way I could eat this! I called right away and informed an associate at the customer service desk Who told me to bring back the containers and my receipt to get a refund. And I did just that although inconvenienced to drive back again. While in the store I walked by the wings in the Deli, they appeared to be the same that day too!

Winn Dixie Mac and Cheese - made of Caroni!

This is a renovated Winn Dixie, so the store is definitely one of the nicer Winn Dixies in Broward County. I think the renovated store in Coral Springs is much nicer but this is not too shabby - and the people who work there are professional and good natured. Tonight we made a quick stop for wings from their wing bar (they had BACON wings - I never heard of that but they really did taste of bacon!) and an $8 entree comprised of a protein and 2 sides. We each got prime rib, a salad made of fresh corn, and mac and cheese. Well, we won't be doing that again because while the meat had been tender on past visits tonight it was very tough; the corn was overcooked and flavored with lots of vinegar (why would they do that to fresh, sweet corn?), and the mac and cheese was a mushy mess. But THIS was worth the price of admission! I saw these two signs on the BBQ Bar near the wing bar. One is for white mac and cheese - made of Caroni and the other is for seasoned white rice - made of water and flour. YOU JUST CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP! Winn Dixie - who knew it was such a great source of humor?!!!

Paranormal Publix -…read more According to Waze, this was the closest Publix to our hotel at Holiday Inn Express and Suites N Executive Airport, about 17 minutes away. I did some research on places that sold ready-made food because eating out every night gets super expensive, not only that, we were very tired and jet lagged and didn't want to get dressed and go driving around looking for somewhere to eat. This particular location was on University Avenue (very busy) and at times my knuckles turned white on the steering wheel but I made it into the parking lot in once piece. There was a nice section of ready-made foods like potato salads, sandwiches, California rolls, soups, and curiously a container of "butterscotch pudding" in the middle of the savory stuff. I don't know why I didn't take a photo, because the night before my husband said I was talking in my sleep and I said "oh yummy, butterscotch pudding" - which was super strange because normally when I talk in my sleep it's 99% unintelligible. I have never seen butterscotch pudding ready-made to eat in my life before. Very strange. I wandered around and saw a line of people at the deli, so I followed. It was a hot deli where you could buy a half or a whole sandwich. As I was in line, the guy before me just turned his entire body completely 180 to stare at me. STARE. For seconds, just stood there and stared. I dared not look at him because he looked frightening. I wish my husband was here, but he was snoring back at the hotel. I ordered both of us half-sandwiches, which were very good by the way (me - veggie, husband - hot honey chicken). I believe half a chicken sandwich was in the neighborhood of about $7.00, very reasonable. Publix also carries gourmet cheese, exotic orchids, hard to find fruits like the Florida Pineberry, which I managed to snag for dessert. It was scary driving there, being there, and returning in rush hour traffic but we saved a lot of money and enjoyed the moderately cheap eats, including wine.

Plenty of parking at this Plantation Publix. Came here to cash my FL Lotto tickets and of course…read morebrowse the coffee deals. BOGO deals on Dunkin' Iced Coffee. I love Aldi and Trader Joe's and it makes sense because they have two German brothers in common…read more The abbreviated history is that Aldi's and Trader Joe's were owned by the two brother's who fell out over whether or not to sell cigarettes. In 1962, they introduced the name Aldi, short for Albrecht-Diskont, which translates into English as Albrecht Discount. The company split into Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord, which operate thousands of stores in Europe, the United Kingdom and Australia. Aldi Süd controls the U.S. chain of Aldi stores while Aldi Nord operates in the U.S. as Trader Joe's. ALDI opened its first U.S. store in Iowa in 1976 and now has more than 2,200 stores and is headquartered in Batavia, Illinois. While Trader Joe's has great prices, Aldi will beat them and just about everyone else's prices every time. You can still signs of that German heritage all over Aldi's like in their German line of products called Deutsche Kuche, which offers offers beer, chocolate, roasted coffee, and uncured Bavarian bratwurst. If you want to save money on groceries, Aldi's is a great way to do it. In order to bring you those low prices Aldi's has instituted some cost cutting measures. If you want a cart you will need to bring a quarter and to get your money back you need to return your cart from the parking lot back to the store saving employees from having to collect the carts. You will also have to bring your own bags or pay for theirs. Sometimes I'll just grab one of their empty boxes. Lines used to be long in store because they keep their staff to a bare bones minimum but since they added self checkout I rarely wait in line anymore. I was at Sawgrass Mills Mall and needed a few items so I popped into this location near the mall on Sunrise Blvd. There are now 208 Aldi locations throughout Florida so there is always one near by when I need it. The store was clean and well organized. I was able to easily grab what I needed and I had fun checking out the new Aisle of Shame inventory where they have a lot of cleaning products and exercise equipment in anticipation of the new year. My new favorite Aldi product is the Coconut Hydration Electrolytes Blue Mix Sticks in the blue raspberry flavor. They are only 15 calories and make your water taste delicious. Thanks to them I'm carrying my Owala with me wherever I go. I also love that this Aldi had the self checkout that allowed me to get out quickly and on my way to my next adventure.

FOOD SHOPPING RED ALERT…read more.. Lots of people I know swear by the Aldi cheap food prices so this is my first Aldi adventure to see if this is truth or fable. At first glance as I enter the vestible, are a long stacknof LOCKED, shopping carts that have .25 cents imprinted on the top of the cart to rent. Then if you return the cart you are reimbursed the quarter. Also, there are no shopping bags provided. The store is much smaller than Publix but it seems to be easily navigated with wide aisles and the food sections are largely displayed on the walls. The prices for similar Publix or Winn Dixie items seem slightly lower on most items. Looking for a simple seeded rye bread was a failure, although, they did offer a large variety of private and recognizable national brands. The beer section was fully stacked and noticed that the prices were extremely competitive. The best deals were the bags of mini avocados for $3.69 instead of the competition price of $5.19 or one gallon of whole milk by Friendly Farms for $3.02. I grabbed a bag of avocados and walked to the self checkout and noticed they dont accept cash, so paid the low price on my credit card and left. After the completion of this shopping project, I would have to agree that there are deep discounted deals here and many reviewers were correct.
