Was a Dedicated Supporter.
My daughter's health (9 years old) got compromised fast. I have eaten from Kobs Green Market many times, so my kids started eating here also. My mistake was thinking everything that is organic is always safe to eat. The most dissatisfaction I have experienced at Kobs Green was a salty breakfast bacon. That did not stop me from supporting a small business, especially how nice and clean the place is kept. I simply said I'll just order something different next time. I continued to support, but ordered less cooked meals out of fear of the food being salty again and sending up my pressure. I continued to shop there getting groceries like teas, and the UpTime Mango and Pineapple.
The next visit to Kobs ended with my 9-year-old daughter in the emergency room a day before her 10th birthday party, hooked up to an IV and a nebulizer machine, with a team of doctors and nurses around her working to get her pulse rate below the 123 beats per minute, stop her lungs from developing mucus, and make the swelling go down.
Her birthday party was scheduled for Sunday, February 18. And, because she is allergic to egg whites, decided to get a little cupcake at Kobs Green Market. I called baby girl on the phone, but she was probably busy playing, so I sent her a text message about the glass enclosure of cakes and asked her which one she would like. She called me back and said she would like the Pumpkin Spice bundt cake. She was so excited. I keep sweets at a minimum (with complete avoidance of high fructose and embrace wholesome, organic foods). I then went to Publix and picked up the main birthday cake. She is still mildly allergic to egg whites, so she can't eat a regular cake just yet. And, seeing as though Kobs desserts are plant-based, it seemed like a good fit. She is highly allergic to cashews. So, I'm always checking ingredients and am consistent with what I give her and teach her how to discern the best food options when I am not around, like choosing her lunch options at school. I then dropped the cakes at home to the kids, and ran back out around the block to get gas so I wouldn't have to gas up on the day of the party. My older daughter and their dad were home also.
I returned 10 minutes later. My older daughter said her tummy hurts and she is in the bathroom after I cut out a piece of the blunt cake (I brought 2 blunt cakes). With a puzzling look, I asked okay? What could be in the bundt cake, it has pumpkin in it. She's not allergic to pumpkin. We eat pumpkin all the time. My husband asked if I could run back out and get some pepto bismol. As I was reversing (maybe one minute later), my older daughter ran out to the car and said she doesn't look good. She got off the toilet and went to lay down and I saw bumps around her neck, so I gave her Benadryl. Now, I'm like what???? I just went around the corner to get gas and all this already in less than 15 minutes??? We all then proceeded to go to Walgreens to get liquid Pepto Bismol and so the pharmacy can take a physical look at her. I purchased $60+ of OTC stuff for the allergic reaction.
But, as we crossed the parking lot 10 minutes later (from leaving the house, arriving at Walgreens, talking to the pharmacy to departing Walgreens) she started itching and twitching and couldn't sit still in the car and started whimpering and moaning and frantically itching. I lifted up her shirt and she had bumps all over her stomach and spreading down towards her legs. Her neck was turning into welts, her ears were swollen. I jumped into the car and rushed her to the nearest Emergency Room. They took her right in, and completed registration afterward. Hooked her up on an IV and after Q and A explained that they need to give her another dose of Benadryl 1 hour after the one she had at home, as one hour is the minimum time to pass in between Benadryl doses. She received the second dose of Benadryl in her IV at 6:30 pm. They also had to give her Pepcid and Decadron and explained that the combination of all 3 provides a much more powerful antihistamine. An x-ray of her lungs was conducted and then they explained that she needed to get on the Nebulizer and had to give her a round of albuterol as her chest started to cough up green mucus. Afterwards, she was beginning to vomit and the nurse told me that some people can taste the medicine (going through her IV). After that episode passed, she started to relax, her heart rate slowed down. Then came another episode of seeing her heart beat pulsate at her neck. I went to get the nurse and told her I know what that means. She explained it is called compounding pulse, and it is okay. Baby girl began to fall asleep and the whelps began to go down. She then began to shake in her sleep as the IV can be cold and made her cold. They gave her a warm blanket.
