Getting a couple spots to sit was also easy. Getting and keeping anyone's attention was not as easy. It was a busy-ish Trivia Tuesday and they seemed to be well staffed but both people behind the bar that we tried to make contact with breezed past us a lot. Despite that, we did eventually try the $5 margaritas which packed a nice punch. We also went with a pepperoni wrapped and deep fried cheese stick. Clearly not a premade product from somewhere else...the sauce was great while the cheese stick lacked pepperoni flavor even though we clearly saw some in there. It was more boring flavor wise than expected but a really great concept! Our Foo pizza was ordered without the cilantro but also arrived without the jalapeños. Again, another great concept but this one lacked on the execution side of things. Not enough BBQ sauce at all (I'm not a huge sauce girl, but this was way too light), soooo many fried onion strings clumped together (and I love fried onions...soooo), missing the spicy component in error.... But the crust was great and cooked nicely, the pulled pork was delicious when you found a bite, the bacon cooked perfectly and the pineapple portion was good. Why four stars instead of three? Clearly they're using quality ingredients. This is huge to me! Restaurant felt, looked and smelled clean. Conceptually they've got some awesome menu items that make me want to come back and we already mentioned to friends of ours. And the drinks were solid. We will take a different approach next time and hopefully add this one to the rotation.

Now, having a restaurant option that is 5 minutes away is a welcome treat. We went in on a Wednesday evening. It was late, probably too late to take our kiddo out, but this time of year is busy. After a day full of school and sports, we needed dinner. Papa Magoos was on our way home, so we gave it a shot. I walked in and almost immediately wanted to leave. It was 8 p.m. on a Wednesday night, there were maybe 15 people in the restaurant area, and there was a DJ blasting tunes loud enough that you couldn't have a conversation at your own table. Kind of an odd play for a Wednesday night, but maybe I'm just too old. Fortunately, we asked the waitress if we could sit in the side room with some video games - a much quieter area. Another couple had their kids there and all of the kids bonded over the hockey table. Service was great - our waitress was very attentive, honest about recommendations, and didn't steer us wrong. For an appetizer, we started with cheese curds paired with their ranch, buffalo, and marinara. Let me tell you - the cheese curds were a solid 8 out of 10 - but the portion size was huge. It's by far the largest order of curds we have ever received. I almost wished it was smaller because they were so good we ate the whole order - and it was just too much! All of the sauces were delicious. After those curds, my wife and I decided to split eight wings and fries, and the kiddo got a hot dog off of the kids menu. The bone-in the wings were served naked, as in just fried with skin on - no breading. The wings were enormous - and after those curds, we ate only two. We got four tossed in buffalo and four plain, with Garlic Parmesan and Mango Habanero on the side. The buffalo is a bit nontraditional looking, but it's excellent. The Mango Habanero was also nontraditional looking, but it was decent as well - but don't expect a lot of heat; it's sweeter, and the buffalo was hotter. The Garlic Parm was my least favorite, but it wasn't bad. We had to order a basket of fries on the side - which was entirely too much, but the fries are really good - straight cut, done a bit well and topped with some kind of salty seasoning and parsley. The kid's hot dog was not bad - it was served on a bun that was just a bit too big and fancy for my 6-year-old, and the hot dog itself was either overcooked or had a tough skin that I had to cut with a knife for him. Either way, it tasted good and came with a generous portion of fries. Two fountain drinks, a water, and a 20% tip came out to $60. It's not the cheapest, but that's the world we live in today. I could have saved $8 or so by not getting the huge order of fries with the wings. I've been taking a break from alcohol for a bit - but I did notice they had a slightly above par selection of craft beer on draft. Mostly IPAs, but at least it's not just Green Line from Goose. They had selections from Buckle-Down, Lagunitas, Revolution, and cans from Will County, among others. Don't worry, all your favorite macro lagers are here too. Papa Magoos definitely exceeded expectations - and I'll be back to try different things on the menu. Bonus that it's a short drive away in an area that is pretty much a desert of restaurant
