Terrible management and customer service.. I ordered three meals at noon and was told my food would be ready at 5:45pm. I showed up early, waited in line behind many others for half an hour. Once I got to pay for my food, I was told to wait for some more time. I waited 20 more minutes to only find out that they started preparing my order once I suggested that I would refund. They wouldn't communicate with the customers waiting in line, nor were they willing to check on specific customers orders until they wanted refunds for missing the game. read more

Once I got there to pick up my order, I asked if I can make the the dc-3 into a combo(hang glider) cause I didn't want to pay extra when buying the fries/soda separately. Horrible, horrible, horrible service. We placed an order on Super Bowl Sunday at 1 o'clock as it was snowing and we wanted them to have plenty of time. They took the order and took the money. They were going to use a delivery service (which we were paying a ridiculous amount of money ($50) for) but wanted to make sure we had it for the game as we do this every year. At 6 o'clock Wings Over Somerville canceled everything. They said they would not make the order - even though Door Dash would deliver it! They said they were too backed up with orders and rather than take our large order that was made early, they were not going to make any more tonight. Now they're not picking up their phone (they must be behind and telling others that they cannot get their orders that they took earlier, too). Rather than stop taking orders at 3 or 4 o'clock and delivering those people who placed orders early, they have canceled ours? Totally unacceptable. Most restaurants use the term "wings" with poetic license and an order includes a mix of cheap chicken drums with actual chicken wings, usually diluting the wings in 50-50 proportion, more or less. We've all come to accept this, rip off that it is. Wings over Somerville takes that gambit to whole new level: 100% cheap chicken drums, no delicious chicken wings at all. The thick layer of salt didn't help. Change the name to "Salty as Fuck Drums over Somerville" and I'd be cool with it. When we complained about it we were told we were being too literal, that drums are wings. Sign of the Times. Freedom is Slavery, etc. You can't avoid the Times but you can steer clear of this place. read more

Wings Over Somerville uses quality white meat in their boneless wings, and they're cooked perfectly before being tossed in the sauce of your choice. One of the nice things about Wings is that if you order a pound of the boneless, you can get two different flavors. Even if you have a favorite, subscribe to this policy and try to sample every variety. The sides are solid but not spectacular, though the waffle cut fries are worth trying. The ONLY negative thing I have to say is ever since switching from their own delivery drivers to using shady companies like Doordash, I've been forced to drive and pickup the food myself. We just wasted an hour tonight waiting for some idiot from doordash to deliver our food. Supposedly the food arrived earlier than expected and my phone goes into do not disturb mode after 10 pm automatically, so naturally, I never got the phone calls. Whatever happened to "ring the f****** doorbell"???? Doordash is also supposed to at least leave the food on the front porch if they can't deliver it and it was nowhere to be found. I'm hungry, we get hangry, and after screaming at the call center guy somewhere in fucking India about the order, we got our refund. Now, after wasting an hour and hungrier than ever, I just called them directly, they very quickly took down my order, said it would be ready in 30-40 minutes, and costs $5 less than ordering through Doordash. Long story short, I still love this place, I just hate Doordash. If they bring back their old delivery system, they'll get 5 stars instead of just 4. Again, DO NOT USE DOORDASH!!! The deliver driver will never ring your doorbell, they won't leave your food if they "can't" deliver it, and you'll have to waste more time on hold with them to get a refund. I have tried their other flavors over the years but don't remember them enough to comment. I only get the boneless option at Wingsover although I have had their bone in wings and they are average. I just find the value to be in their boneless option. Just so you know this is the only place besides McDonalds where I get boneless chicken. When you order "boneless wings", you get one of three things: 1: the breaded flat weird chicken "strip". not really a boneless wing at all. also, it's horribly disgusting. 2: the thinner, little "chunks" of chicken that, when viewed as a whole looks promising, but when eaten feels a little light. 3: pickle sized thick juicy hunks of chicken meat slathered in the sauce of your choice. Type 3 is the best, and type 3 is what you get from Wings Over Somerville. The only other place I have found that does type 3 better is Brookline SPA on Harvard Ave in Brookline, and thats on the other side of the river now. Wings Over Somerville also lets you order what you like online, and it shows up like 18 minutes later. Its filling. And like a Snickers, it's satisfying. And they have lots of flavors. I will say this, thought, I got the Garlic Parmesan boneless wings once and was burping up Garlic Parmesan for the next 18 hours. Your results may vary. read more

I almost had a heart attack the other night trying to find Wings Over Somerville on my phone in a 1 mile radius and nothing was coming up. But, the wing sauce was flavorful, even if I did order the "wimpy" with a side of the 2nd buffalo sauce which was definitely more spicy than the wimpy. I had always been a fan of "Wings Over (insert city here)" ever since they invaded Brookline nearly a decade ago. They were a go-to staple of mine when going out with friends as the chicken was tender, delicious and the numerous sauces were all a hit. They weren't all that healthy, but it was college... Then the quality went downhill about 6 years ago and being more health conscious as well, I decided to go there only occasionally. Now I live far away enough from any location to only go there once a year, if that. Last night was such a night. Two friends of mine and I, fresh from a trip to the nearby Aeronaut Brewery decided to walk over to this location to get us some wings to go. I ordered a DC-10, which is about a pound of chicken. This option is great because you can get two sauces instead of one. Fast forward a couple of minutes and we all placed our orders and waited... and waited... and wait. Then my friend's order finally came even though he ordered after me. Eventually mine came about fifteen minutes after that. No apologies or nothing from the staff. We must have stood there for nearly forty minutes. We were good sports and never said a thing to the staff, but they clearly didn't care. They were too busy dicking around behind the counter, talking, texting and ignoring everything else going on around them. They weren't rude or anything but they clearly didn't care. I didn't touch my wings until I got back home to Waltham. I was super excited to get my two favorite flavors: Mustang Ranch and West Texas Mesquite, which are both dry rubs. I also paid extra for the celery and extra blue cheese which they were more than happy to nickel and dime me for. I knew that coming in though so I can't argue that. Excited, I got home, kicked my shoes off, turned on the TV and opened the styrofoam container. It smelled great but then I took a bite. And another. And then realized that this was so incredibly salty that it was basically inedible. It tasted like salt. Salt and a bit of the dry rubs. It was so salty that it was almost as if I was chewing on ramen seasoning packets. I tried to douse my wings in as much blue cheese sauce as possible to try and get them down but only managed to eat about 3-4 wings and threw out the rest. I'm not 100% sure what happened to the quality of this chain but it's been going downhill for a while now and there's no sign of them turning anything around. They've become complacent and frankly, even though their chicken is top notch, the sauces and dry rubs have become garbage. I'd be hard pressed to return again. It's a shame really as their various offerings are enticing and their sauces are varied and unique enough that it could keep people coming back for more. But not me, I've learned my lesson now. Every time I return, I just end up disappointed and missing the good old days from about 8 or 9 years ago when they were awesome. It's a shame. read more

Stared at the menu for what seemed like hours because everything is in some kind of crazy code and I'm not a member of the Air Force. Do I want the F-16 or the Concorde? A DC-3 or a Skycruiser? And what the hell does any of this mean?! Once deciphered, an order of a full rack of ribs, 10 buffalo wings ("puddle jumper"), and a small onion rings (no fries for me! If Tracee says they're not all that great, I believe her!) was placed and received in about 30 minutes. My stomach was delighted. The ribs were the meat-falling-right-off-the-bone kind, wings were crispy and saucy, onion rings crunchy and... uh, onion-y (in a delicious way).
