Last Sunday we held a benefit for our friend and co-worker Ryan Lomax, who was diagnosed with…read morecancer this past September. Ryan has been struggling with being off work and supporting his eight children along with himself. So we chose our Venue...Rusty's Sports Lounge...when we first approached them about having the benefit the Event Co-coordinator suggested that they had a deal that we could have a all you can eat burger buffet for 21.95 each which included the tax and gratuity and that we could add on a price for the benefit to raise money... so we went for it charging $30.00 a ticket, $21.95 for the food and $8.00 for Ryan. On the Thursday before the benefit, they called for a number for the amount of people who were coming. As we were not sure we said possibly 100 people, as people said they would be there and wanted to buy the ticket when they arrived...so when we got there on Sunday, I let them know that we had sold 47 tickets, and was informed that we had to pay for the other 53 plates. ...okay so people arrived between 4:00 and 5:00, since we now had to wait for the buffet, orders were made for appy's from the menu. The food was put out at 6:30 which was two large bowls of lettuce, one romaine and the other mixed...a bowl each of relish, mustard, onions and tomatoes. Two choices of salad dressing, fries and gravy. The burgers were given out like we were in a soup line by the server. Only one burger each even though we were about to pay for the other 53. A few of the guests who went for the second burger were turned away and told only one per guest. so....the food is out for an hour, taken back to the kitchen and thrown out. The food could have been packaged up and Ryan could have used it for his kids...We continued with our evening raising money from the Silent Auction and twoonie toss. So now the kicker of all...we are handed a bill for $2700.00. This was now 100 x 21.95, 5%GST 109.75 and a tip at 18% of $395.00. We now had been double charged for the tip and tax, The event coordinator could not wait for us to count out the cash, and when we hadn't raised the $2700.00 Jamie had to pay the other $140.00. When we talked to the owner saying that this was a Benefit for a family and that we should not have been charged this amount, he agreed to donate $300.00 to the Benefit, however we still feel over charged... So not one of us will ever darken the doors of Rusty's Sports Lounge. By the way a Burger off the menu is $16.99, add 5% $1.10 and 18% tip $3.95 equals $22.05...the pub lost a whole $0.10 on each burger...gee $10.00

Clancy's Pub - Non cascading, petroleum tasting Guinness in a can. This can must have sat in their storage for years. DISGUSTING!

First, same agitated servers from the previous owner. New owners seem to like catering to the regulars. Place hasn't changed other than it getting worse. Also, they no longer have dark or amber beers, just light beers. I tried ordering a Richard's Red before, they got rid of it., Naramata Nut Brown, nope, so I settled on a canned Guinness; what can go wrong you ask? Well, I stepped out to grab something from my vehicle, 30 seconds max.,when I got back, the beer was at my table. Now, I know how a Guinness should look once it's poured, I ordered it dozens of times from other reputable establishments; once poured, hopefully in front of you, the widget in the can activates the nitrogen gas and you have the cascading effect in the glass; Nope nothing. Even the head looked soapy. I asked the server about it and she told me that she just opened it. No cascading effect, no decent head, tasted like petroleum. Even one of the owners mentioned that the Keg pour was better than the cans, not likely. He doesn't know what he's talking about. Long story short, crabby servers, unknowledgeable owner, sad atmosphere and unclean facility. If you're looking for an old school, uneventful pub, this is the place. If you're looking for a half decent pub, go up the street, The Hub, Slackwater and Neighborhood Brewing are always better options. Haply drinking!

It was the only open table, no one was sitting at it. It was two tables pushed together, it easily could have been two tables for four each, or as set up, it was a table for six. I went inside the restaurant and asked at the bar if it's ok to take an open table. There was a server and the bartender present. They both said yes. I went out and sat at the table. Another gal came and apologized that the table needed cleaning. She wiped the table and removed two empty beer bottles, two half full bottles and an empty plate. She told me my server will be right out. I thanked her. Shortly thereafter, she returned with two men. The men sat at the table and the gal told me I couldn't sit there as the table belonged to these men. One of the men was a bit rude, so, not wanting confrontation I got up and went into the restaurant. My wife arrived at this point. I told them this wasn't ok. I was offered a table inside and they apologized. The restaurant inside was very loud/noisy. I didn't want an inside table; besides, how would I know that any other table offered wouldn't end up the same way? I told the bartender that I'm not ok with how they are handling this. The excuse given is that the men went for a smoke. They abandoned the table. No coat, no food at the table, it appeared empty/abandoned by whomever had used it last. If the men had just gone for a smoke, why was I given permission to sit there, why was the table cleared for me, and why was I told a server would be with me shortly? Additionally, why weren't the two tables separated to accommodate everyone? We spoke to a server and the bartender and when we asked to speak to a manager, they called her, but she never did come to talk to us. She was busy with another table. I speculate something was wrong there too. It seems they were too busy to provide appropriate service. Beware, if you go to dine there, you may be asked to vacate your table? We chose to leave because of how this was handled. It seems there are challenges with staff/service here. (None of the staff identified themselves and there were no name tags)

Beer choices weren't great nor were the cocktails - all weird gen z fruity slushy junk. Service was not taht attentive. The real thing here is that if you have Canadian in your name you better make a damn good Caesar. They do have 5 variations but they should just try to make ONE decent one. I had the single most disgusting Caesar I have ever had in my life. The rimmer was vile, the drink nasty and tasted nothing like Clamato. The worst part was we were told they are out of house vodka due to the strike so we had to pay more for premium top shelf vodka. I was at bar last week with the same situation and they offer top shelf at no extra charge, That's how to run a business. The TVs were the ink6 good thing really.

To begin with, the bartender failed to warn us about the extra charges for the tastings. As a result, we ended up with a much higher bill than we anticipated, which left a bad taste in our mouths. While it was not explicitly stated as included or not, I feel like the server could have warned us that it would cost us more money. Onto the experience, normally the MSRP of the experience was $20 per person for 4 shots of liquor to try - which is an alright proposition on the surface. However, the liquor wasn't particularly top shelf, most of it was very generic - Titos, Belvedere, etc. Then, you are basically standing in an industrial cooler thats about 10 by 6 feet for 10-15 minutes pounding down shots with a giant fan whirring to keep everything cool. Not exactly the experience that would make it particularly enjoyable or relaxing unfortunately. Thankfully the experience was mostly complimentary, but I don't think I would have felt it was worth it had I had paid full price. It's a shame because I had to travel from the lower mainland for it and I was an anticipated event, which didn't pan out.
