Upon arrival, we were quickly greeted by the hostess and seated without a wait. Within no time, the server arrived with water and gave us time to look over the menu. It is a relatively large menu with lots of options so I appreciated the extra time. For my entree, I decided to go with the Grilled Blackened Catfish which came with a bed of dirty rice and a salad. While waiting for our food, the server brought out a basket of bread rolls which were very tasty. After a relatively short wait, our food was delivered. While the catfish was not as blackened as I prefer, it was flavorful. My friend ordered the chicken fried steak and he thoroughly enjoyed it. That entree comes with 3 sides and give the size of the chicken fried steak, it makes for a lot of food. When it comes to service, everyone was friendly and welcoming which I aalways appreciated. The space is fairly large and seating consists of table/chair combos along with several booths. Additionally, there is a bar area in the back of the restaurant with seating. Based on what I could see, the bar appeared to be fully stocked. There are also a few TVs in the bar area. Overall, I was pleased with my first visit here and will definitely return to try other things on the menu.

My daughter has to get a patty every time we visit, and I never leave without one of their homemade juices. The owner is always friendly and welcoming whenever I see him, which keeps me coming back. The food is consistently worth the wait and worth every penny. Speaking of waits, service can be a little slow at times, so I recommend calling ahead or visiting when you're not in a rush. It makes the experience much more enjoyable. The only reason I'm giving a strong 4 stars instead of 5 is the customer service from some of the staff. While not everyone falls into this category, many of the employees can come across as a bit reserved. Once you engage with them, they're usually pleasant, but a few more smiles and a warmer atmosphere would really elevate the experience. I'd love to walk in one day and feel the vibrant, welcoming island energy reflected throughout the restaurant. That said, I'll definitely keep coming back for those wings!

I had the catfish nuggets they are extremely well seasoned and had the perfect crispness to them. I was extremely impressed with the fresh cut french fries. The fries are not frozen! You could tell the potatoes were cut fresh and fried in that definitely comes through in the flavor. I can never understand why so many restaurants use a frozen french fry :-( however Rico's uses fresh cut fries! :-) so no need to be disappointed in some other restaurants said Frozen fries, just come to Rico's and enjoy in house fresh cut french fries! I was very impressed with the remodel of the restaurant, the decor was much more modern in up-to-date and the restaurant is extremely clean. It is nothing like the previous business in this location when it comes to cleanliness and decor. They have done an amazing job turning around that building in putting in a very modern well decorated in extremely clean restaurant in that space. I am anxious to go back and try some of the new Mexican food dishes on the menu. Rico's is a definite place for lunch or dinner. To be completely honest we did try the breakfast and was not impressed at all, we will not be back for breakfast. But for dinner we are 100% going to be there again! The fried catfish in the fresh cut french fries absolutely cannot be missed. They now serve chips and salsa at the table when you come in, the chips are fresh made in house, and are very good. The chips are extremely thin and crispy and you can still see the hot glistening oil because they're freshly made right before they're brought out to the table. The hot sauce is excellent! But be cautious because the two times that we've had it it was extremely spicy. :-) but then I love a very spicy hot sauce so I was in heaven! The hot sauce has great flavor!! Once I go back and try the Mexican food on the menu I'll update this review. Definitely make a point of coming and trying Rico's and supporting a new family owned restaurant in South Irving. You will not regret eating here!
