There are good doctors, and there are exceptional doctors. Tucked away in a small building in Chinatown, in a busy non-descript office, sits one of the best-kept secrets in New York's medical community. I have only hesitated to post this review because it is already a busy office that could only get more so if people realized what a unique gem Dr. Tsang is. I've been a patient of Dr. Tsang for a decade now and his diligent care is the reason I switched from using him as an acupuncturist to making him my primary physician (as well as my wife's and we're waiting for our son to be old enough to make the switch). Some of the negative reviews talk about the small office and busy practice but it is largely a symbol of how careful and value-oriented Dr. Tsang is. If you're coming here expecting fancy lobbies and multiple attendants just sitting around, it's not the place for you. However, if you want top-notch care with a doctor who will take the time to fully understand your health situation (and not just what you're coming in for), assess possible options available ranging from eastern to western medicine, and then make a judgment that will leave you feeling better quickly, then this is the place for you. After a string of horrible care on what would eventually be diagnosed as a chronic condition, I walked into Dr. Tsang's office initially dubious as to what acupuncture could do. Dr. Tsang not only treated me for the pain at the time but made a diagnostic that many specialists had failed to see and sent me to an emergency room, saving my life in the process. It could be considered a lucky fluke. After 10 years of going to Dr. Tsang, I can say, it wasn't. Every time I've gone there, Doctor Tsang has figured out what needed to be done and done it. My experiences, and my wife's, have let us recommend Dr. Tsang to all our friends. We make a lot of recommendations but few have been quite as popular as Dr. Tsang, with people often telling us that he had miraculously cured pain they had had for months or years. read more

Dr Tsang is great. I have been going for Accupuncture on and off for about 10 years. Because he's also a board certified MD, he bills insurance as a primary care physician. First and foremost, I am not a patient of Dr. Tsang's but an Intern. I think I qualify enough to leave a review. I see the doctor goes in and out of the rooms helping patients non-stop helping with their problems and as well as calling his patients and being attentive to their needs on the phone throughout the day. As an intern, I called out sick one day, he found time during his busy schedule to ask me what was wrong and if he can help in anyway. Not only a great doctor but also a great mentor. Terrible. Avoid at all costs. I only went to this doctor bc my usual doctor was on holiday and I was directed here as the back up while she was out of town. I cannot begin to describe all the things that went wrong. I was told I could come by and didnt need an appointment. I was told to come by any time and the wait would be only 10-15 mins. I came in the middle of my work day and waited 45 Min to be put into a closet of an examination room, only to be told it would be another 45 mins before the doctor could see me. 1.5hours before anything was done to me. They need to do a better job of managing expectations. The facilities are also substandard/dirty and their bedside manners are truly appalling. The nurse asked me with the examination door wide open with other patients just a few feet away, what my WEIGHT AND HEIGHT was. Quite mortifying you can imagine. read more

I absolutely appreciate that Dr. Wing Tsang utilizes BOTH eastern and western medicine (the more tools in your tool box the better!). His approach is matter of fact and has your interest, both health and financial (the woes of american health insurance). He answers your questions to the point and explains everything so you can understand each step and his reasoning. He helped me several times from my allergies to a neck spasm and either immediately felt the results to a steady progression of getting better. Yes there are complaints about the front desk and time etc, but do keep in mind you're going to Chinatown vs an Upper West Side. I want to give this doctor a 1 star just to keep people away from the best doctor place I been to. However, I guess I shouldn't do any harm to keep him in business. Only bad thing about this place is it's too far up and only one elevator used by the whole building. walking up isn't really a choice since it's at 8th floor or something. Beside this, the place is very easy to get an appointment. "hint: I felt sick today, can I have an appointment asap or in a hour?" They are very accommodating especially dr. Z. Dr. Tsang is by far the best doctor I have ever had. For some reason, December was not a good month for me in terms of health issues but I feel very fortunate be in such good hands. Dr. Tsang goes above and beyond for his patients and is unbelievably compassionate. For example, on Christmas eve I called Dr. Tsang from work and complained about head pains and an extremely swollen lymph node by my ear. He told me to come in immediately. I got there during his lunch break, but I decided to just sit and wait for an hour. By chance, Dr. Tsang came out of his office and didn't even hesitate to see me, even though it was his lunch hour. Wow! I ended up having shingles and if he didn't tell me to come in asap, I would not have been able to take the anti-viral medicine in time for it to have any benefits. It appeared that the shingles also infected my eye as well and he told me it was imperative to for me to see an ophthalmologist that day. I was not very optimistic considering it was Christmas Eve, but Dr. Tsang told me not to worry and that they would call around until they found someone that was available to see me. They also made sure that the ophthalmologist was covered by my health insurance. His front desk staff also made sure to provide me with a referral (even though I don't need referrals for my insurance) just in case my insurance gave me any trouble. I was really astounded by the level of care that they provided. Dr. Tsang seemed very concerned and even asked me to update him after I visited the eye doctor. After this whole experience, there is no other doctor that I would want to go to. Also, his acupuncture treatment to help deal with the pain of shingles has been remarkable! read more

Love this place! He knows what he is doing. I used to have a sciatica but after 3-4 treatments I don't have back pain anymore! I used to go to many acupuncture places but mostly Chinese acupuncturists don't have licenses and they don't even speak English at all. I have had acupuncture many times but I chose Dr Tsang because I was looking for someone qualified in both Western and Eastern medicine for my allergies and also because of the glowing reviews. Arrived at 3:50 for 4pm appointment. A very busy waiting room for just one doctor! Was told to go to room 3 at 4:40. Almost an hour after arriving. Waited in the tiny, sterile room with the door closed for another 10 minutes, couldn't take anymore and came out for air. Dr Tsang has 3 rooms where he sees 3 patients simultaneously, He was running between rooms. He finally came in to see me, took about 2 minutes to speak to me about my allergy symptoms and then said that he has a treatment for me and to lie back. He then proceeded to get the tub of needles out. I asked if by treatment he meant acupuncture and he said yes, but don't worry, we only use the needles once!! Now good thing I am very familiar with acupuncture but would have been terrified if this was my first time. He didn't even insert needles on all the energy points where others have done for me previously. Back 20 minutes later, removed needles, told me not to walk under any trees, to eat honey and come back on Tuesday and he was gone!! I tried asking about some symptoms but he couldn't get out fast enough. I then went to make an appointment with the less than charming receptionist, she told me Wednesday or Thursday, made an appointment for Wednesday and then was told that they only take cash. WHEN I MENTIONED THAT NO ONE TOLD ME THIS ON THE PHONE, HER REPLY WAS, "YOU DIDN'T ASK. I then went back down to a bank machine, came back, paid and told them to cancel my appointment. Dr. Tsang is such an amazing doctor! He saw me last-minute the other day when I fainted on the subway, took all my readings, gave me the information I needed, set me up with a car service home to Brooklyn, and called me later that night! He's amazing! I've never met such a knowledgable, engaged, thoughtful doctor. I highly recommend him to anyone - even if you're not into acupuncture or Eastern medicine. The fact that he can bridge the gap between East and West medicine gives him such an incredible perspective and ability to understand the human body on so many levels. I saw him for about a year before I accepted his request to apply acupuncture to help with my asthma. I thought it was so crazy to think needles could cure my inability to breathe! But it's been about 6 months since I've had to use an inhaler. You never know what's going to work for your body - and the fact that he has such a broad perspective and so much knowledge means he is much more likely to be able to effectively address your issues without the expensive trial and error of other doctors. I recently went to Dr Tsang for pain in my hand that was becoming chronic. After explaining to Dr Tsang why I was coming to see him we worked out a treatment plan with acupuncture and after several treatments I finally got results that I was not able to get with other physicians. In addition to eastern medicine Dr Tsang practices traditional western medicine. Over the last few years I have gone to him for everything from flu symptoms to swelling in my leg. I WAS a patient of this doctor up until he failed to follow through with paper work requested by my 74 year old mothers' primary doctor in Orlando Florida. While I previously praised and recommended this doctor the decision for him or his staff to decide that my mothers health was not a priority does not sit well with me at ALL!!! I brought her in for acupuncture treatments before she returned to Florida and was let down by the lack of professionalism and compassion his staff showed. I have been a patient of Dr. Tsang for several years .It is easy to get appointments, he has Saturday and Sunday hours,and an office which is conveniently located to public transportation. One does not have to wait more than a few minutes to see him.He is thorough in his examination , and gives good feedback to questions. He also is trained in Chinese medicine , and I have found that the acupuncture treatments give me relief form pain caused by arthritis , which I prefer to medications that have some unpleasant side effects. Dr. Tsang is the best. I couldn't agree more with all of the positive things that people have written about Dr. Tsang. He is by far the best doctor I have ever been to. As a testament to such a grand statement, after so many years of passively using Yelp, this is my very first review. Despite many seemingly life-changing meals, nothing can compete with the power of what is truly life changing, which is your health, or lack thereof. So, here I am, finally paying it back, because there are not enough good doctors out there (where you can get an appointment quickly and will take your insurance), and we all deserve the best. I first visited Dr. Tsang about a month ago. I have had chronic sinusitis for years, and whenever it strikes, it leeches onto my body for months at a time. I have tried antibiotics, homeopathic remedies, and whatever else the internet had to offer (within reason). On the advice of a friend, I decided to try out some acupuncture. I tried it once before in Korea, and did not find it very effective, but I needed to get on a plane in a few days for a wedding, so I was desperate to get better before then. (Also, my friend was extremely enthusiastic about her positive experiences with acupuncture, and thus, very convincing.) I was a bit wary that there weren't a ton of Yelp reviews, but it was a good exercise in recognizing quality over quantity. To be honest, the fact that Dr. Tsang practiced both Western and Eastern medicine was what probably won me over. If the acupuncture was not really effective, I knew I would probably at least need antibiotics for the sinus infection, and it was really amazing that I could get both in one quick visit (Also, I work right by his office and he takes my insurance.) I am not sure how helpful this review will be anymore since it has gotten so long (and still has a ways to go), but if someone is on the fence about going, hopefully they will read through and be persuaded. Needless to say, Dr. Tsang won me over in a single visit. I was a little worried because he is so efficient that it seems at first that he may not be fully listening, but he is taking everything in, and at the end of the day, he really knows what he is doing. I appreciated that he knew exactly how to treat my sinuses, and I was in and out in less than an hour. More importantly, after just one visit, my sinuses started to clear! I went back, as instructed, 2 days later, and had one more acupuncture session. Granted, I was luckily able to take the day off in between to rest, took antibiotics, and used a steam room for 2-3 days, I have tried a combination of these things, minus the acupuncture, many times. It has NEVER worked like this time around. My sinuses cleared up within a WEEK. Total game changer. I now know that if my sinuses act up again, I won't be overcome with a terrible sense of dread, I will just go to the doc. This will save me from months of sickness. A few weeks later, I found myself facing more serious health issues, and it seemed like my world was just caving in on me. The problem with doctors delivering news to you that you may have a serious health problem (especially if they follow up with more bad news), is that between the time you get the news and the time you are able to get in for follow up, you have...the internet. On top of the overwhelming surge of possibilities coursing through your mind and infecting your thoughts and sanity, you will likely find yourself googling every possible angle of your potential illness, which will lead you spinning into the bottomless viral darkness that is webMD and progeny. If this anxiety becomes serious enough, you may, like me, end up having a major panic attack, which will then trigger more internet "research," leading to affirmative belief that you are going to have a stroke/heart attack any minute (obv). So...yeah, that happened to me yesterday. After hours of being unable to get my heart to stop racing and feeling like I could barely breathe, I decided that I didn't want to take any chances. It was 5:30pm, and I didn't think my chances were great in terms of getting an app't anywhere, but I thought I would just try Dr. Tsang. I explained the situation, and he told me to come in right away. I was extremely grateful. When I met with Dr. Tsang, I explained all of the news I had received and my current condition (panic). He remained calm, yet empathetic, and did an amazing job at trying to address my questions and concerns while giving me acupuncture to stop the panic attack. He didn't necessarily make any of my health conditions go away (except for the panic attack), but he took the time to explain things to me in a way that put my mind (at least temporarily) at a standstill. Recently, I had surgery performed by an orthopaedic surgeon, on my left hand's middle, ring, and pinky fingers for dupuytren's contractures. After the surgery, the hand had a limited range-of-motion of 65% and was painful to force a 100% range. To accelerate the hand rehabilitation, I visited Dr. Tsang, who suggested accupuncture. After my first accupuncture treatment the hand had 100% range-of -motion with no pain, which lasted for a number of days after the treatment. Each subsequent visit to Dr. Tsang the accupuncture treatment extended the relief period, leading to a permanent 100% range-of-motion without pain. In addition, Dr. Tsang is controlling my cholesterol levels with an herbal medicine program. I would recommend Dr. Wing Tsang, who is Board Certified in internal medicine and an accupuncture and a herbal medicine practitioner. I have been his patient since 2002. I went to him with a bad shoulder and found him to be a great all around doctor. He has people from all over the world come to him, so when you go do not be surprised (once it was a performer from circus, another time a chef who cut hand) who is sitting next to you. I never wait more than 15 minutes for my appointment, the staff is small but keep control on the flow of patients. He is more like the doctors of yesterday in that he remembers your likes and dislikes which means he has a great bedside manner He also reminds me when and what I need to do for regular shots and flu shots. I would not trade him for another doctor and will keep going to him .I have sent him friends and they share my opinion. I am happy to see so many good reviews, he deserves them. I have been seeing Dr. Tsang for a number of years now. What originally interested me was his combination of eastern and western medicine and his having office hours on sundays. He was recommended by a good friend who found him to be a wonderful M.D. I too have found him to be of great value for my health and well being. He is timely and caring in his practice and I also found his staff to be the same. He actually has a good "bedside manner" . I have been a patient of Dr. Wing Tsang's for almost 15 years now. Here is my story to anyone who wants to be treated by the very BEST there is! In 2003, my leg was in so much pain (had no idea why), I could not walk. Someone who worked for me at the time told me to get in a taxi and he would meet me there and introduce to me to Dr Tsang in Chinatown. I was scared! But as I am sure you all would agree, when you are in that much pain, you are willing to do almost anything! So off I went in a taxi from NJ to meet Dr Tsang in downtown NYC on a Sunday (Yes, he is open on Sundays til 1 pm)! I had never had acupuncture before. I felt, well, here is a NYC expertly trained internist/doctor and a master in acupuncture. This may just work, and work it did and continues to do! Within a few short visits I was walking without painI As it turned out, the doctor could tell by how I was reacting to the needles and my symptoms, that it was a serious digestion issue and sure enough it was! He collaborates with other experts, he listens well, he takes the time as needed. It is a very rare and a true gift to have a doctor such as Dr Tsang in our midsts.
