My friend and I drove in from Staten Island and were looking up soul food restaurants in New Jersey…read moresince we were going to be in the area visiting the Liberty Science Center with the kids. After leaving the science center, we decided to head straight to this establishment, not knowing what we were getting ourselves into. Little did we know, this place is extremely popular and that we probably should have placed an order ahead of time. We ended up waiting about an hour and a half for our food, and to be honest, we were extremely frustrated. We were hungry, annoyed, and disappointed because no one communicated that the wait would be that long. If we had known ahead of time, we likely would have made a different decision. That being said, we decided to be patient and wait--and I am so glad we did. Once I got back into the car, I took a small taste of the food and immediately looked at my friend and said, "OMG! This food is so delicious. You're not going to believe this!" When we got home and actually sat down to eat, we were blown away. The quality, flavor, and care that went into the food were incredible. Every bite made us understand why this place is so popular. I don't enjoy waiting that long for food, and I do think better communication about wait times would make the experience much better. However, the food was so phenomenal that it completely changed my perspective. Great food is hard to find, and this place truly delivers. I would absolutely come back again--but next time, I'll definitely order ahead!

When you walk in, the aesthetic feels a little unfinished, almost like they're still moving in, but do not let that influence your expectations. The food does all the talking. I ordered the boneless jerk chicken platter, the chicken curry roti, and grabbed a beef patty from the display. I started with the beef patty flaky, warm, perfectly structured, and stuffed with incredibly seasoned meat. It practically melted in my mouth. Easily one of the freshest, most flavorful patties I've ever had. The boneless jerk chicken meal was outstanding. The chicken was moist with a subtle smoky flavor and a perfect kick from the jerk sauce. Paired with plantains and rice, it all came together beautifully. The chicken curry roti was just as impressive. The aroma alone hits you the second you open the wrapper. The curry was rich, flavorful, and the bone-in chicken inside was so tender it fell right off the bone. And the staff there was outstanding the woman that helped me was very nice. Very respectful all around amazing. Portions are generous, flavors are authentic, and everything tastes freshly made. I highly, highly recommend this spot to anyone craving phenomenal Jamaican food. I'm a big guy but I'm pretty conservative about where I spend my money and I just felt like I could have had more. Do I think the flavors were good, absolutely. But for the community, it's rough. I want everyone to eat good food but only if it's affordable. It's not just this one but others too. Service was good. And the interior it felt rustic and diner like, which I actually like. Only reason why I'm knocking it is price to portion ratio for the lunch special. But flavors, service is good in my book

The service was awesome - our server was friendly, attentive, and helped us make a few decisions in what we wanted to order. They had a special that night for a $10 burger and fries, so we ordered that, jerk chicken mac & cheese, and plantains. As an appetizer we ordered coconut shrimp. Everything was great, but I think the coconut shrimp and jerk chicken mac were the stars of the show. The plantains were cooked perfectly, I just probably could've done without the sweet glaze. The burger and fries were great, and best of all a great deal. It seems they have different deals on other days of the week too. We also ordered drinks. They have a few Caribbean classics like rum punch and pina coladas. I got the rum punch which was super strong and delicious. I will definitely return in the near future to try their classic jerk chicken dish :)
