I have been a fan of what they do for a long time. They have certainly stood the test of time. This place is a little time capsule, a glimpse into how diners functioned in their hay-day that we don't often see in this era. I love everything White Mana stands for and protects, it's nostalgic, charming and oozes classic Jersey energy. While I don't think the foods anything if to write home about I still don't think anything should change or else you risk losing the soul of the restaurant. Service here is more of an experience than a well run efficient place that compares to powerhouses that serve something similar like White Castle. I see this place as a historic and important landmark in Jersey rather than a top tier restaurant. It's a must visit just to get a glimpse of the culture out here but I personally don't think this is anywhere close to the best burger in Jersey. The onions aren't caramelized enough and the burger doesn't have enough time to get a good char of flavor due to the increased demand. With online orders and the popularity the burgers take a hit in quality as the focus shifts on trying to meet costumer demand. I also got fries and a drink, the crinkle cut fries were over fried and just basic, not worth it in my opinion. The drink tasted more like tap water than sweet tea and honestly could just be removed from the menu it's so mediocre. I appreciate they've kept the prices so low for so long, but the quality reflects what you're paying. service here is like any classic north jersey spot, no bullshit and to the point. they're not here to conversare or be your friend but rather to serve as many people as they can. After passing this historic place dozens of times since living in NJ my entire life, I finally stopped in for lunch. Ordered 4 sliders with cheese and shoe string fries. The food was horrible to say the least. Burger rolls were brittle and did not taste fresh. Super thin sliders had zero flavor and were disappointing. Fries had an obvious taste of old oil. There isn't much to say about this place. Most people go for the hamburgers. They call them sliders, but they're as large as a burger from McDonald's. I would say McDonald's is a fair comparison for this place. The diner is obviously better quality than McDonald's, but the hamburgers are about the same size. They serve similar French fries. And the consistency of the burger is roughly the same. I came away with not much to say about the restaurant. As historic restaurants go, it really doesn't stand out. That's not a reason not to eat here, if it's convenient to eat here and you want a good burger it's a great place to go. But it's a very plain burger. I suppose the hamburger hasn't changed much in 100 years. Staff is very friendly. They had a great lunch special three cheeseburgers fries and a drink was only $10. Finally got the chance to check out White Mana Diner! All in all, not disappointed. The restaurant is just as one would expect, a small diner located on the corner of a semi-busy intersection. Parking can be a little tough, but nothing a little patience will allow you to get over. Upon entering, the staff greeted us from inside the grill area. The special which was presented to us was 3 cheese burgers, fries, and drink for $10. That was perfect for our fist visit. They slapped 3 fresh patties on the grill with onion, cheese, and buns and before you know it, your order was ready to go. The fries were a little on the hard side, but nothing worth truly complaining about. The circular seating around the grill gave an added old time feel to everything. Additionally, having other customers come in and specifically asking about the iconic burgers, made us feel like less of local grown tourists. Both have the connected origin constructed by the same dining car company for '39 World's Fair and the original owner, this Jersey City White Mana started up similarly in '46 as "diner of the future," remaining efficient with the grill cook right there in front of you! It's circular counter surrounds the grill. Authentic, it retains its throwback feel and tasty food fair priced. About those White Mana burgers: Delicious old school handcrafted sizable sliders, topped with grilled onions (my reco) that are made with fresh meat since the diner's inception from purveyor Pat LaFrieda, another Tonnelle Avenue business still operating basically down the street! They're a great value and taste the way burger joint hamburgers used to taste before industrialized patties became common place - not fancy, but simply satisfying! If you're not interested in a stool at the round grill counter, there are also booths. The burgers are small but an amazing value - two was the perfect amount for me. The patties are about 2oz each and smashed flat. If there is one place in Jersey City that looks the same as it did 20 years ago it's the corner of Manhattan Ave. and Tonelle Ave. The food here is the same too and it's not a bad thing. They have a lot of items on the menu but the cheeseburgers are the star of the show. They are greasily delicious. The fries and onion rings are very good as well. The prices have only gone up minimally over the years and are still very reasonable. You can walk into this place and be transported back in time......still looks and smells the same as always. Came here while I was visiting family in NJ. This is their original location in Jersey City. They are known for their mini cheeseburgers which are made to order. You can dine in or take food to go. They wrap each burger individually in wax paper and then put in a paper bag for you so they stay fresh. We decided to stay and eat at the counter. It's cool because you can watch as they make the burgers. Each one is made the same and put on a toasted bun. We also ordered onion rings and chicken fries. They were also very yummy. The prices are super reasonable. We ordered about 12 burgers, the onion rings, fries and drinks for like $35. Service was great. I liked the woman behind the counter she was very matter of fact yet friendly and fun at the same time. You can tell she was boss lady. Folks working here are super friendly and so down to earth. Real conversations naturally arise all around you and it just has that heart warming old school neighborhoody vibes.
