Iconic! Just come for the experience. It's a dive with retro architecture and true locals patronizing. Many films shot here. Ya gotta eat at the circular counter in the center. I enjoyed the sliders in which they claim to have invented the concept of... think White Castle style but much better and a bit bigger. Paired with pickles galore! They have a parking lot. Not the most inviting of areas, so go during daylight. Cheap prices & quick service. Bring cash.
White Mana has been on my bucket list spots for many years. Finally tried it, and it did not disappoint. First walk in and you get that nostalgic old school burger joint feeling. All burgers are cooked to order,it's simple, nothing fancy, just an old fashion tasty slider. I got double cheese and without cheese, plus onions and ketchup. Hot and delicious. This is an iconic spot that is well worth a stop.
This place is a little time capsule, a glimpse into how diners functioned in their hay-day that we don't often see in this era. I love everything White Mana stands for and protects, it's nostalgic, charming and oozes classic Jersey energy. While I don't think the foods anything if to write home about I still don't think anything should change or else you risk losing the soul of the restaurant. Service here is more of an experience than a well run efficient place that compares to powerhouses that serve something similar like White Castle. I see this place as a historic and important landmark in Jersey rather than a top tier restaurant. It's a must visit just to get a glimpse of the culture out here but I personally don't think this is anywhere close to the best burger in Jersey. The onions aren't caramelized enough and the burger doesn't have enough time to get a good char of flavor due to the increased demand. With online orders and the popularity the burgers take a hit in quality as the focus shifts on trying to meet costumer demand. I also got fries and a drink, the crinkle cut fries were over fried and just basic, not worth it in my opinion. The drink tasted more like tap water than sweet tea and honestly could just be removed from the menu it's so mediocre. I appreciate they've kept the prices so low for so long, but the quality reflects what you're paying. service here is like any classic north jersey spot, no bullshit and to the point. they're not here to conversare or be your friend but rather to serve as many people as they can. I'd love to rank White Mana higher but their food is just okay and the service is slow. But their dedication to tradition is truly something no other place matches.
On my recent trip to Jersey City, I couldn't resist stopping at White Mana for a quick bite to eat. Nothing has changed since I was last here a couple of decades ago. Enjoyed sitting on a stool watching the grill master work his magic. Don't overthink it, just enjoy some simple cheeseburgers and fries washed down with a soda. Ahhh, the memories! Thank you White MANA!
It was amazing to be able to stop in not too long ago to enjoy the famous White Mana...and boy, it did not disappoint! One of the best burgers I have ever had. So simple, fresh and delicious....it made me rethink the other burgers I have had... Service was quick, friendly and non-intrusive (which meant I could just focus on enjoying the burger). And with its classic diner decor and old school vibe, it's a feel of a by gone error...one that I wish would come back in, if for nothing else, taste of food! Highly recommend!
This is as others have a said a throwback to earlier days. The service was quick the food was good and the price is almost unbeatable. I would say we were served within 5 minutes of sitting down. 6 burgers, a hotdog, disco fries and a soda for just a tad under 20 bucks. You feel a part of history here a part that is quickly being wiped away for modern more expensive places. Definitely should be on your bucket list.
There isn't much to say about this place. Most people go for the hamburgers. They call them sliders, but they're as large as a burger from McDonald's. I would say McDonald's is a fair comparison for this place. The diner is obviously better quality than McDonald's, but the hamburgers are about the same size. They serve similar French fries. And the consistency of the burger is roughly the same. I came away with not much to say about the restaurant. As historic restaurants go, it really doesn't stand out. That's not a reason not to eat here, if it's convenient to eat here and you want a good burger it's a great place to go. But it's a very plain burger. I suppose the hamburger hasn't changed much in 100 years. Staff is very friendly. They had a great lunch special three cheeseburgers fries and a drink was only $10. Again, The food doesn't really stand out in any particular way, but it is good food. This place really is a diner.
Love White Mana Diner! More out of the way on Tonnelle Avenue (there U.S. 1-9) in Jersey City than the White Manna (with 2 "n"s) in Hackensack, which makes it easier to get an order here because it's less packed due to its awkward location and more seating. Both have the connected origin constructed by the same dining car company for '39 World's Fair and the original owner, this Jersey City White Mana started up similarly in '46 as "diner of the future," remaining efficient with the grill cook right there in front of you! It's circular counter surrounds the grill. Authentic, it retains its throwback feel and tasty food fair priced. About those White Mana burgers: Delicious old school handcrafted sizable sliders, topped with grilled onions (my reco) that are made with fresh meat since the diner's inception from purveyor Pat LaFrieda, another Tonnelle Avenue business still operating basically down the street! They're a great value and taste the way burger joint hamburgers used to taste before industrialized patties became common place - not fancy, but simply satisfying! If you're not interested in a stool at the round grill counter, there are also booths. That being said, both the Jersey City White Mana building and classic burgers are memorable - for me, worth a stop anytime I'm driving along Tonnelle Avenue!
Finally got the chance to check out White Mana Diner! All in all, not disappointed. The restaurant is just as one would expect, a small diner located on the corner of a semi-busy intersection. Parking can be a little tough, but nothing a little patience will allow you to get over. Upon entering, the staff greeted us from inside the grill area. The special which was presented to us was 3 cheese burgers, fries, and drink for $10. That was perfect for our fist visit. They slapped 3 fresh patties on the grill with onion, cheese, and buns and before you know it, your order was ready to go. The fries were a little on the hard side, but nothing worth truly complaining about. The circular seating around the grill gave an added old time feel to everything. Additionally, having other customers come in and specifically asking about the iconic burgers, made us feel like less of local grown tourists. Awesome place to visit and get a feel for authentic sliders that are well prepared and very fresh to order.
For value I think White Mana deserves at least 4 stars. I'd heard about White Mana but the past week was my first time having their burgers. The burgers are small but an amazing value - two was the perfect amount for me. The patties are about 2oz each and smashed flat. Chef has the white mana griddle technique perfected and they're able to cook about 25 burgers or more at a time. *cash only *in person ordering only The burgers are very tasty, but they won't be the best you've ever had. Worth a visit!
A little greasy but it was decent. Slightly better than white castle. My coke was very sweet, but it tasted as I expected from a vintage burger place. Not somewhere I'd sit down and eat at, personally. A little overhyped for what they are. A solid 2.5/5
Service was good, the employees were friendly and attended us quickly. Food was served hot and fresh. The burgers are good and flavorful, and the fries are really good too. Perfect meal to have after some drinks. Enjoy!
$3.50 for a double cheeseburger, need I say more? White Mana Diner is a blast from the past in terms of pricing, set up and service. One grill maestro masters the helm commanding his love and appreciation into each patty placed on the grill. The thrill of walking into an old timely lunch counter setup is matched by the locals streaming in to order 10, 20, sometimes 30 burgers at a time. No doubt the economic price range encourages, nay, enthralls any customer to open up heart, mind, stomach, and wallet to ordering copious amounts of beefy cheesy oniony goodness. Albeit simple- grilled onions, 2 patties and cheese- the double is still a symphony of flavor. A must go for any burger enthusiast.

I've heard so much about this place, and I've had it on my must try list for a long time now. I finally decided to try it. First the good, the place really brings you back in time. The outside is iconic for sure, the inside has great pictures and the decor is kept retro style and it gives it a cool and nostalgic feel. The service was good and the price of $12 for 3 cheeseburgers, fries and a soda is inexpensive by any standard. Unfortunately the burgers were disappointing. Mine tasted as though they had been sitting on the grill for a while, and they were on the cold side. I think the diner is worth trying it once for its history, atmosphere, and experience. So try it and judge for yourself, but as for me, not my cup of tea. I would compare the quality of the burger to a McDonald cheeseburger. Way better places to get a burger. read more
This diner is a true gem. Old school retro interior with prices to match. Their hamburgers are $1.45 and cheeseburgers are $1.64. Yes they're on a smaller side but where else do you see prices like this? A combo - 3 cheeseburgers, fries and drink is $9.35. They also serve crack juice aka lemonade with fruit punch. If you know you know. CASH ONLY of course I really loved this classic American joint. Came here early evening and it was such a pick-me-up. oh what to say. me and my husband LOVE this place. what a fabulous old school looking diner that serves up what I would describe as an elevated White Castle slider. now I know...White Castle?? No 1000x better. the cheese that melts on top of these babies is no joke. Ask for a double (double patty between sliders with cheese) and you'll thank me later. The people that run this place are also so sweet. Family business which I always love supporting. They have milkshakes, fries, onion rings, chicken fries, a lot of the things on the menu. But def known for their burgers. seriously if u haven't visited yet. You NEED to. read more
A New Jersey institution! No frills, no nonsense, just good burgers and fries! The burgers are awesome, inexpensive and you get them fast! Fries are also good. They are open late. They have parking. What more can you want, especially in Jersey City? Ambiance is very old school diner. They are cash only so keep that in mind. But otherwise, it's a great place for a quick bite. read more

Came here while I was visiting family in NJ. This is their original location in Jersey City. They are known for their mini cheeseburgers which are made to order. You can dine in or take food to go. They wrap each burger individually in wax paper and then put in a paper bag for you so they stay fresh. We decided to stay and eat at the counter. It's cool because you can watch as they make the burgers. Each one is made the same and put on a toasted bun. We also ordered onion rings and chicken fries. They were also very yummy. The prices are super reasonable. We ordered about 12 burgers, the onion rings, fries and drinks for like $35. Service was great. I liked the woman behind the counter she was very matter of fact yet friendly and fun at the same time. You can tell she was boss lady. It's nice to know that a business is still thriving since the 1920's. Go check them out! read more

two perspectives: me: it was so good, definitely worth all the hype, the tenders were crispy and fries were so good. the chocolate milkshake i had i loved so much it was genuinely one of the best i've had!! the service is nice as well very friendly environment like a little family, place was so cute and old times as well!! u can see all the cars passing by, would recommend a million times my man: THEY ONLY TAKE CASH!!!! they have an ATM in case u forget lol. their 3 for $10 slider deal was amazing , very fresh, their chicken tenders were crispy and tasty as ever. their milkshake was to die for and the fruit punch-lemonade was yummy. would definitely go back ; the decor was also super cool, reminds me of an old school movie set. not to mention the staff/owners were very friendly and accommodating! real chatty and funny at the front bart stools, with a great view of the beautifully rainy road with cars zipping by. i wanna try their spicy chicken next! read more

White Mana truly is a gem! Simple simple simple but SO delicious. This is a great local burger. Don't expect any fluff, complexity or some 5 star service. This is a place to visit and get down with a delicious burger. Meat, cheese and bread! The steamed buns are awesome, soft like a cloud. Onions are nice and sweet, burger patties absolutely delicious. Only thing that would be nice is a lock and a light in their bathroom. Fix this please. read more

Was traveling through Hoboken and realized that White Mana Diner was just about 3 miles away. With local flooding, trip took longer than expected but worth it. Unlike the White Manna Hamburgers in Hackensack, this location is in Jersey City. Love the nostalgic feel as you walk up and once you step in, it's as you are taking a step back into time. Ordered the special - 3 cheeseburgers, fries, and a drink for $10. Stopped in before ty4 lunch rush and found parking with ease and had th3e diner to myself but more customers were trickling in as I ate. Sliders were tasty and was happy to have checked this off from my food places to visit. read more

I finally got to try White Mana after driving by so many times! Are you going to be eating michelin star meal here? No! But for what it is, it's perfect. Folks working here are super friendly and so down to earth. Real conversations naturally arise all around you and it just has that heart warming old school neighborhoody vibes. As a transplant in JC, I felt at home here and enjoyed the no frill food that is cooked fresh and served with love. Will be back soon! read more
