I drive past Jerkin Chicken almost every day and always said, "One day I'll stop in." I finally did and it was one of the best decisions I've made. When you walk in, the aesthetic feels a little unfinished, almost like they're still moving in, but do not let that influence your expectations. The food does all the talking. I ordered the boneless jerk chicken platter, the chicken curry roti, and grabbed a beef patty from the display. I started with the beef patty flaky, warm, perfectly structured, and stuffed with incredibly seasoned meat. It practically melted in my mouth. Easily one of the freshest, most flavorful patties I've ever had. The boneless jerk chicken meal was outstanding. The chicken was moist with a subtle smoky flavor and a perfect kick from the jerk sauce. Paired with plantains and rice, it all came together beautifully. The chicken curry roti was just as impressive. The aroma alone hits you the second you open the wrapper. The curry was rich, flavorful, and the bone-in chicken inside was so tender it fell right off the bone. And the staff there was outstanding the woman that helped me was very nice. I have had Jerkin Chicken multiple times in the last few years but lately I'm not sure what has happened to the quality of food. Yesterday I had a taste for Oxtails and since my family don't eat them I just decided to pick some up. Prices have certainly gone up in the last two years and yes I can understand that but give the customer the same quality and don't skimp on the amount of food! I paid $20 for tough oxtails that had very little meat on the bone to begin with. 5 little pieces that looked as if they with cut smaller to make their amount seem more when they cooked them. Very disappointed. I have had the food truck near my home with no issues and maybe it was a bad day but no excuse for the amount of money. One boneless jerk chicken over rice with cabbage and one tiny, measly piece of plantain was $14. That would be fine if the food was at least spot on, but it was bland, tasteless and cold. The oxtail has good flavor, but was mostly bone and the part that wasn't bone was fat. The little bit of meat was tough, they needed to be cooked longer. The rice and peas were great. Finally a good jerk chicken and pork truck. I thought I tried every truck around the Harborside area and they all sucked. I'm not Jamaican and my jerk chicken would run circles around all those other trucks. Then I saw this one for the first time with a long line. I asked a few people online if it was any good and all answered "I am Jamaican and this is good" so I had to try it. While the others are basically grilled chicken slathered in BBQ sauce, this one tastes like jerk spice. They have a delicious hot sauce to boot. Me and my husband just spent 76 dollars. To be missing one of our meals. The driver gave us everything. This was highly disappointing to say the least. How could a restaurant like this moss one of our meals we ordered. I am big on customer service as I myself work in customer service. This is very unacceptable. I don't usually eat at food trucks but I was tempted when I saw this jerk chicken truck on Columbus Dr by Grove Street. I ordered the jerk chicken meal which came with a half jerk chicken cut up (I think it was half), rice and salad. The jerk chicken was well spiced up (but not too spicy which I liked). The chicken was tender, juicy and moist and it just fell off the bone which I loved. The rice was soft and flavorful with beans in it. The salad was crisp and fresh. They didn't include the plantains and when I called the store, the young lady was undecided as whether or not that was too far bring me what I'd already paid for. The food is out of this world amazing and the staff is also very accommodating as well. The first time I visited Jerkin Chicken, I had the Jerk chicken, stew chicken, and a side order of sweet plantains. The entire meal was great and the stew chicken gravy in particular stood out. The second day I had the Jerk Chicken dinner combo along with the gigantic Jerk Chicken Wrap. The portions of food are quite generous and the people that state it is a little pricey are looking at the dollar amount but failing to take into consideration the quality of the food, sauces, sides, and the overall generous portions of food. You pay for what you get, and what you get is worth the money. I have been there twice in the past weekend and I am probably going back either today or tomorrow with a couple of friends.
