    Birria Tacos

Great customer service and fast too. Had the queso birria taco and it was awesome with the green sauce.

Chofi is my favorite taco spot in NJ! As a pescatarian, finding good tacos is a mission but Chofi definitely lives up to the hype! I ALWAYS start with the chips + 4 dips; Crema Verde, pico de gallo, molcajete salsa, chipotle mayo. My favorite. My bf always orders the steak tacos and I order the vegetarian tacos. For my friends that can't tolerate spice, make sure you ask for it mild or your mouth will be on fire! You can order online for pickup or sit inside. Just note, there are about 3 small tables plus seating at the window so it's snug but cozy. The service is always fantastic, the food is even better!

Pretty good spot! We got three birria tacos so we could get the complimentary consome, we also got two pork tacos, two chicken mole tacos and two steak tacos. The chicken mole was my favorite. The others I could pass on, even the birria tacos... probably because I've had tacos from Mexico We also got the chips with four dips, the dips were alright. Chips were good of course. We also got a Jamaica fresca, which was sour but also had so much sugar the fresca was sticky. Really good spot to satisfy your taco craving, but not my absolute favorite (again, probably because I've been spoiled with tacos from Mexico). Service is quite quick, food came out within 15mins. Ambiance is nice, few tables inside if you'd like to sit inside. Love that you can see into the kitchen.

Customer service was great, such a friendly staff. Food was quality... flavor was not all there but I added the hot sauces and that definitely helped. The ambiance is adorable! Small spot and would be tough during dinner rush to find a table. We came around 5, easy to find parking and were able to get a table too. Great spot to try out if you're in the area.

This is seriously the best Tacos I've ever had in my life. Also, it was my first time trying a Torta, it was so good! The type of food you want to keep eating even though you're full! Haha!

I promise you, if you ever had Birria and thought it was good! YOU WERE WRONG! This was the first birria place I tried after years of hearing about it and I am so glad this was the place that I had my first experience at. The tacos are absolutely amazing. Since trying it from here, I have ordered birria at two restaurants as well as what New Yorkers deem the best, Birria-Landia and this by far beats any place I have ever tried. They did just raise their prices recently but as they should. My only downfall is I went to this place a lot last year as well as the beginning of the year and there is no welcoming customer service, like how you would normally get by eating at a specific place all the time.

Small shop serving (in my opinion) the best tacos in the New York Tri-state area. The taco shells are crispy on the outside but still soft and chewy and thick. It doesn't fall apart even when soggy (impressive). Small seating area, staff were nice. Each taco is ~$5 each, so not exactly the cheapest but hey, nothing surprising for an East Coast taco.

Ordered takeout from here, and have to say the restaurant itself is adorable; they have about five tables from what I saw and some counter seating. The servers were friendly, when I came by to pick-up and were honest with how long it should take to be ready. Food was excellent, was really hard to pick a favorite but if you're debating wether or not to have the consome, just do it!!! I am feeling this place. Feeling it a lot. As a pescatarian, I can only try about a quarter of the menu and I am still feeling it. I've had the chips with four dips, agua fresca (BYOB), the blue corn mushroom quesadilla, and the vegetarian tacos. My favorite dish here are the tacos because the flavors in the tacos are outstanding. The corn shell is handmade, fresh, and delicious; I don't want a taco without a shell like this. The vegetarian taco has mushrooms, grilled poblano peppers, cheese, and molcajeteada salsa. The smokiness of the salsa and peppers paired with he mildness of the mushrooms, cheese, and corn shell make a very satisfying taco. Probably the best vegetarian taco I have had. You can order the tacos without cheese to make it vegan. The quesadilla is a must if you are a fan of blue corn tortillas, which I am, but the shell was a little thick for me and I would choose the tacos over the quesadilla any day. The chips and four dips was also okay, I would just as well have the chips with guac and the molcajeteads salsa. I've done take away and eat-in and prefer eat-in at one of the outside tables. In terms of lines, there always is one but its not too bad, not nearly as bad as finding parking. Good Luck with that.

Very cute little place. Feels like your at your family's house. Staff was friendly and did not wait long for food. Birria tacos were good. Three was too much in my opinion they are very filling. The flautas were so good. One order is good for one or to share. The only downside is parking! Not the establishments fault. If your not from the area parking is very difficult! You can't even double park. Overall I highly recommend.

Third time here and honestly, what really impresses me is the consistency. It's a great meal each time. Whether dine in or take out. The tacos are absolutely bursting with tender meat, and you can really tell the tortillas are hand made. I love that it's slightly thicker so it can really absorb that delicious consommé. The corn is never over cooked, it just always perfect. And a wide variety of Jarritos to wash it all down with!

3 birria tacos y consume, 2 chicken adobo tacos and chips and salsa
    Fatima C.

The food here is decent. The chicken taco is the only item I would come back for. The chips were not salted at all, the consume did not have much depth and flavor, and the birria tacos were decent. I've had better birria tacos elsewhere. Parking in the area is very tricky so come prepared. The food is a bit pricey compared to other restaurants with similar items. However, the food is still good. I came with a lot of expectations but it was nothing to scream about. The restaurant is taking COVID precautions and has some outdoor seating. The staff wipes down the tables after folks leave which is great.

Service (even for takeout) was lacking. We ordered online and then had to wait ~30 minutes after the quoted time for our order (for two). Despite the long waiting time, they neglected to tell us that the vegetarian taco was sold out. Luckily it was only one taco, but they should've let us know at pickup and it would've been nice if they asked if we wanted a substitute. We found out at home when we were unpacking the order. Also, we shouldn't have had to call afterwards to ask for a refund for the missing taco. On to the food - this was the first time I tried birria tacos and it was too salty for me. Also got the esquites corn and the portion size was very small.

We ordered: Borracho Tacos (fish) $22 Esquites Gratinee (corn) $10 Truffle Ribeye Burrito $27 Black Chili Crunch Guacamole $14 The borracho tacos aka fish tacos were very small and disappointing. They are very overpriced for what we received. One small piece of fish per little taco shell. Flavor was ok. Are they worth $22? Absolutely not. We will not be reordering these. The Esquites Gratinee corn side dish was bigger than the guacamole portion and flavorful per my boyfriend. I don't eat corn so I didn't have any. My boyfriend really liked it. Said it's unique and 10/10. He would get this again. The truffle ribeye burrito is delicious. Though I didn't get any truffle flavor? If it was there, it's minimal. I didn't taste it at all. The ribeye was cooked perfectly and it's a good portion of meat. Tender and flavorful. No chewiness. Sauce on top is amazing. Rice and beans cooked perfect. Would order this again. It's worth it. Even without truffle flavor. Great portion size too. The black chili crunch guacamole is the star of the show. While it's a small portion, it's very flavorful. Love the garlic. Love the crunch. Fresh avocados. This is worth it. We would definitely order it again. Highly recommend the guac. Small but mighty haha.

That occasion had been a few years ago and had involved an insanely strong margarita, an experience that I would not want to relive. However, my friend suggested grabbing dinner there recently, and since it was a nice evening and their outdoor dining was right on the main thoroughfare of Washington Street, I agreed to at least go to enjoy their excellent people watching. I certainly vowed to skip the cocktails, but was willing to give their food another chance. We started with crisp, lightly-salty tortilla chips and a rich, bold salsa. I then ordered Vegetable Fajitas, which included green and red bell peppers, zucchini, and onions. The peppers had been sliced so thin that they were barely noticeable and made hardly any flavor impact. The sizzling platter was also about 85% onions, of which I was not a fan, so I sent back most of them in the end. The whole thing was also rather greasy. The flour tortillas were delicious and not artificial tasting like most. The DIY platter was also served with a side plate of refreshing sour cream, well-seasoned guacamole, sliced jalapenos, and fresh pico de gallo. I wished the portions of these condiments were larger, though, and the guacamole, in particular. The staff was so friendly, allowing us to linger at the table after we paid and even refilling our water during that time. They all provided service with a smile, which also helped ease any frustration a diner might have about the fact that they apply an automatic tip of 20% to the check for any party size. While I still had a decent experience at East LA, it was much better than I had remembered, and I would be willing to return.

It's an also an opportunity to thank Tacoria for the "small" nachos, currently $10 and not small. When I discovered the JC branch circa 2020 Uber delivery, it was definitely one of the cheapest non-pizza options in coastal NJ. A cashier immediately tried to stop her from going, even though we were clearly customers already waiting in line to order. What made the situation worse was what happened next. A manager identified as Justin and another cashier began arguing about the situation in front of customers. Instead of calmly explaining any policy, the discussion turned into an awkward back-and-forth between staff members while we stood there waiting. The entire interaction became uncomfortable and embarrassing, and it felt like we were being treated as if we had done something wrong simply for asking to use the restroom while waiting to order. If the restaurant has a policy that restrooms are only for paying customers, that's completely understandable. However, there was no visible sign anywhere explaining that policy. Situations like this should be handled professionally and respectfully, especially when customers are already in line to make a purchase. What could have been a simple moment of customer service instead turned into an unnecessarily uncomfortable experience. I hope management reviews how staff communicate policies with customers and considers posting clear signage about restroom access so situations like this can be avoided in the future.

While I wouldn't call this spot a "hidden gem" of Hoboken by any stretch, I did thoroughly enjoy my burrito. I got a regular grilled chicken burrito and everything that came with it. Upon my first bite it was apparent that the chicken was more like hibachi chicken than grilled chicken (not a complaint but not what was advertised). If you try it you'll know exactly what I mean. No complaints about anything else. They could have made more of an effort in evenly distributing the contents of the burrito but thats just me being picky. If it means anything to whoever may be reading this...the burrito felt like it weighed 5 pounds and I found myself eating the entire thing. So why 3/5 stars? This burrito cost me $16! While the ingredients were fresh and the portion was huge, it's hard to justify one burrito at almost 20 bucks. Complain about Chipotle's portions all u want, but my bowl there only costs me like $12. I'd definitely go back again at some point, but it just didn't taste good ENOUGH to justify the price tag. Tacoria has a better burrito (imo) and is a few bucks cheaper. Still, worth a try for sure.
