Absolutely one of the best meals I've eaten. Chef Berke has put his touches on some basic creations and has elevated these dishes beyond comprehension. From the pork chop that melted in your mouth to the half chicken that was just succulent. Do not forget about the swordfish steak cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor and the filet with au gratin potatoes that were second to none. This was our best food during a weekend on Block. We both got the same thing, the grilled salmon special. The preparation was sublime, easily among the best fish entrees I've ever had. We ate at the bar and the place had a nice vibe and we talked with some locals who were there. My husband and I chose Winfield's for an anniversary dinner based on the glowing reviews. We were completely underwhelmed, and ultimately left disappointed. The service. Was. So. Slow. There is bad service that is rude and snotty, and less than ideal service because the waitstaff is slammed- this was neither. Our server was very pleasant- but the service was painfully slow. I will add the restaurant was not busy in the least. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated promptly. The server was friendly and water was brought immediately, followed by drinks. We ordered the Winfield's salad to split (wonderful) and each had the pork chop, which was very good. But that's where the service seemed to end. My husband ordered another glass of wine which was never brought. The server never checked on us again. Another server, seeing that we had been sitting with dirty plates for a while, cleared the plates on her way by and we asked her for a dessert menu. We decided on some after dinner drinks...but then sat....and sat....and sat...when we finally managed to get our servers attention again we decided against ordering dessert and drinks and asked for the check. And waited...and waited... I feel like we could have had an excellent experience at Winfield's and was disappointed that it didn't work out for us. Also we had eaten at Eli's the previous two nights which was excellent in all ways, so we left regretting we didn't go there again. read more

We had a very nice dinner for ten at Winfield's last Friday night. We had a pork appetizer, mussels, and foie gras bratwurst. All were incredible. Grass fed sirloin for dinner. Also excellent. Good service, nice vibe, A/C and full bar. One thought: The appetizer menu is very exciting and adventurous. I'd love to see some more of that creativity on the entree side of the menu. I almost ordered 2 apps as an entree. We don't eat out much when visiting the Block. Usually only once for dinner. Everyone on the Island speaks very highly of Winfield's and I can understand why. read more

Friendly fast service. We were baffled at the ridiculous way the bread was served: delicious multigrain bread with roasted garlic and shredded Romano cheese, which would have been great if the bread had not been served on a plate of olive oil. As a result, most of the slices were completely soaked in oil. My swordfish with herbed aoili ($30) was probably about the best swordfish I have ever eaten - fresh and moist. It was served with greens dressed in vinaigrette, and roasted sweet potatoes. My only regret was that the portion of fish was too large for me to finish it. My husband's meal was unfortunately not so successful: a smoked brisket served over mashed potatoes with gravy ($28). The brisket was flavorful but much too fatty. The mashed potatoes were watery. (Probably if they had been served on the side instead of under the meat this would not have been a problem.) I would not call the setting at all elegant, but it was attractive. read more

Went here for dinner our last night on BI at the recommendations of other B&B guests and were not disappointed. Rustic but elegant atmosphere, very knowledgeable waitstaff, excellent menu and wine list. We had the chicken (cooked to perfection and very flavorful) and the salmon and both were delicious. my husband and our dear friends came here our first time. We always like to try new places each time we come to BI each summer. This time we tried here tonight. I ordered roasted chicken, my husband grilled lamb chops, our friends grilled pork chops and grilled swordfish. We were totally impressed with the right done ness and taste. We were not impressed with our server. We preferred the bus girl though. She was attentive and prompt. We will return in future. We reserved our table an hour and half when it opened. Winfield's is my favorite restaurant on BI! Every year I choose to go there for my birthday! We start out with a fabulous cocktail at the bar made by our favorite bartender, Gloria! Then we head into the beautiful restaurant that has great ambiance with a tavern-like feel. The dishes are superb! Mussels, lobster Mac and cheese which is to die for, amazing tenderloin topped with pimento cheese and seafood selections that are all so good it makes it hard to choose! The cheesecake was made locally with handmade ricotta cheese and was out of this world! We went back a few nights later because we couldn't get enough! Came here for our one year anniversary and the nicer of our two dinners while we were there. Service was excellent. Scallop appetizer was not to be missed with a cream sauce but tart apples to balance it out. The chowder was also noteworthy We wanted to lick the plate! It's all about the sauce! The food at Winfield's was superb. We had the mussels and scallops appetizers, and the sauce/broth that came with these two dishes was AMAZING. We soaked up every bit of it with the bread they gave us (and by the way, the bread comes with a head of roasted garlic- such an awesome idea and delicious too!) The entrees were good, as well (we had filet mignon and salmon), but the appetizers definitely stood out. Service was very good, we loved our waitress, Lynn. She was very friendly and informative about the restaurant and the island. The food here is a notch above most other places on the island, as it's really high quality. So disappointed! Incredibly overpriced for the type of food & service offered tonight. We have been to almost every restaurant on the island and left this one for our last day of our 7 day stay, for my husband's 50th birthday, thinking it would be special (or at least great) for that event. The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived (at opening, second people in the door) and were placed at a small table next to a wall, next to the kitchen. There were still many open tables, even when we left. Tonight their normal steak dinner and normal salmon dinner were the "specials" but in much smaller sizes, for less $ (the normal sizes not available). This would be fine but they were reeeeeally tiny portions, and nothing special, in the center of a huge plate. Not very hospitable service, very mediocre food, for a big price-tag, when you could get much better food at so many other places on the island. Hope our experience was just an anomaly. Disappointed. All but one in our party of four agree. He ordered the simplest dish, grilled lamb chops. So, that may explain it. A not so gourmet meal at a gourmet price tag. My husband and I have been coming to BI for the past 9 years...we always enjoy trying new places as well as our "must haves" . Winfrey's is one of our sure things. We consistently get great service and an excellent meal. Tonight I want to thank the woman who continually filled my water glass-Kaharina who never neglected to keep a watchful eye out for me. For me, water is essential to be able to eat. 10 years ago I received radiation for tonsilar cancer. Along with radiating the cancer, they killed all of my saliva glands thus inhibiting my ability to produce saliva. So for waiters,waitresses, and bartenders out there-water for some of us is the difference between being able to enjoy our meal or not being able to eat it at all. Thank you Kaharina! read more

Best of the island. Food is absolutely lovely. Dining room is interesting since it has the feel of an old barn. Walls are filled great island artwork. Food was absolutely delicious. Caesar salad is large so we split it into two and was more than enough. Pork chop was delicious. So flavorful and moist. Chicken was also moist and we'll seasoned. Salmon was also great. We were all pleased with our entrees. Lemon Blueberry cake was great. Large pice. Perfect to share. Service was great. Very pleased. Staff was attentive and friendly. Will go back. Amazing really.. I'm actually here as I write this that's how much I enjoyed my dinner. I was pleasantly surprised when our waitress brought out a plate with roasted garlic and olive oil. Simply delicious and a treat as roasted garlic cloves are rarely served. We ordered the Winfield salad and a Caesar salad to start both of which were delicious, but the stars of the night was the scallop appetizer and the grilled shrimp. Expertly prepared and full of flavor. I usually eat fast, but the dishes were so delicious I slowed down to savor them. We ended up here because another restaurant down the road had already stopped serving dinner for the evening, an event that turned out to be fortuitous for us. To top of the night we shared the creme boulille, a perfect end to our meal. And our waitress Erin was wonderful, freindly and attentive. This place gets a full five stars from me. read more

Ah Winfield's, you've done it again. Alright so it was my first time there...but it certainly won't be my last. We came in on a Sunday night, a party of two, and were seated within five minutes. My boyfriend was dead set on ordering the lobster Mac and cheese for an appetizer, and he was not disappointed. Big chunks of lobster, sharp cheddar cheese generously oozing all over orecchietti pasta...are you hungry yet? Next up were the entrees, a sea bass special and grilled steak 'a la mama' ...it should be noted that the chef is from texas, so the menu has a very slight southern twist to it. The mama steak was a large strip steak that was surprisingly tender and dressed in a delicious reduction of some sorts. I cleaned my plate. The striped sea bass came over a sweet potato purée and was one of those dishes that you wished would never end. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, so much flavor in every bite. Our waitress also threw in dessert due to our long wait for our meals without us even complaining. After all we weren't upset, this is BLOCK ISLAND. We're on island time;) all in all, skip the manisses (poor service sub par food) and come here. After dinner they will give you free entry into the bar next door The Yellow Kitten. Hi - My wife and I have been spending summers on Block Island for years, but we have never had dinner at Winfield's until this evening. This is our first week on Block Island after Labor Day and dining options are beginning to become limited. Winfield's was actually closed earlier this week but was open this evening. On this trip we endeavored to try as many restaurants as possible that we had not tried before and Winfield's was at the top of our list. We drove down to the center of town to see what our options were and were happy to see that Winfield's was open. We walked in without a reservation at ~7:15p. We were told a 10'-20' wait, took a seat at the bar, and were seated about 3' later. There were no specials tonight as the restaurants are managing their inventory at the end of the season. After ordering bread came out - small ciabatta rolls with a half head of roasted garlic drizzled with olive oil and dusted with shaved parmesan cheese. Dunk the bread in the olive oil and slather some roasted garlic on the bread. Tremendous. We the shared the half grilled artichoke with house-made garlic aioli. Delicious and satisfying. Entrees were next and my wife had the grilled swordfish with avocado-poblano crema, grilled zucchini, and arugula salad. I had the lobster mac & cheese appetizer as my main course. The swordfish was seasoned well and cooked perfectly - tender, juicy, and with a delicious grilled taste. The lobster mac & cheese was probably the best mac & cheese that we have ever had, even without the lobster. Truly remarkable. I commend the kitchen crew and front of the house staff for delivering a truly memorable evening on Block Island, especially so late in the season. Kudos. read more

A great meal!! Friends had the Lobster Mac and cheese and it was delicious and an ample portion. Would have been enough for a meal with a side salad. Three of us had the steak ala Mama and it was delicious and cooked perfectly. My husband had the duck Confit app. and raved about it. The fourth in our party had the roasted chicken and said it was succulent. The service was great and the hostess got us right in even though we tried to make reservations and they were booked. She told us they leave tables available for walk-ins and after a brief wait, we got a table in the dining room. This is one of the best places on the Island and we go back year after year and it NEVER disappoints. read more

Winfield's is our favorite Block Island eatery for a special night. Three of us enjoyed appetizers and entrees this week. For appetizers, My friend and I shared the bowl of mussels that may have been among the best mussels I've ever had. The broth seemed to be a combination of Asian/maybe lemon grass and Mexican with fresh sliced jalapeños. I think I had the best entree - the seared tuna with rice. You can't go wrong with this entree. My husband had the swordfish. Our friend had the duck confit appetizer for her entree. She left not a morsel on her plate. Our server was on her second or third night and couldn't have been more helpful in guiding us through our menu choices. We look forward to our next visit to Winfield's. read more
