The wine thieves really know how to secure a steal for you on the price of wine! The knowledgeable and curteous staff are very helpful to the novice like me and the expert alike find the right wine to pair with a meal or bring to an occasion. They have a wine club that is totally worth it as well! I have never been a part of a wine club before and from what I have seen of most of them, you pay a yearly/monthly fee AND you have to pay for you wine on top of that.. what a ripoff! but not at the wine theives...you pay a monthly rate and get bottles of wine for it. They have many different kinds of wine and whenever I go in there I know ill be treated to a new discovery at a great price! They have some wonderful cheese and crackers, including Humboldt Fog which is my fav. They have wine tastings on Friday nights which provides a wonderful release to the week. Visited last night for the first time. We decided to buy and drink the bottle there. Walking around the store, there were many surprisingly inexpensive wines. I couldn't believe the prices especially due to it being Lafayette. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable​. I'll be back very soon! read more

Wine Thieves is a very small store, and the way they merchandise their wine (almost all in case stacks) means that they have a very small number of wines on offer at any given time. They do seem to rotate through their stock fairly quickly so there are a few new choices every time I visit (once every couple months). They stock mainly inexpensive bottles, but their pricing is higher than you will find elsewhere. My main issue with their inventory is that at least half of what they sell is available at Safeway and even Trader Joe's just down the road for less. Now - of course I like to support the little guy, and will gladly pay a premium to do so, but I feel this little guy should be doing more to differentiate himself from the chain store competition. That said, there are always a few inspired selections at Wine Thieves that will keep me coming back, albeit infrequently. One benefit to the limited selection however is that staff always seem to have extensive knowledge of every item in stock. I am the sort who prefers to browse a wine shop in silence, but from overhearing them interact with other customers, I can say that the customer service is very good. They are friendly, and I haven't noticed the snobbery that other posters have mentioned. They also stock just a few local microbrews in 50cl bottles, as well as a small but nice selection of fresh cheeses. I haven't come by for the Friday tastings, but will have to try, as they seem popular. 2 for selection + 4 for service = 3 stars. read more

Wine Thieves is the best place ever to get the wine you want at the best prices. The staff is open and warm no matter what question you throw at them. They are all very approachable and knowledgeable across the board on all varietals of wines. I have never been disappointed by any of the staff's recommendations. Wine Thieves also has a fabulous assortment of cheeses, crackers, and various types of salami's. Rod even has some awesome beer selections which are hard to find. I really love this wine store. They have really good wine at reasonalbe prices. They have tasting on the weekends. The store is owned/managed by several guys who are very knowledgeable and approachable. However, they sometimes have young-ish girls working there who are not as knowledgeable. Great wine club, too-and they offer case discounts to wine club members as well. Such a super place during the holidays; find something you like and buy a case to take to holiday parties, etc. Or, to just drink yourself during the holidays if you hate the holidays. I have been visiting Wine Thieves for several years. I love the cozy feel and the staff. I like that they carry the basic stuff as well as the great little treasures as far as price, quality and value. I have enjoyed attending the Friday night tastings as well as some of their more elaborate tastings in the cellar and their various fund raising events in the back parking lot. It is a really cool place where you can find some great values. I also enjoy their cheese selection. It is always clean and inviting with plenty of parking either on the street or their back parking lot. read more

We were visiting Lafayette with friends and stopped by to tell the owner that we had to go back to San Diego soon and we just wanted to relax. He said to "have a seat and have a couple glasses of wine on me I won't charge you. I just want you to have a good time and enjoy yourselves here!" It was incredible. Excellent! The guys are knowledgeable and friendly. They don't upsell, they give their frank opinions on wine. They're wine geeks rather than wine snobs. They also have a super selection of wine. Walked into Wine Thieves on Friday night to pick my favorite Zin "Prisoner". Walked right into a fantastic wine & cheese pairing experience. Got my (well priced) Prisoner, some great (well priced) Roquefort Cheese. Got a little history on the French cheese which is apparently is "the king of cheese and the cheese of kings". The Thieves had a demonstration going where they spread a quince apple spread on the Roquefort with a baguette. Off the hook! Now that is a wine shop...! read more

Nice place to pick up a bottle (or case) of something new. The employees can guide you to the perfect new bottle in any price range, and you can begin pickling your liver in high style. When forced to socialize, I like to buy a bottle of wine at Wine Thieves so I look like less of an ass when leaving the party after twenty minutes.
