Overall: Average. Decent cafe place to pop in for something basic. Will be back to try more. Food/drinks: -Apple pie sponge cake. LOVE. It was a sponge cake in bundt cake form topped with a nice layer of heavy whipped cream as the icing and apple pie filling. Not too sweet and felt light despite knowing it probably wasn't. -Veggie quiche. Too plain for my taste. Needs more use of spices/herbs and maybe a little more salt throughout and not just the top layer. The bottom half was completely plain and bland. Crust could've been better if it was buttery and/or flaky to give it better texture. -Gold Digger. Too sweet for me but my partner enjoyed it. He has more of a sweet tooth. -Chai Charger. Also a bit sweet but I had picked sweet over too gingery when asked which I preferred. Otherwise, tasted good. Space: Rustic feel. Has a pleasantly busy cafe ambiance. I'm a fan of Windy Saddle Cafe and will continue to visit. My favorite part is their kid friendliness with their Kids Corral area and kids menu! The food and lattes are good - I recommend the quiches. My gripes: 1) wish the kids area was cleaner, 2) wish the bathrooms were cleaner. This place gets very busy given the great location in downtown Golden. Visiting before 9:30 am on weekends is ideal. They have outside seating and free wifi. read more

Came here with some hangry toddlers to get lunch. We ordered the caprese sandwich with chicken. The caprese salad was delivered. I took it back to the counter to ask that they switch it for the sandwich I had ordered. They apologized for the mistake and said they would get it out right away. No big deal. After another 20 minutes I went back to the counter to ask. It had been miscommunicated / forgotten about. Okay, super annoying but it happens. After another 10 minutes they brought out the sandwich but it didn't have chicken. I asked them to just give me a side of chicken as by this point my kids were about to have a meltdown. Instead they remade the whole sandwich with chicken. It wound up being a 45 minute ordeal just to get the sandwich. By that point we were past the point of no return with the hangry toddlers and had to just grab a to go box and head to the car. I loved that they had outdoor seating, a kids play area, library, and just a cute little place in general. But just really frustrated with how many times they dropped the ball on the only thing I ordered and they weren't even that busy. read more

Loved this place! We drove downtown on a Saturday morning and just decided to walk around until we found a place. This place did not disappoint! It has a lovey outdoor seating that is dog-friendly and plenty of indoor seating. It's counter service only. There was a line when we arrived around 8:30, but it went pretty quickly. My husband ordered a pork burrito for us to share and it was delicious and the perfect amount for us to share. There's a lovely free library inside, which was also a nice surprise. By the time we left, a little after 9, the line to order was to the door! All in all, we had a great experience. read more

Cutest little cafe that had gluten-free options, yay! I got the breakfast sandwich on GF bread. Was able to get it with turkey sausage or deli turkey instead of bacon. Seasonal coffee drinks and an array of GF treats! I love this cafe so much. They periodically change their seasonal lattes/chai/matcha offerings so there is often a new flavor combo to try. I am a big fan of flavored lattes and they have such interesting blended syrup flavors. Additionally, they make baked goods and GF/VEGAN folks are not left out! I have had fruity coffee cake, a cookie, banana bread, iced cakes, and many other delicious GF treats! I can't speak to their cross-contamination standards for celiac individuals but for gluten-intolerant folks, this is a great cafe to stop by. The ambiance is lovely and the employees are attentive. Notes: they have a 1-hour wifi limit and they have a bathroom but you need a code. read more

I got food poisoning from quite possibly one of the worst breakfast burritos I've ever had. There was grit in the burrito, the eggs were powdered, the tortilla was stale and hard in parts. On top of terrible service where I was given two forks instead of a fork and knife, they gave me a plastic knife and not actual silverware. This cafe has definitely left an impression! I love that they offer inside and outside dining, the cafe's vibe, the menu variety (including gluten-free and vegan dishes), and the cute place. The decor from the lights to the menu sign, to the chairs and art is truly unique. The service was unmatched! Both of the employees I interacted with were kind and friendly. They're also one of the only cafes I've been to with a designated children's play area. Definitely a spot worth popping into while in Golden. playroom. Disappointing Experience The young woman taking our order seemed visibly unhappy and disengaged, which set a negative tone right away. When I asked if I could add cheese to my sand which, she acted put out and she told me she would have to ask (what cafe can you not add cheese to a sand which?) As for the food, the sandwiches (especially the turkey and chicken salad) were very underwhelming. The bread-to-filling ratio was way off--mine was mostly dry bread and arugula, with barely any chicken salad. Definitely not worth the price and will not be returning. read more

I have a dear friend who is struggling with terminal cancer and can only eat gluten free food. I reached out to the owner Deeann to see if they could bake up a few of their gluten-free specialties to take to my friend.. When I arrived to pick it up today, much to my surprise Baker Chloe paid for it herself, saying she wanted to pay it forward. The family, and all of our friends were so moved by this act of unexpected generosity that it brought a lot of light into a difficult situation. Plus the food is delicious! Super cute little coffee shop. Indoor and outdoor seating, right on the Main Street of Golden. It was very colorful inside with display of foods and chalkboards covered in different color writing with all the things they have to offer. I ordered an iced pumpkin spice latte, the peach chia pudding, the goat, zucchini quiche, and an apple crumb cake. They had so many options. It was hard to choose. The coffee was good, a little bit stronger than I would have liked for a decaf. I don't know if I would order that one again since there are so many other amazing looking choices. The peach chia pudding was five star. The pudding was a perfect texture and the addition of the peaches was perfect. I would also get the goat cheese, zucchini quiche, a five star rating. A generous portion and very flavorful. The only thing from keeping this from a five star rating is the Apple crumb cake. Not only did it have no flavor, but it was dry and hard as a rock. It looked very good, but I must've gotten an NP and I could not even cut into the back half of it. I would definitely try another bakery item next time because they had some incredible looking pies, but I would stay away from the crumb cakes. read more

I've been here a few times for a chai fix; my most recent experience was being the in-laws. We were walking around Golden and stopped for some coffee - I got the spicy chai (have had the sweet and ginger turmeric previously). I was a little disappointed with this one, the depth of flavor was lacking but there was a slight bite to it at the end. The place overall is super cute and is always busy. I like how they have a kids corner in the back for children to play in! Overall will continue to stop here for coffee if I'm in town. read more

My hometown of Golden, CO has many local gems, and Windy Saddle Cafe is one of them! I'm not sure what took me so long to try them out, but it's better late than never. They have delicious breakfast burritos, lunch sandwiches, pastries, and a vast array of coffees and teas. My favorites are the vegetarian (or non vegetarian) breakfast burrito or the figgy pig panini for lunch. Their portions are HUGE and the prices are very reasonable! Any of their daily pastries are to die for (they rotate what they have), and I love that they have GF and vegetarian options. The indoor space is great for working, they have a handful of outlets and tables. You can also opt to sit outside in their patio area. Whether you're a Golden local or tourist passing through, definitely stop by and support local! read more

Great selections! I finished a hike with some friends and we were all hungry. We had two dogs with us so we decided to eat here because they had outdoor seating. They had a wide selection of breakfast and pastry items. I ended up getting the cinnamon roll! They even offered to warm it up for me. The icing melted perfectly around the roll and it was so sweet!! They worked with me for my allergies, though when food arrived at the table, the person delivering it to us seemed very blase about if mine was gluten free or not (other person with me had ordered regular bread, same sandwich). They'd also indicated one mustard I couldn't have and I'm fairly certain that ended up being what was on my sandwich. I wiped off the mustard and tossed out most of my veggies that were covered in it and took benedryl before eating the meat and other half the bread, but wish I'd been able to have more confidence in it. (I already felt like a total nag for the 8+ min it took to order and all the questions and double checking the bread after arrival at the table with the counter staff. There's an extent I clam up at when interacting about my allergies and we reached it here. That being said, the girl taking my order seemed to genuinely care and was doing all she could to make it a good experience, so they still get 4 stars from me.) Today we found ourselves in Golden doing the self guided history tour. That was really interesting as a side note. I was craving a sandwich and so the hubs and I stopped in here to support local. Plus someone on the patio was eating a sandwich from here and it looked super tasty. I ended up getting the veggie burrito which was filled with eggs, cheese, spinach, sweet potato and black beans. I topped with a little bit of sour cream and it was a solid burrito. The hubs got the Thunderbird sandwich with turkey, cheese, tomato, chipotle mayo and avocado served hot. It was really tasty as well and was a large sandwich. He also ordered an americano and the coffee was strong and really well balanced. So confused...ordered the round up wrap which is a wrap with vegetables and hummus. The web site gives you a choice of various breads. So I selected sour dough. Placed order for pick up. Plan was to take the sandwich and sit at the park. Picked up order and found a good spot at the park. Opened bag and I was shocked. This is what was in the bag: 1 slice of bread, 1 small container of hummus and 1 medium container of tomatoes, cucumber and carrots. So basically I was given the components to make a sandwich. Not what I expected. And of course; I had no plate nor utensils to make a sandwich. I've had this wrap before and they construct the sandwich. Pretty much a ruined lunch. The Greek Salad was HUGE, though I thought the falafel was just ok (plenty of cilantro. Love it!) and the sandwiches also looked awesome.
