We also tried the chocolate pistachio croissant which was also super messy and leaked everywhere on the warm day. The staff was friendly enough and there is plenty of outside seating.

We finally decided to check out the shopping and dining district. Rheinlander was our final (and best!) stop. The bakery dates back to 1963 and is now on the third generation of ownership. The quality is certainly being maintained at a high level. This is a traditional, German bakery with a huge variety of authentic European cakes, cupcakes, sweet and savory pastries, pies, cookies, coffee cakes, and the only reason I think a German bakery should exist--strudel! Strudels are available whole, half, or by the slice. The usual flavors are apple, cherry, blueberry cream cheese, cherry cream cheese, and Boston cream. We bought slices of the apple, cherry, and blueberry cream cheese. These were perfection and absolutely delightful. I was totally focused on the strudel case (yes, there's a lot of strudel on offer), but I believe there are eight huge cases of treats, each one looking more enticing than the next. Quite a few gluten-free, sugar-free, and dairy-free options are available, so if that's what you need, this is the place for you. The bakery was moderately busy during our visit. There was plenty of staff and they were all friendly, helpful, and very efficient, so purchases moved swiftly. Lots of coffee and drink options are available. There's nice outside seating if you can't wait to take your goodies home. It's a long drive for us, but we were really impressed and we'll find a reason to visit Arvada so we can stop back soon. Yum.

The cake was the perfect level of sweetness and packed with flavor from carrots, walnuts, raisins, and spices (and I'm sure much more). I also loved the simple decorations on the top! A friend of mine picked up the cake and he and my boyfriend said that from start to finish Mark was great to work with. I should note that my boyfriend lives in Austin, TX so it means even more to me that the process went so smoothly. Thanks Meraki! The icing shell did the same. The Mille-Feuille was over cooked and had old whipped cream inside and on top. The waxy coating of the tongue occurred there too. The strawberry atop the dessert was so old I believe it would have been an issue for the health department. I couldn't eat or drink any of it. I am appalled by what they sold me. Definitely take it home and warm it up (or I bet if you ask they will warm it for you, we just didn't think to ask). The biscuits and gravy were excellent- the country gravy was super peppery and had little chunks of sausage in it.
