I had a sunroom redone -- new floor, new support posts, ceiling, lighting, etc. During the entire process, Bob was extremely unpleasant, to put it mildly. That would be fine, if the work was done well. It most certainly was not. The floor was a complete disaster. A wide plank floor with gaps up to 1/8" in between planks. A sanding and stain job that looked like it was done by someone who's never installed a floor before. Sanding circles all over the floor and bubbles in the poly virtually everywhere. The ceiling planks weren't installed properly and separated and cracked just days after install. The drywall repair was done horribly, the mud wasn't sanded properly and they painted over everything before it dried. To top it all off, they initially put in the wrong supports under the sunroom, only to replace them with the "proper" ones that they decided to cut too short, causing the entire room to separate from the house by about 1/4". For you own sake, if you're reading this review please stay away from these clowns.

I called around looking for an emergency repair and all the roofing outfits I spoke to either weren't interested in a small patch job, didn't want to do a repair without a commitment to an entire new roof, or couldn't come out in any less than a couple weeks. Except for Cahill Roofing. Mark himself called me back and came out immediately - on a Sunday. He crawled around my unfinished attic and found a spot where the plywood sheathing had warped - the source of the leak. I asked him how soon he could send someone back out to do the repair. He said he had what he needed in his truck and would make the repair on the spot. He braced the warped plywood and replaced some shingles. Mark really saved the day, and at a reasonable price. After some research I realized we had exceeded the expected 20-year lifespan of the roof and decided to replace it. We didn't want to push our luck as the roof was old and had already failed once. I called around for estimates. Based upon a competitive bid and our prior excellent experience with the repair we selected Cahill Roofing. We picked out the shingles, nailed down timing and were ready to go. The day before the job we decided the shingles we selected were too light and wanted a darker shade. I called to see how hard it would be to change at the last minute. No problem and no restocking fee or upcharge. Mark arrived the day before his crew to do some prep work and shingled some of the tougher spots around dormers and an atrium window. His crew of perhaps 10 men and women arrived the next day and were like ants crawling all over the house. The old roof came off and the new one went on in a single day. The roof looks fantastic! I have never found a nail, piece of shingle, or any debris around the house which is a major safety concern with kids and pets. My new roof was installed on time, on budget, and without any complications. Mark and his crew were professional throughout the process. This review describes our experiences with Cahill roofing. Our interactions have not measured up to his motto of with "honesty, integrity, and top-quality craftsmanship." Our interactions had three strikes - he was defensive before looking at the work, he denied there was an issue when he inspected it, and he had no interest in discussing what an independent analysis of his work showed. Nineteen years ago, Mark Cahill replaced and installed the entire roof of our house including rafters, plywood, shingles, vents, etc... The roof had a couple of significant leaks since installation. Mark Cahill was relatively cooperative during the first leak at around the ten-year mark. He did the repair for an additional charge. During the most recent known leak, which independent professionals have stated has likely been going on for a long period of time, his approach changed drastically. We lost electricity on one-side of our house and after three visits from our electrician a leak in the attic was discovered. Our electrician concluded that this was the likely cause for our power outage and told us that we should get in touch with a roofer. We contacted Cahill immediately. During the initial call, before even coming to the house, he blamed the water in our attic on everything from a humidifier that only runs for a few hours over night in the winter, to the bathroom vent, as well as the roof angles. When he did come to the house to inspect the issue from the inside, he decided there wasn't enough air flow coming through the attic vents (which he could've set up properly when he rebuilt the roof initially) and stated that our granite chimney is impossible to make water tight. He seemed particularly fixated upon our granite chimney being a challenge and was unwilling to commit to the possibility that there was an actual leak in the roof. (If he is so intimidated by granite chimneys then why did he accept work he is unable to perform correctly?) He came back a second time to investigate the roof itself and concluded that the issue was chimney pointing. It was pretty obvious to my wife and I that there was a leak and you can't fix what is not acknowledged. We decided an independent opinion was the best path forward to evaluate our roof. We asked Nick at NJP Contracting to evaluate our roof with a roofer he trusts, Quinn at Eco Pro Roofing. Nick has helped us for years with multiple properties and his work consistently holds up really well. They found significant issues with the setup of the "cricket box", which connects the roof to the chimney. The cricket box had two primary issues - the angles were too shallow and the flashing was incorrectly setup. Specifically, the flashing had two main issues: it went under the shingles as opposed to on top of the shingles and there was no channel put into the granite for a uniform interface between the roof and chimney. Not surprisingly, these two issues led to water getting under the shingles destroying the ply underneath. I called Cahill to discuss what the independent review found and to get his thoughts. I was hoping to negotiate a fix. Instead, he told us he had plenty of work and was not interested in repairing the work - we should go through someone else to repair his poor craftsmanship. Eco Pro roofing ended up repairing the damage and after two days of heavy rain it was apparent water wasn't getting into the house anymore. They replaced a significant amount of plywood, properly angled the cricket box, and installed the flashing in a way that could handle the amounts of water needed.

LIke many people, we rely on customer reviews and word of mouth when hiring for home projects. Despite being the most expensive option, we chose Refined Roofing after relying on other customer reviews. A huge mistake! In short, do not hire Refined Roofing because of their lack of site management, their lack of professionalism, and their deceitful behavior. We live in a neighborhood where houses are close to one another. We were concerned about the impact of our project on our neighbors and made this clear to Refined Roofing at the start. We were promised careful site management from a site supervisor, with a specific promise to tarp the area, including the neighbor's yard, to capture all debris. NO supervisor was on site during the actual execution of the project. As the photo shows, the area was INADEQUATELY tarped, debris was carelessly spewed all over our property and our neighbor's. When supervisors finally visited the site, they promised to repair the neighbor's yard. Once I paid my bill, they refused to make good on their promise. Additionally, the actual workmanship was sloppy. Among other things, they knowingly applied broken shingles to the new roof and did not apply a promised second coat of rubber in one area. Furthermore, the owners of Refined Home Services, Gino and Karen, were rude, dismissive, and dishonest when confronted with the facts. They denied that there was any debris mismanagement or damage, despite the photo proof included here. While the company replaced the broken shingles and finally cleaned up the initial mess, they refused to take responsibility for the damage they caused and left us in the uncomfortable situation they created with our neighbors. In short, Refined Roofing lacks quality of service, integrity, and decency. This company is not worth hiring ... ever.

After having hired him for extensive work, I believe that Gino Spero runs a racket business that…read morebilks homeowners by lying about labor done and materials used. He gives you a relatively high estimate (supposedly because of quality) and then farms out the labor to a cheaper third party subcontractor for whom he does inadequate quality assurance nor does he supervise. He lies on the contract and becomes borderline unreachable once the work is finished and inevitably deteriorates as the seasons change. We hired him to build a roof which he did not weatherproof--or likely did not inform his subcontractors to--and then denied any wrongdoing once the roof started to collapse. There are open holes on the roof not even supported by plywood and he afterward tried to claim that the wrapping paper and felt used between wood and shingles was really a water shield as stated in his contract, which of course is a categorical lie. When confronted with the photos he lied again and stated that the "Grace ice and water shield" had really been used. It was not. The damage caused by this is extremely expensive and time consuming to address. The entire roof is covered with cheap paper. The leaks are extensive and directly above the HVAC system and electrical equipment. In addition to that the shingles are hastily glued on and too few were used overall which of course can only lead to more water penetration. They ended up tossing a good number of shingles that we had bought from them. The deck was full of holes, and the roof corners not even taped or covered with plywood. He tried to blame all leaks on parts of the roof he did not work on but this is easily disproven by an objective outside party. Even more fatally, the decks were not built with any slope or incline, so they collect water like rice cookers. He of course did not offer to fix or reimburse for the necessary work to fix it and is onto his next scam. We tried calling him countless times to fix the damage but he never showed up. You can get away with a lot of borderline fraudulent behavior in the contracting world and he is an embarrassment to other roofers and honest people in this business.

These bumps along the way were handled skillfully and effortlessly and they walked us thru their recommended solutions at every turn. The team was professional, knowledgeable, friendly & respectful. We were able to work from home without any interruptions or concerns. The work itself was top-notch as everyone on the team was skilled in many different areas. If a tile issue came up when the carpentry guys were on-site, they were able to seamlessly switch gears and solve the problem. They sought our input and kept us in the loop every step of the way. They offered suggestions and solutions that made us confident in our decision to use them for such a large project. They took care to finish every last detail and a few weeks after the bathroom was completed, Mike stopped by to fix an AC vent cover that got stuck in the shut position when re-installed. We just discovered a huge leak in our kitchen during a remodel as a result of a hack job done…read morefixing step flashing that a previous Home Depot subcontractor didn't install correctly. They left at least two holes in the side of the house and just caulked the layers underneath where other shingles should have been put. When I called, they claimed they new it wasn't right but there was nothing they could do. The Better business bureau will be hearing from us next.

The estimate came way below the other 2 we got. We didn't go with them because if price.... but the initial inspection. The crew of 5 guys were amazing. They arrived at 8 and got right to work after setting up. No radios, no one smoking and no breaks till 12 noon. An hour tonthe minute they were back to work. We had an issue with wood roof members and I decided to re apply the entire roof with new wood. We weren't taken advantage of and still came below the other estimates. Clean up at 6 each night WS done in a manner you'd never really know they were there. When we needed the additional wood it arrived in time for the install. Job supervisor dropped the job twice each day. I would highly recommend Better Built for your home repairs and renovations
