Definitely a local vibe. While not the fancies food in the world, there is a bit of nostalgia associated with these hot dogs. Cooked on an open grill, they have a great char to them, and the hotdog quality itself is very good. The buns themselves don't seem like they are made fresh or anything special, but are still pretty soft. We all got a regular grilled hot dog, and topped them with different items. My combo was the sautéed onions and sweet pepper relish which was very yummy. The people behind the counter were amazing and super high energy. We stopped here and order four orders of chicken and fries to bring to the beach. The serving sizes were very large and we could have split them. We drove to the beach and the food was still extremely hot and not too soggy. I really enjoyed the honey mustard they it came with. But then on my third chicken finger I bit in and something was a little hard. I spilt it out and there was a bone or cartilage not sure that was almost four inches long. I would have choked on it if I shallowed it!! I just spilt it out right away and couldn't even look at it. I was so grossed out for the rest of the day and everyone else stopped eating their meal. Always love windmill. Chili dog and cheese fries are my staple. Disappointed when they closed Brick location but still come around once a week or two to Belmar location. Good sized great tasting hot dog grilled perfectly. They give refills on soda just have to ask. It's a bit pricey compared to a regular dog but bigger and well worth it. My chili dog, cheese fries and large soda was $15. I had a Nathans recently and it was puny compared to WindMill. read more

Stopped by as I know this is a Jersey Shore Institution. Sadly, it's been neglected. Avoid at all costs if you want a clean restaurant experience. Ever walk into a place, grab the door handle and you get that feeling of "grease". Stuck on, old, just sticky. Well, it did not get any better. The Male staff was pretty much all staring at a young girl at the counter, took my order without even looking at me and then I waited. 10 mins for a burger is not good. Got to sit at the counter and just felt the "greasiness" everywhere, the stool, the counter, the napkin holder. It was not a very good experience. Windmill seems to be a shore staple and I never really tried it. I know they serve hot dogs but apparently they have burgers and fries too. The hot dogs are big but $6 for a hot dog?! Come on. The hot dogs did have a good snap to it. The problem is it was kind of dirty in there. The condiments weren't tidy and didn't seem appetizing. I stuck with the chilli dog and it was actually decent. The chili didn't have much flavor so I would get just a hot dog next time with sauerkraut and mustard. It is fast food so you can be in and out quickly. It has a convenient location coming into Belmar so if your hungry give it a try. read more

I must say the food is delicious though somewhat pricey. Yes, you can get coupons online every month for discounts. Watch for them. A hot dog costs $4.69 + tx=$5.01. A great dog with most any condiments you could want. The interior is a bit dirty and the garbage pails are always full. This could be duly corrected by management. I finally made an effort to try this classic Jersey shore establishment. After spending hours on a fishing charter fighting motion sickness, Windmill seemed like the perfect place to indulge for a greasy, guilty, but delicious quick eat. I got the chili dog--this was huge! The hot dog itself was okay on its own but I thought the chili was delicious. Could taste the tomato undertone well. I loved the cheese fries, exactly what you'd expect for them to taste like. However, my boyfriend thought the hamburger with bacon was just average. Not a bad spot especially after a long day when you just need quick grub. They had outdoor picnic tables which was nice on a warm early summer night, and bonus points because the bathrooms were clean which made my heart so happy. read more

5 stars for the good old days! The windmill hot dog was one of the big reasons you were a lucky kid if you grew up at the Jersey shore in the 60s. Juicy, fat and delicious! Nothing like them anywhere! "Headin' out to the Mill" was almost an Olympic sport for us. It was always something to look forward to. The hamburgers, fries and cokes were also great, but you could get them anywhere - it was the hotdogs we were after. The original, West End, Long Branch, once was a real working windmill. (The original sails partially destroyed by a hurricane in the 1970s, replaced with a replica.) It was also a social mingling spot. Your Saturday Night was complete I may not make it as far north as Long Branch, but I'm going to hit Belmar for sure. I'm going back someday - come what May. read more

As much as I love to dine well, I also enjoy dining well cheaply. The Belmar Windmill is often my choice for the latter. One of NJ's top hot dog joints, the Windmill chain has a strong shore presence-somehow the outposts further north never really caught on. (Summit, Westfield all fell victim to high rents I think). The Belmar Windmill is convenient to friends who live nearby, and now I'm 'down the shore' it's my go to Windmill location. Belmar Windmill is well staffed, they move the line quickly, and never bat an eye when I ask for a hot dog taken off the flat top and finished on the char grill for a moment. The Big Ed burger is a fine treat, and when I ask for it as rare as possible the cook presented it, saying 'moo' to confirm it's rare indeed! Onion rings are usually good, the condiment bar well stocked (love the pickle chips), and they usually have the local free papers in a stack toward the back of the restaurant. I think I was about 13 y/o before I ever realized that there was an original in Long Branch which is still by (IMO) the best and most charming. But I like this one for a few reasons: the space, more places to sit, more places to park and it's in Belmar. I love Belmar for some strange reason. Anyhoo, if you read my other reviews on WindMill, you need cheese fries and hot dogs. OK if you are a vegetarian, get the veggie burger (still f'ing good), and I think they have deep fried mushrooms.
