We had an average experience here at Windham Diner. It was kind of busy so giving grace for that, but the atmosphere was that of stress and angst which really didn't add to our experience. The food was ok, the drunken sailor was very greasy and the fries served with it were equally greasy so it was a little difficult to eat. My husband enjoyed his burger and our daughter enjoyed her pizza. Maybe a quieter moment would have given us a better experience. read more

Interesting place it's more like a diner and restaurant we ended up eating breakfast and lunch all in one sitting. I had the hungry man which is steak and eggs with regular toast and home fries. Sue had the four deuces which we don't know why it was call dad because all it was was pancakes, bacon, sausage and eggs on the side. I tasted the pancakes they were good of course I drowned them in syrup like I always do but I still taste the pancakes. Sue asked for a diet Coke and I can't believe the size of the cup she got it was Huge I asked for chocolate milk I got a tiny cup. This review is based on the take-out experience at Windham Diner. We called a couple of times first to understand the menu, and then to order and then again to make changes to our order and they folks taking our call were super friendly throughout and very accommodating of our multiple questions and changes. They were ready for us to pick up our food in 15 minutes! The portions were generous - we had enough leftovers for at least another meal!. And moreover, the dishes were very tasty - of course, their classic diner fare such as burgers and chicken fingers were done well, very much to the enjoyment of my children. We also ordered some higher degree of difficulty dishes, such as the seared chicken over Greek salad and the caprese salad, both of which were also very well prepared - the salad dressing was very subtle and neither too acidic nor too heavy - very well balanced overall. To top it off, as we were leaving, my wife spied some very delicious looking cake behind the counter and went back to purchase some for our meal, only to find out that they already provided us 4 pieces for free! It was such a nice treat and definitely added to the experience. All in all, we found the Windham diner to be a great local diner for takeout with the customer service, portion size and overall food quality to be excellent. Definitely recommended. read more

Knowing that several yelps contained comments about the service, we still settled on stopping in here before the annual Independence Day parade and fireworks held in town. A lesson here before continuing, opinions are like...well you know. Everyone has one. Sometimes you have to go for it and make your own decision as to whether it's good. Should a place be great 100% of the time? Yes, but are they ever? Certainly not. On this day, Michael's was pretty damn great. We had chosen two specials for dinner. First, the Veggie Mediterranean Delight. A veggie patty topped with roasted red peppers and melted mozzarella cheese, sitting on a whole wheat pita. Served with a side of a fantastic raw shredded vegetable salad with a vinaigrette and a bit of feta. Excellent, in a word. Also, we asked for a drunken sailor...and the server said she needed one, too! (Awesome!) It was three pieces of beer battered cod, Cole slaw, and wasabi tartar sauce on a German hefeweiser roll, accompanied by the same great salad mentioned above, but in a light mayo instead. This was a real winner, as you could actually taste the beer in the batter that was fried crisp, clinging to each piece of flaky, moist fish. Topping off the meal, we were brought a couple of pieces of Independence Day cake on the house. Yellow cake with lemon filling, whipped cream topping, fresh strawberries...all looking like the flag of the USA. A very cool, old school, nice touch. Service was great, experienced, friendly, helpful, and worthy of a nice tip. I'm holding back a star for not taking credit cards. For an upstate diner, this place has to be one of the better ones. In fact, calling it a diner is probably an understatement. I've been here quite a few times over the years and have been pleasantly surprised with a bunch of their dinner specials. Try the fresh roast turkey with apple stuffing and gravy..........it's da bomb diggity! Breakfasts are really good too. The staff is friendly and the service is fast. If you come on the weekend, arrive early because it can get crowded. I would definitely recommend visiting here if you're in the Windham area. We ordered chopped steak two times. The portion is very generous and the meat is very juicy. The mashed potatoes on the side is very creamy. If you are a meat lover, you have to try it out. We also had fried chicken basket. I would say it's the best fried chicken I've ever had, and even the chicken breast is very flavorful. The service is friendly. The menu is interesting and extensive. My mil had the biggest, juiciest pork chops I've ever seen and they were delicious. I got the Cajun chicken and pork and it was great and the portion was unbelievable. I come here every couple of years and then wonder why I haven't been in so long. It's the most reliable restaurant in town and it's possibly the best food. My soda was served in a giant cup and they sent us home with complimentary cake, maybe it's a Christmas thing. read more

We loved our mini smorgasbord of a Tuna Melt, Buffalo cauliflower, fried green beans with bacon aioli and pretzel sticks with some truly awesome beer cheese! I often forget why I'm less than fond of (most) diners and am often rudely reminded why. Now I merely have a tingling warning sensation. This experience will reinforce it. The service was OK on average, with the big exception that it took them longer to get our check than for us to order and eat our dinner. They were pretty understaffed, so that might have been it - but it seemed like only one person was handling checks, and we saw several other tables waiting for checks as well. The food itself was really pretty measly. The nachos were something of a joke, with questionable ground beef, canned salsa and 'nachos' - some cross between fried tortillas and... not sure what. The meatloaf was OK, the wings were pretty sub-par, and the steak and eggs were OK. The chicken fingers were probably the best. But not by a lot. Maybe just avoid this place and wait it out for some of the other restaurants in the area. read more

So, what can I say about this family owned diner on main street? Well...its the only one in town, their menu is super cheap for all meals of the day, and the portion sizes are decent. Oh yeah...their lack of good service was worse than the lack of good flavors in their food. The slow and often clueless wait staff at Michael's Diner, makes the service at IHOP look like a Ruth's Chris Steak House instead. Listen, we understand that (you're) the only diner in town, but would it kill you to smile, hand us menus, fill our waters/coffees, and remember our orders? Overall, yes, this place is a pathetic "Meh"...but I had no other choice in this small ski town, and they clearly show you how much they know that as soon as you walk through the front door. Coming from the Long Island/New York City Metro Area, where diners are plentiful - Michael's Diner still has to be one of my favorite diners. I went to this diner en route to Windham and Hunter mountain for a snowboarding trip with friends. Located seconds away from Windham Ski Resort and with an ample parking lot - Michael's Diner was a convenient meeting place for our group of 17+. Our group was quickly seated down together and the service was fast. The waitress especially left a great impression on me - such a warm personality that is an absolute necessity to any close-to-heart diner. I ordered the Chocolate Pancakes, a bowl of oatmeal, and the farmer's omelette. Other people in my group similarly ordered big breakfasts - with priority on Michael Diner's omelets. The food came reasonably fast and was truly delicious. The home fries "hit home", and I have to say this was one of the best breakfast/brunch combinations of my young life. The best part was the price of it all. A group so big, yet the check was unbelievably reasonable. It wasn't just affordable, but delivered a great (in a good way) shock! We returned once more (driving miles to Windham from Hunter Mountain) just for Michael's Diner before we left for New York City. I highly, highly recommend Michael's Diner for anybody in the area. It is located in a cute town on the bottom of Windham Ski Mountain. Parking is a definite plus! read more

My family and I stopped for lunch. My husband and father got gyros and my mother got souvlaki they all really enjoyed their meals. I got the turkey bacon club and it was delish. I had an apres ski takeout feast of buffalo wings and disco fries. Both were truly delicious. Wings were perfectly crisp and tossed in really awesome buffalo sauce. Fries were freshly cooked, crisp but not overdone, and covered in a savory gravy with generous amounts of melted mozzarella cheese. Hungry yet? Never have I been so humiliated in my life! As a disabled combat veteran who suffers from anxiety and ptsd I have a hard enough time going to crowded public places, including restaurants. This past weekend i was visiting my in laws and we decided to go out to dinner. They let me choose, seeing as though I had to find a place where I could pick an item from the menu for my 9 month old baby. We walked into this diner and seeing as it wasnt too crowded and the menu was fairly extensive I chose this place. I ordered the chicken parmigiana from the kids menu for my son (he loves chicken) and asked that it come out asap, since he was starving and didnt understand the concept of waiting for food. His food showed up 10 minutes after we all got ours. Then I started cutting it up and had a hard time cutting. So I asked my husband to try it because it felt rubbery. He said it was disgusting and something was definitely wrong with it. So we asked the waitress to just take it off the bill and charge us for the spaghetti. A few minutes later the owner comes out with the chicken, yelling at me telling me its soft, how dare I return it. I told him it was not soft, it was rubbery and I did not find it to be eatible for my son. He kept cutting it up in front of me yelling at me, telling me I shouldn't have ordered it for him, that it was from the kids menu, not for babies. Then when he walked away I said to my husband "did that really just happen? That was so inappropriate!" And he turned around and yelled at me again and told me to leave, that he did not want me in his restaurant. Then my father in law told him he was out of line and he told them to leave also. My father in law paid for the bill so this man wouldnt think we were "trying to get a free meal out of him" (as he said) while my husband and I left with our 11 year old (who witnessed this all) and our baby. When I walked out I had a severe panic attack that did not break for 45 minutes thanks to this man who clearly has zero customer service skills or people skills at that. All i was trying to do was feed my baby... Side note, my husband and his brother both believe they got food poisoning from their meals. I did not have a chance to eat my meal, since I was trying to feed the baby. The whole thing was an absolute nightmare! read more

Michael's is the best! We were staying in Windham and looking for a quick bite to eat. We stopped at Michae'ls around 4pm on a Monday and ordered burgers to go. The waitress, I wish i remembered her name, was wonderful! Super nice and helpful! We ordered the Americana Burger which was delicious as were the fries and the bacon aioli! To top it all off, when we had ordered we discussed ordering dessert to go but decided not to. When the waitress brought out the food, she said she included two slices of cake; on the house - courtesy of the owner Nick! What a wonderful surprise! We have never been able to finish our meal. There's always leftovers! The owners, Nick and Vicki, make you feel right at home. They are warm, personable and genuine.
