I had an apres ski takeout feast of buffalo wings and disco fries. Both were truly delicious. Wings were perfectly crisp and tossed in really awesome buffalo sauce. Fries were freshly cooked, crisp but not overdone, and covered in a savory gravy with generous amounts of melted mozzarella cheese. Hungry yet? Never have I been so humiliated in my life! As a disabled combat veteran who suffers from anxiety and ptsd I have a hard enough time going to crowded public places, including restaurants. This past weekend i was visiting my in laws and we decided to go out to dinner. They let me choose, seeing as though I had to find a place where I could pick an item from the menu for my 9 month old baby. We walked into this diner and seeing as it wasnt too crowded and the menu was fairly extensive I chose this place. I ordered the chicken parmigiana from the kids menu for my son (he loves chicken) and asked that it come out asap, since he was starving and didnt understand the concept of waiting for food. His food showed up 10 minutes after we all got ours. Then I started cutting it up and had a hard time cutting. So I asked my husband to try it because it felt rubbery. He said it was disgusting and something was definitely wrong with it. So we asked the waitress to just take it off the bill and charge us for the spaghetti. A few minutes later the owner comes out with the chicken, yelling at me telling me its soft, how dare I return it. I told him it was not soft, it was rubbery and I did not find it to be eatible for my son. He kept cutting it up in front of me yelling at me, telling me I shouldn't have ordered it for him, that it was from the kids menu, not for babies. Then when he walked away I said to my husband "did that really just happen? That was so inappropriate!" And he turned around and yelled at me again and told me to leave, that he did not want me in his restaurant. Then my father in law told him he was out of line and he told them to leave also. My father in law paid for the bill so this man wouldnt think we were "trying to get a free meal out of him" (as he said) while my husband and I left with our 11 year old (who witnessed this all) and our baby. When I walked out I had a severe panic attack that did not break for 45 minutes thanks to this man who clearly has zero customer service skills or people skills at that. All i was trying to do was feed my baby... Side note, my husband and his brother both believe they got food poisoning from their meals. I did not have a chance to eat my meal, since I was trying to feed the baby. The whole thing was an absolute nightmare! read more

Michael's is the best! We were staying in Windham and looking for a quick bite to eat. We stopped at Michae'ls around 4pm on a Monday and ordered burgers to go. The waitress, I wish i remembered her name, was wonderful! Super nice and helpful! We ordered the Americana Burger which was delicious as were the fries and the bacon aioli! To top it all off, when we had ordered we discussed ordering dessert to go but decided not to. When the waitress brought out the food, she said she included two slices of cake; on the house - courtesy of the owner Nick! What a wonderful surprise! Good spot for a quick breakfast before you hit the mountain. Been here several times for that, but haven't eaten here otherwise. Prices are great. Food is pretty good. Love the hash browns and had an awesome omelette yesterday morning. I have never had a problem with bad service as some other reviewers have. Maybe those reviewers had a bad attitude and the locals didn't take to it very well. I see it all the time and people like that give the rest of us (New Yorkers) a bad name. Say "please" and "thank you" .... Maybe you will get better service. Or, try controlling yourself and not bouncing off the walls 24/7. You might be on vacation, but you are visiting their home. Michael's Diner is our favorite go to place in Windham New York. The food is always fantastic! Pork chops with hot cherry peppers is the best around. They are extremely generous with their portions! We have never been able to finish our meal. There's always leftovers! The owners, Nick and Vicki, make you feel right at home. They are warm, personable and genuine. They are generous, and excellent with large families and lots of kids. If you're looking for a really good food, and really good people, Michael's Diner is the best! read more

"Diner" is not really fitting because Nick, the owner of Michael's, is a real chef. We have even ordered our Thanksgiving Turkey from him and by far the best turkey my family has ever had. True that Michaels offers traditional diner fare, but its when you get into the more substantial offerings such as his prime rib or pulled pork that you realize Nick has skills that go well beyond the grill. The food here was pretty good but there are a few bad things about this place that probably needs some adjustments. I'm from the city and these people don't have a good attitude and got nervous when a big group walked in. I heard one of the waiters screaming at someone through the phone right next to our table. It's pretty cold in here so I had to keep my coat on. This place is also cash only which just makes them lose customers because not everyone nowadays holds cash, they are just avoiding to pay taxes. We had to drive all the way to the bank which is 28 miles up the road just to get cash. My friend asked for no pickles, tomatoes, or lettuce and still got them on the burger. We didn't feel welcomed here and they rushed us out by giving us the check while we were still eating (we didn't ask for the check and were continuing to order). Overall this place is pretty bad and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I am very happy to be going home to the big city to get a real service that cares about there customers. Oh... one more thing, DONT CHARGE FOR WATER ITS A BAD LOOK. read more

Very friendly staff and very big portions! After a long day of snowboarding Michael's really hits the spot. Food is decent - as good as any diners in NY but with 50% more food in a homier setting. Michaels Diner use to be my "go to" place every time I visited Windham, but the last few times have left me and my family very disappointed. First lets talk about the service. The owners wife really should not wait tables. She clearly lacks people skills. She is rude and has no patience. It's almost as if she doesn't want to be there. We felt as if we were bothering her if we asked for anything; for example napkins. She never checked up on us to see if everything was ok. And believe me Nothing was ok. I understand the stress of running a restaurant (I own two in the city) but honestly if you're the owner and you are showing your paying customers bad service that is not a good sign. This is upstate for Petes sake! It's not like it's high volume. The restaurant was empty the last time we were there. We ordered a burger that was the texture of rubber and it had a bad smell. The quesadilla was dry and hardly any cheese. We brought this to the waitresses attention and she said "oh no it's fresh" and charged us anyway.  The only reason I'm giving this diner two stars is because the prices are reasonable for the portion you get. Also, we respect Nick the owner (opposite personality of his abrasive wife).  Nick if you read this, make your wife stay at home instead of trying to ruin your business. I am usually not at all a person to get annoyed with mediocre service but this took the price. We were a group of friends coming for brunch, it took us about 1 hour before we finally received our food. The food was fine, nothing special but not bad however the exceptionally slow service drove us all crazy. I was in town for the World Cup mountain bike race and this diner was recommended to me by a few locals. Michael's Diner will not be receiving my business in the future for this race. My group was not greeted at the door so we sat ourselves. A waitress eventually provided us with menus, but we were not offered water or coffee. After 20 minutes of being ignored by staff who preferred to drink coffee instead of serve us, we got up and left. The prices seemed reasonable though. read more

We've been coming here for years but mostly for breakfast. Always happy with the food & service. Today we came for dinner & the seafood fra diavolo was amazing. This review is solely based on customer service because I haven't tried my food yet. I came into this diner tonight to grab some food to go. As a vegan consumer, it is often difficult and intimidating to order food in restaurants. Our waitress was very helpful in gathering information about what items contained butter etc. We were also approached by another wonderful waitress who not only shared with me that their veggie burger was certified vegan but also gave me another menu option and explained how to make it vegan for me. I have never been taken care of so well in a restaurant. They absolutely catered to my special requests! wish I didn't live out of state! It's a staple diner in a small ski resort town, so yes, it's crowded. But things move very briskly so the wait is not really very long. The staff is super friendly and cheerful and they will warn you the owner "loves to feed people!". The specials menu is very exciting, with a surprising emphasis of vegetables (spinach, kale, squash, cauliflower and broccoli worked into almost every dish). The portions are very generous. The pasta dishes are around a pound of pasta each. The crab cake appetizer was 3 quarter pound cakes. You'll need to tell the staff NOT to pack up your leftovers if you don't want them. Otherwise they will automatically box them up and bring them back to you, along with a giant slab of cake that is on the house. And if you are too full to eat the cake, they will box that up for you too! It was a comfortable and fairly priced meal. read more

I think I've eaten at just about every Greek Diner on the Eastern seaboard. But I have to say none match Michael's Diner in Wyndham, New York. Not only are the staff the most pleasant, but when you tell them how you would like your meal made they make sure it comes out just the way you like it. Had my third Thanksgiving dinner today, here with my wife and with my family in the past. It's so good that I really want to give my wife and family a break and not let them cook dinner. I recently toured Greece and honestly tell you that the spanakopita and souvlaki are better at Michael's than in Athens or Salonika. Roast lamb or roast pork are always a treat. What a pleasant surprise! Visiting this small town on a holiday weekend. After the long drive here, I didn't feel like cooking. I spotted Michael's in town and thought I'd give it a shot, though I didn't have high hopes. The service was fantastic. Smiling, friendly waitress and fast service from the kitchen. The portions were huge! It would take me a week to finish my entree. I ordered a special - chicken bruschetta. Fabulous. I was surprised at the end if my meal with free dessert. It was a fresh baked pastry a la mode that I swore I had no room for...I ate every bite. When the bill came I was shocked by how inexpensive it was.
