Just got back from talking with Randy at Herndon Reston Transmission. After taking my 2005 Subaru…read moreForester to the nationally advertised transmission shop in Chantilly, I figured that I needed a second opinion. The nationally advertised transmission shop verified my fears that I needed a new transmission. They quoted a cost of $800 for the initial evaluation and then at least $2400-$2800, minimum, to repair the transmission. I have had 3 transmissions repaired at H R Transmission over the years and thought that they deserved consideration. Randy wanted me to leave the car; however, I told him that I was by myself for the day and would have to come back. He stopped what he was doing and offered to take me along on a test drive immediately. He drove the car for approximately 10 minutes and then informed me that the car had a performance problem - in other words, it needed a tune-up. I have made arrangements to take my Subaru back to H R Transmission to get it fixed. Randy offered me a comprehensive inspection of the car for $105 and would not then charge me for the tune-up. Once the car has been inspected (and tuned up) he will prioritize the repairs that are needed and we will proceed from there. I commented to Randy that the folks at the nationally advertised transmission shop treated me poorly and that I much appreciated the way he treated me. I've learned - or re-learned a couple of things today; always get a second opinion, and that my history at Herndon Reston Transmission should have told me something. Yep - Woohoo! As good as it gets. ...Jake Herndon, VA Follow up ... Randy and his crew finished up my Forester on Presidents' Day just in time for the snow storm that evening. I really wanted to have a good experience with Universally Modified…read more I appreciate They are a family run and worked business of brothers and Ryan's wife. But they will not properly torque fasteners. There had been a metallic rattling since the first time I had them install the front sway bar. I drove it that way for six months or so. They always said the reason for the metallic rattling was because of the BMR components I had them install not having the rubber bushings. Then when me and another guy put my 2022 Mach 1 up on a lift and started looking it over and working on it we were disappointed to find Universally Modified destroyed my front sway bar end links due to not torquing down fasteners and using zero thread locker! I asked them multiple times to use the proper thread locker on all the fasteners. So after fixing the sway bar properly, the car is silent now! Um multiple times have not torque down or at least used a thread locker to keep fasteners from totally backing off. Universally Modified also did not tell me about an exhaust leak we found. I have put a lot of thought for weeks into thinking about/processing the information to make sure I am doing the right thing. They also couldn't get my wheel weights to stay on my wheels. But the plus for them is they did suggest a good place to go and have my Wheels properly Road force balanced. Each time something was not done right I tried to be calm and decent about it when I communicated with them. when I told Universally Modified about each issue, they did not apologize and didn't say what can I do to make it right, didn't say it would not happen in the future, nothing. I feel unsafe using Universally Modified due to them, causing my car to lose control on the street or on the track, and kill or enter others and myself! They will not answer or return my phone calls I tried calling multiple times to communicate with universally Modified in order to speak with them and get their side/viewpoint before I posted this.

From the very start, I was greeted with a smile from Karen and felt very confident that I was in good hands with the repair. She took great pictures of the damages and made sure to listen to everything going on wiThe the car. I was given updates as to when the parts came in and when the car was finished and the repair BLEW ME AWAY! They did a fantastic job on EVERYTHING! The car looked as good as New and I was so happy with their work. Mike the owner was extremely knowledgeable and kind taking the time to show me the work they did making sure I was 100% satisfied. Just a heads up and watch item, with occasional suggestions about what to do, even including DIY options. More recently I had an adaptive headlight fail. Where the dealer would have wanted a full new OEM replacement at their labor rates, James and team took a lot of time and care to identify the root cause, isolated the issue, and found quality used parts to use and saved me thousands in the process. And they were giving almost daily updates on their progress and findings. Great group of folks. Sure, you can get some strong performance additions from the shop and no doubt they're great at it, but don't overlook them for fixes and other needs. You'd be selling you and your BMW short!
