The car I got back was a beast. What it should have been. Now I need to fi d a dyno shop so I can get it dialed in a bit, but I am a perfectionist. They worked with me abd got ecwrything done. I really wanted to have a good experience with Universally Modified. I appreciate They are a family run and worked business of brothers and Ryan's wife. But they will not properly torque fasteners. There had been a metallic rattling since the first time I had them install the front sway bar. I drove it that way for six months or so. They always said the reason for the metallic rattling was because of the BMR components I had them install not having the rubber bushings. Then when me and another guy put my 2022 Mach 1 up on a lift and started looking it over and working on it we were disappointed to find Universally Modified destroyed my front sway bar end links due to not torquing down fasteners and using zero thread locker! I asked them multiple times to use the proper thread locker on all the fasteners. So after fixing the sway bar properly, the car is silent now! Um multiple times have not torque down or at least used a thread locker to keep fasteners from totally backing off. Universally Modified also did not tell me about an exhaust leak we found. I have put a lot of thought for weeks into thinking about/processing the information to make sure I am doing the right thing. They also couldn't get my wheel weights to stay on my wheels. But the plus for them is they did suggest a good place to go and have my Wheels properly Road force balanced. Each time something was not done right I tried to be calm and decent about it when I communicated with them. when I told Universally Modified about each issue, they did not apologize and didn't say what can I do to make it right, didn't say it would not happen in the future, nothing. I feel unsafe using Universally Modified due to them, causing my car to lose control on the street or on the track, and kill or enter others and myself! They will not answer or return my phone calls I tried calling multiple times to communicate with universally Modified in order to speak with them and get their side/viewpoint before I posted this. read more

I brought my 1969 Mustang Mach 1 to UNIVERSALLY MODIFIED in Sterling Virginia. I own several classic vehicles; my previous mechanic no longer lives in the area. So I decided to give UNIVERSALLY MODIFIED a chance to service my vehicle and other(s) moving forward if this experience works out. It wasn't long to find that this shop is extremely overrated and overpriced and THEY CAN'T PROVIDE WHAT WAS PROMISSED! My issue on my 1969 Mustang was the vibration and hesitation on acceleration, I was estimated by Troy initially for $4952.62 of recommended services! I was shocked to see them write this estimate, and to SUM it all up, they wanted to put bigger holly carbs, new starter, and tune up the car. Put in mind that it's a pristine 1969 Mustang Mach 1 which is up for sale for $90K, by no means this car needed anything like this kind of service, I explained how we replaced the Harmonic Balancer and that that didn't change vibration and I left the old Balancer in the car for them to see. After we agreed on the services above, I was promised this vibration and hesitation was going to be eliminated. Upon pick up, the Mustang Road like garbage! I immediately contact Troy explain my concerns, after paying him $3486.23. Troy responded by saying "owe yea we put the old Harmonic Balancer back in the car and vibration a lot less now? He also after my distressed concerns, he actually said that the car "might need a new engine because if that the vibration can be something internal" I was outraged to hear any of this after the FACT! "This was NOT told to me prior pick up or paying for this outrageous invoice. I expected him to warrant his repairs and to correct his mistakes. So I left the vehicle with Troy again for the second time on 5/11/2022 at UNIVERSALLY MODIFIED in Sterling, Troy sent me message afterwards to tell me - HIS WORDS! Hey Sean this is Troy, We actually found the issue. After inspecting the flex plate (trans removal wasn't required), we found that the flex plate and harmonic balancer were actually the 28oz imbalance. Since they were indeed matched, we proceeded with removing the oil pan to look at the crankshaft and discovered that the crankshaft was indeed internally balance and shouldn't have those parts on them. We were able to remove the counter balance on the flex plate and we swapped the balancer with an internally balanced unit and the vibration is gone!!! I also have more great news on the engine internals that are definitely going to boost the price/salability! It's a fully forged bottom end, Ford Performance SVO Block and Hydraulic Roller Cam. That's some big money in the Small block ford world. The engine is probably around 15-18k new" - HIS WORDS! Nothing ever mentioned at one time that he was planning on charging you another $1654.10 to replace the Harmonic Balance AGAIN! $1200 of that was labor! It's a external part on the outside of the engine where pulleys are located! This was the final insult for me, He charged $38 for another oil filter, $20-$30 of gaskets for FORD MUSTANG?? Seriously!?? I pay $12 for PORSCHE high end oil filters, how does FORD cost more?? My conclusion is that this shop LOVES to Surcharge ever nickel and dime that they can from there clients! COMPLETE SCAMMERS! Thank you for reading this you have been warned to STAY FAR AWAY FROM UNIVERSALLY MODIFIED in Sterling VA. read more

I asked to put headers on my car. Not a tough job. I took a while to get the headers in. They stayed on it. Once they arrived, headers were installed expertly. Including the modification required. The whole team was great. Ryan is a very knowable young man. Showed me the entire processes from beginning to end. There prices are just at industry standard. I will return. Keep this place in mind when you need your car worked on. They are becoming rather popular. read more

I don't normally take the time out to write a review, but UM earned this one. I have know Troy and Ryan for many years, far before they began their shop. I have a number of very close friends that are all connected to the performance automotive industry and are well know in the Northern VA area so finding a reputable shop is seldom an issue. I wanted to give UM a try, test their abilities with this challenging job and they did exceedingly well!l. There are a few minor adjustments required which they are accommodating given the recent weather we have experienced. Both Troy and Ryan go above and beyond and I praise them for the work they have performed and their honesty. I will always recommend them for your automotive needs. read more

These guys are great. I recently became the owner of a 1967 Ford Mustang. It's a sweet ride but it was obvious that routine maintenance had been ignored. UM set expectations, gave me options and reasonable estimates. Very professional. read more

As I was pulling out of a gas station, my clutch decided to stick to the floor. Was able to limp it home and hit up some Mustang Facebook groups and was pointed in the direction of UM Performance. I had it towed on Wednesday and swung by to talk to the guys at the shop. They were very informative. It happened to be the clutch slave cylinder that went out. Since the location of the clutch slave cylinder is connected to the throw out bearing, they told me the clutch would probably need to be replaced as well because of contamination from the brake fluid that got on it. I told them to go ahead and replace that as well while they were in there since they already had to pull the transmission and I was at 82,000mi. Boy was I glad I did, because they were right, the clutch had some contamination on it, and it only had probably 2k miles left in it. I got it back around noon on Saturday. Not bad considering this COVID stuff is happening, delaying shipment on parts a little bit. I am super happy with the job they did and I have several projects with my Mustang coming up that I'll be going back for. Thanks again and look forward to using use guys again soon! read more

What you have here are competent mechanics who are straight shooters. Quality work for a fair and honest price. These attributes seem hard to come by these days. Got my '71 C-10 running in top condition; Addressed issues caused by other shop's low quality (yet expensive) work. I will be recommending UMP to everyone I know. read more

I did hours of homework for lowering springs and a reputable shop to do it for my 2020 Mustang GT. A few weeks later, I walked out with a giant grin on my face and not only the on point lowering of the car, but a Edelbrock supercharger, installed, buttoned up, and ready to rock and roll. Ryan, Troy and the entire team simply crushed the work I asked them to do for me. They listened to what I wanted and needed, asked a few pertinent questions, suggested what would be best for me and covered all the bases. On point, on time, service oriented, communicative, and incredibly detail oriented with their work. Often times I bring my cars in for service and they end up with fingerprints and hand smudges everywhere. Not at UMP...it was clean(er) as a whistle as if I had just obsessed over it myself. After the sale service is just as epic and excellent as before the sale. I can't say enough positive things about the whole team. Rockstars and amazing in everything they do! read more

I took in a project 1971 K5 Blazer that needed a lot of work from bumper to bumper. Troy, Ryan, and the crew did everything I asked and then some. They undertook a two month project without hesitation. They called me many times along the way to discuss options and made suggestions which far exceeded my expectations and saved me money. Got lowering springs put on my car by the guys at UM Performance and what a difference in handling! Along with some other stuff done to my car, they got it all done quickly but efficiently and the crew is really down to earth. They won't jip you on your money and provide excellent advice for modifications that work and won't work for your specific car. This is definitely my new shop for anything auto related. I'll be back! read more
